Gallery: THIS afternoon

It has the coffee mugs, the open neck shirt, the newsreader at the desk joining in the chats, the email and SMS input...it's brekkie in the arvo.

Nine’s new arvo offering THIS afternoon kicks off with banter about spelling, celebrity gossip and updates on the death of Michael Jackson.

Just make sure you know you haven’t woken up and find you’re watching brekkie telly…

This post updates.

  1. 7 had a gig like this at 5pm a while back i’m sure, and it bombed and I remember the hosts blaming their deep sunken chairs for their lack of chemistry/uncomfortability. Cant remember it’s name but.

  2. It pains me to say it, but I didnt mind it, I didnt want to like it, but something about Mark Ferguson in an open next shirt just got me going…….

  3. It’s okay, but not that great. Only Mark was a decent host.

The set is digusting, and the graphics are even worse.

They should have just saved some money and used the Today Show set – it’s way bigger and better.

  4. THIS afternoon really did have a breakfast tv feel, full of the fluffy moments and home viewer competition gimmicks that plague today/sunrise. Should be interesting to see how it goes over the next few weeks, though I don’t think i’ll tune in again.

  5. too many water mark, they’re turning into today tonight or sunday night.
I think as a whole, the show wasn’t horrible, and, I don’t think it should be judged by one episode-i’ll see how it goes.

  6. yeh lets drop it and put more ppl out of work. Dont like dont watch it…simple. i would like to know how many people actually work in the industry that ciontibute here? iam one… who else is

  7. Well it was rather painful, I hope that they dump it. Or atleast WIN have the sense to get rid of it in WA and give us back something thats slightly more entertaining. I never used to mind if I caught 7 or 9’s 4:30 news, but I can safely say i’ll be reaching for that remote very safely to switch to 7 from now on!

  8. I am also another Brisbane viewer who was shocked with the axing of Extra and more shocked to see something as worse as this in its place. It was a very bad mistake on Channel Nine’s part and I hope this mistake turns up in the ratings tomorrow night, especially the Brisbane figures.

  9. And if I hear or see Bruno one more time on another “current affairs” show I will spew. Enough free publicity for his movie already. I agree Kuttyswood. To axe a top-rating local progam for an hour of Sunrise/The Morning Show networked from Sydney is pathetic. Andrew Daddo really looked like he wanted to be somewhere else.

  10. It’s like someone’s thrown up a mouth full of orange juice. They must have got in the same guy who did up the “Frontline” set in the mid 90’s.

Give it a month. Antique Roadshow to return….

  11. Kenny, I can cut the trash, as I am a Queenslander, and am still angry at the Extra axing.

It took one look, “Stupid networked program.” That’s when I left it for Ten News… right at 4:30, no chit chat.

At least Ten News in Brisbane has improved, Set’s still outdated though.

Even Bold and the Beautiful is better than both 7’s 4:30 news and This Afternoon.

  12. This afternoon will not last long – how the Nine network could have scrapped Extra in Brisbane for this is astounding. A breakfast style program at sunset will not work – quite boring and hosts were very dry especially a lost Daddo. I hope Nine has some contingency plan – because the network will need one. At least in Brisbane, they could sweet talk Rick Burnett to return and bring something interesting back to Queensland screens and restore ratings in the lead up to QTQ’s news.

  13. Not a fan of the colours – very much like The Morning Show, which I have also never liked!
I was hoping the set would be a bit warmer and organic, it is far too sterile and newsy, which doesn’t match Daddo’s cheery banter at all.

  14. they axed a news bulletin for this and expect this decision to improve their news brand. not much different to axing Sunday for weekend today.

anyway final judgement: the graphics are nice, katrina looks like a nice person, but there are soo many awkward moments and little chemistry yet, andrew daddo is struggling a lot. What was the “new”, “innovative”, “news program with a difference” part. this is just a morning show in the afternoon only less entertaining.

the format needs a large retuning it is very clunky. it keeps going from a fluff piece directly into an attempt at a serious bit then another fluff bit.

  15. From these pics it looks as though Andrew Daddo’s decided to help with the brekkie telly analogy – he looks like he just woke up after a heavy night. Smarten yourself up man.

  16. Like I said last week, it should be called SUNset. Even the same colours as sunrise – orage & yellow. Old news (HK taxi crash other stations ran last night, Rudd/Turnbull polls and an interview with the same guy re MJ that was run this morning), a piece on spelling, edited to only include people who can’t spell, and a waffle about Britney Spears. That’s where I left it for TEN News.

  17. “Just make sure you know you haven’t woken up and find you’re watching brekkie telly…”

My thoughts exactly. It’s Sunrise at Sunset. I watched about 5 minutes of it and decided to give it a miss.
