Former ABC News Qld chief of staff for 32 years has died.

asburyFormer ABC News journalist and Queensland chief of staff Albert Asbury has died in Brisbane at the age of 69.

Asbury worked for the ABC for 50 years and guided the daily television news coverage as chief of staff in Brisbane for more than 30 years.

Asbury joined ABC’s Townsville newsroom in 1958. He went to Papua New Guinea in 1969 as the ABC’s political correspondent and became the first news editor of the newly-established National Broadcasting Commission of PNG.

In 1976, Mr Asbury became the ABC’s Queensland TV News chief of staff, until his retirement in early 2008.

He is survived by his wife Lyn and three children.
