One of the ABC’s more popular UK shows returns with new episodes this month.
Grand Designs, presented by Kevin McCloud, will return 8:30pm Tuesday, 23rd June.
In the first episode of series seven we’ll meet Ian and Sophie Cooper, a London couple who are passionate about design and who plan to restore a 200-year-old Grade 2 (UK) listed industrial building in an area of outstanding beauty.
The ‘Apprentice Store’ in Somerset, near Bath, has been derelict for over 25 years, its only inhabitants being a colony of bats. Before Ian and Sophie began the restoration process of the building, they first had to build a new ‘bat cave’ to re-house the protected mammals.
Ian and Sophie not only plan to restore the old building, but add a large glass extension, creating a cool modern interior to make the most of the incredible views.
However, they discover this wreck of a building has no foundations and sits on unstable ground. The only way to prevent their dream home from sliding down the hill is by stabilising it with a mammoth piling system – a complex engineering job.

We missed the new Grand Designs this evening. Can I watch it on my mac computer.
Yes on iView, probably from tomorrow.
Great show, and I’m not usually into these kinds of programs.
I’m also really excited to hear this. From my understanding, the ‘Aussie version’ will not be so much an Aussie adaptation, but the same host coming and visiting Australian locations. I can’t see how that would be cause for failure.
fantastic! – thanks for the heads up!
Series 7? These are from 2007 arent they? Im sure ive seen some shows from series 8 (i.e ‘The Modernist Sugar Cube’ and ‘The Lime Kiln House’ on ABC last time around.
@chrissyboy Yes, this season has aired (or is still airing?) on Lifestyle.
@Mark An Aussie show is in the making already, sorry.
It’s a very interesting show with a classy, knowledgeable host. And a show that would fail miserably if ever made into an Aussie version.
Excellent!
Is this the season that has just aired on Lifestyle? I noticed the last lot of episodes had houses finishing in February 2009!
Fantastic. I can never understand why but I love this show and it’s quietly passionate host.
