Nation of sport and cooking lovers

soo1Wednesday night proved to be a big night of viewing around the country.

The second State of Origin managed a powerful 2.09m viewers, taking 800,000 in both Sydney and Brisbane and driving Nine to a big weeknight share. It peaked at 2.54 million.

But Masterchef Australia’s extended 90 minutes in Hong Kong didn’t let up, with another 1.85m. Against the draw of NRL it was a huge figure. Not surprisingly Melbourne was strongest with 675,000 viewers.

The evening also marked the return of The Chaser’s War on Everything with a confident 1.16m viewers, only dented by the draw of Nine sport. The fact it retained its audience out of Spicks and Specks suggests it was able to ride out controversy.

Seven meanwhile played strategically, by splitting some of its shows in ‘NRL States.’ Thank God You’re Here plays in Sydney and Brissy tonight.

Nine won the night with a 32.1% share.

In Sydney, a L&O:CI repeat was shown at 8:30 followed by a L&O:SVU repeat at 9:30.

@ Brendan Wood. The Origin game last night was played at 7.30pm in all states.

The Daily Telgraph have no clue if they claim it was aired around midnight.

calm down Matt…same is said re AFL…its a pointless argument which facts and figures are thrown up from both sides…. who cares they are both great sports…and the nation loves sport so let it go

Matt, the reason for the low audience figure for the State Of Origin in Adelaide and Perth is because Channel Nine broadcast the game around midnight. The Daily Telegraph dedicated a whole page to the subject yesterday.

Nine were smashed in Adelaide and Perth though, pretty hard to make an argument that the whole ‘nation’ loves rugby league.

At 8.30, the game has barely started. NRL moves so slow, you don’t miss anything at the start, so no reason not to watch Masterchef – which is 1000 times more interesting then NRL in any case.
