Bumped: Bones, Castle

By David Knox on June 26, 2009 / Filed Under Programming 25

bones2You can blame Dancing with the Stars for this one.

Seven’s return of its variety show will stretch from 6:30 – 9pm on Sunday July 5th, a whopping 2.5 hrs of sambas and sequins.

As a result Bones is pushed back to 9pm, followed by Castle at 10pm.

Seven deletes Border Patrol at 10:30pm but ensures 24 stays put at 11pm.

Traditionally as Dancing begins to lose contestants the show starts to trim its length, but that is likely to take at least 2-3 weeks.

    This is Mindless Tripe.

So You Think You Can Dance is the only one of these shows One can watch without falling asleep.

Even Putting Family Guy and the Cleveland Show on would be a huge improvement

can someone at channel 7 please send a wake up call to who ever does the QLD EPG, it is not showing this change, even though the EPG for next sunday was only loaded today and this was posted by david 2 days ago. the EPG also still shows how i met your mother and scrubs on tomorrow despite 7 putting on the michael jackson special instead.

thanks David, I’m an idiot. I look forward to the “very special time” promotions after all.

Not a fan of Bones being pushed back, though I’m sure it will go back to 8.30 from the following week and for the rest of it’s run.

Could be a big rating night for Seven too, atleast in the AFL states with the top of the ladder Geelong v St. Kilda game leading into 7 News.

    @tepee

the first few episodes have always run for about 2.5 hours even though they were scheduled for 2 hours. and this year there are 11 dancers so i don’t think the format will have changed or had anything added. it looks like they’ve just accepted defeat that they cannot fit the show into 2 hours.

the US version runs 2.5-3 hours even with a separate elimination show and that is one of the top shows in america.

People are underestimating DWTS. Sure 2.5 hours is overkill even i think that but it is a great show. This is something i feared would happen when it was announced DWTS would affect Bones and it has. It should be Wednesday night not Sunday night. But it was the #1 show on TV until the move last year. I am looking forward to it. I can tape MC so its no big deal to me.

I do wonder what they’re going to do with 2.5 hours… Heaps of pre-recorded clips showing the couples practising? Making a brouhaha about the blind contestant? More Daniel MacPherson having no idea what to do with his hands? Probably.

Way too long for any show. Huge viewer commitment needed. Don’t understand why it has to be that long. I don’t think it will hold audience too well over the full 2.5 hours.

Then there is the issue that 9pm could become 9.10 or 9.15 and so on. Unless 7 finish on time, Bones and Castle will suffer. Rove will benefit.

Well, I think thats a bit crap. I was just starting to like Bones. Instead I like other murder drama fans will probably switch to CSI or Miss Marple and then stay there because once you see the first 30 mins you need to find out who dunnit! lol

    Mandy it’s July 5.

I used to like DWTS, so over it now. And Sunday night I’d rather watch Merlin and MasterChef.

  12. RichoTB June 26, 2009 at 11:42 pm -

I can say that this crap will probably rate well against Nine’s Sunday night movies. Masterchef will beat it but that will only last around another 3 weeks, then its done until Celebrity Masterchef later in the year. I expect figures of around 1.2 million, hopefully less.

Oh really? So why did I just see an ad during the football saying that Bones will be on at 8.30 on Sunday?

Damn sneakiness, thanks for the heads-up David because evidently Seven won’t be coming clean to the hapless general public. (Whatever happened to “at the very special time of 9pm…”???)

i don’t like this. 2 hours is plenty

Dancing with the stars is one of the most crap shows ever, come on seven, get over it

I hate DWS. Last couple of years it was All Saints that got bumped to a later slot, now Bones. I love Bones, oh well its back to Rove while this tripe is on.

  17. philm June 26, 2009 at 6:29 pm -

While I dont like it this is possibly a smart move. People watch at 6:30, switch to MasterChef at 7:30 and should come back for the last half an hour. Could be a awya to reach as many people as possible so when MasterChef finishes they have every possible audience.

Is that clutching at straws??? I think so!

  18. Harry June 26, 2009 at 4:57 pm -

2.5 hours is over kill. In that space of time TEN has 3 shows.

  19. George June 26, 2009 at 4:51 pm -

I personally would have had put Dancing With the Stars on a different night this year as it didn’t go too well against Idol last year.. Whatever floats your boat I guess Seven. MasterChef is going to completely KILL Dancing With the Stars.

  20. John June 26, 2009 at 4:11 pm -

That’s ok. I was coming in here expecting it to say 24 was pushed to 11.30 but to see it stay at 11 is good.

  21. Jed June 26, 2009 at 3:57 pm -

F#@*. Not happy. I don’t watch that crap dancing show anymore. No one does, give it up already. You have quality programs in Bones & Castle, the latter my fave new show. Why mess up two great shows that rate well for a show that is on the decline?

  22. DAN June 26, 2009 at 3:39 pm -

Lets hope dancing with the Z graders comes 5th behind nine ten ABC and sbs

  23. Jerome June 26, 2009 at 3:38 pm -

i was curious about this, there was no way they were going to fit the first episode into 2 hours.

  24. David @ Green Point June 26, 2009 at 3:31 pm -

I hope they don’t bump 24 – must be just about the final episode of the current series.

  25. DansDans June 26, 2009 at 3:27 pm -

What a joke. 2.5 hours for this tripe? I hope you get slaughtered by Masterchef
