Boxing’s Empire coming to ONE

ONE is planning a new live boxing show to air against The Footy Show.

punchA new live boxing show will launch on ONE HD from July going head to head with Nine’s Footy Show.

To be known as Empire Fight Night it will broadcast from a 3000 seat Port Melbourne warehouse. The first show, set for July 16, is expected to feature Sydney-based super middleweight Sakio “The Scorpion” Bika in a world title fight.

And on the same card will be Melbourne’s light heavyweight “Tiger” Tim Bell against a world top 10-rated opponent, putting Bell into a position to fight Danny Green.

It’s been a long time since commercial television had a boxing show, with Seven’s TV Ringside enjoying a long run from the 1960s – 1980s.

Sydney will also host nights, with Fidel Tukel acting as match-maker while the Melbourne nights will be shared between Brian Amatruda and David Deicke.
