UK TV fastracks Torchwood

The UK TV channel will screen the third series of Torchwood "Children of Earth" in June hot off the satellite.

torchwood_childrenofearthAustralia, get excited. The UK TV channel has confirmed to TV Tonight it will screen the third series of Torchwood “Children of Earth” in June.

The series will be fastracked by the channel after its UK premiere.

The 5 part series will air in the UK across five consecutive nights, as it will in Australia via UK TV.

UK TV will also simulcast the series in Australia on BBC HD.

1965: Twelve children are gathered together on a deserted moorland, before being surrounded by a harsh, bright light, and then they are gone!

Today: All over planet Earth, children stop moving. Stop playing. Stop laughing. Stop everything. Then, as one, they begin to speak with the same voice, announcing to the governments of the world the imminent arrival of a new alien threat. ‘We Are Coming, We Are Coming’.

As the British Government closes ranks, it issues a death warrant against Captain Jack and Torchwood. Now forced to flee for their lives, it becomes clear to the Torchwood team that this isn’t the aliens’ first visit to Earth, and a terrible price is going to be paid for sins of the past…

ABC has re-run rights to Torchwood which it will air mid year. Series two is currently screening on UK TV.

TV Tonight will keep you posted on an airdate…..

  1. All I can say about Torchwood Season 3 coming to Tv (I din’t care whether it is free to air of subscription)- it’s about bloody time. As a Doctor Who fan of way back (to when it first started), I have payed close attention to Torchwood- nearly as good the Doctor. I am looking forward to seeing what happened to the Torchwood gang after the Season 2 finale and also the events of Doctor Who Season 4. Cheers All

  2. So does this mean BBC HD will play Season 2 of Torchwood first? They have only played Season 1 so far.

To all the people whinging that it’s on Foxtel, get over yourselves. ABC didn’t want it, Ten chucked it out, so suck it up 🙂

  3. @Tish. Really? There are 14 people who subscribe to UKTV eh? Never have I read so much BS in my life than the statement you just made. Sounds like a case of sour grapes, because you and a few other people who have posted in this thread are pissed off that this show is not on FTA and that, it should be.

Have you and the other non-foxtel subscribers thought that, 1) That FTA don’t want to show these type of programs even on their HD channels.
2)That Foxtel has every right to pick up the rights for this show as well as Sarah Connor Chronicles, Pushing Daisies,Battlestar Galactica(last 1/2 of season 4 in particular) Damages season 2, etc etc.
If the FTA channels are not going to air them, then Foxtel has every right to grab the rights, and try and attract new customers, they are not going to attract new customers on old, repeats, sports and music channels, they have to have some kind of product to advertise or promote, like season 3 of Torchwood, like True Blood(Showcase).

  4. I think this is a positive step.

Although in a perfect world it would be fast tracked to free-to-air, the nature of Science Fiction TV in Australia is that it is continually relegated to graveyard (or completely ignored) on free-to-air TV.

Pay TV at least recongises Sci Fi fans as being worthy of fast tracked programs. Years of neglect by free-to-air means it’s up to pay TV to satisfy rabid sci fi tv fans.

  5. How long before we see Series 3 released on DVD ? , may i ask how long did Series 1 & 2 take to be released on DVD ? , Thankyou David and everyone ! , Oh ! and also what is the latest news if there will be anything of Torchwood after Series 3 ? , repeats , spinoff’s….etc , Cheers everyone !

  6. So they are fast tracking but when and how fast?

I wish ABC (or ABC2) had the rights to TW but at least it will be shown here.

Any news on with the DW Easter special will air here David?

  7. Yep! Off to the internet for the rest of us who refuse to be forced into paying excessive fees to Foxtel to see what should be Free-To-Air!!!

The next Docotr Who special, Planet Of The Dead
… will air in the UK on 11April!

    Jack!

  8. It’s getting so that unless you have payTV you miss out on many of the good US and UK shows. And once again the regionals miss out on HD as Austar in its wisdom doesn’t provide it.

Yet again, people will turn to the internet.
