Is this the most popular TV studio in the country?

atpOn Sunday night Nine’s new Random Acts of Kindness opened with host Karl Stefanovic dwarfed by giant screens and towering cast-iron columns that are fast becoming recognisable to viewers around the nation.

The Exhibition Hall of Australian Technology Park has now featured on several prominent shows on a number of networks.

With its arched windows and rustic brickwork it certainly makes for a dramatic setting. Sandwiched in Eveleigh between the University of Sydney and Redfern, Eveleigh Railway Yard is the centrepiece of Australian Technology Park, once the location of Australia’s largest industrial complex.

mcaatpAustralian Idol has used ATP for its auditions for the last four years. MasterChef Australia held its Top 50 trials here in February.

tgaatpTop Gear Australia on SBS has used it for publicity photos and to film one car trial.

antmelimAustralia’s Next Top Model has also filmed here.

In 2010 ATP will complete a 12 storey, state-of-the-art media facility with offices and studios for the Seven Network, Pacific Magazines and Global Television.

I remember when Nine introduced the new logo (number 9 in a blue box) back in like 2007 they used this place as well for their promos. It is a beautiful building though, it looks really good on TV as well. Interesting to see Random Acts being filmed here. The place was completely empty except for the plasmas and Karl.

Will Seven News/Current Affairs be moving to Redfern as well, or will they be staying at Martin Place? They’ve been moving away from actually using Martin Place as a backdrop for the last several years, so you’d think that maintaining a separate building in the CBD would be more trouble than it’s worth now that they’ve got a brand-new dedicated building elsewhere.

So that’s what that building is for that’s being constructed I can see from the train.

Is it also used for the judges verdicts and elimination in HomeMade?

Hahah .. I pointed this out to my wife at the start of MasterChef.

Of course, there are more popular studios around, but none as distinctive!

I think the MTV awards a few years back used the same hall too.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia was filmed at Carriageworks, inside the Eveleigh Railway Yard (the railway tracks are shown in occasional clips). And I think the weekly challenges and eliminations of Masterchef Australia are taped at ATP as well.
