    @Jason

Dave Callan, still gets a laugh from me when he brings up the ‘I get mistaken for the Paddle Pop Lion’ joke

  2. Neon Kitten June 12, 2009 at 11:43 am -

Jason, you mean Dave Callan. At times a regular sight around Melbourne’s more interesting bars and clubs :)

From what I have been told, him leaving “Rove” was his own decision.

He works for Triple J now.

Hrm this is starting to look like a show you might see on Fox News called Red Eye.

  4. Captain Awesome June 11, 2009 at 10:06 pm -

Hughesy is great!! But not TV material for 7pm.

    Ruby Rose gets my vote.

  5. ryan June 11, 2009 at 9:03 pm -

probably correct cause no reason why dave hughes wasnt on rove on sunday

  6. Jason June 11, 2009 at 8:19 pm -

How about Rove rehiring that dude from his channel nine season – can’t think of his name – the irish dude with the wooly beard – he was hilarious! Then they moved to ten and lost him and he was the best one

  7. Scott June 11, 2009 at 7:47 pm -

    Ruby Rose is 100%.

  8. Tepee June 11, 2009 at 6:11 pm -

Charlie Pickering is the best regular on T”BYG, so thumbs up for him. I don’t mind Carrie, same goes for Hughesy but his “oiiimm angry!” – LOL good one Neon Kitten – routine does get a little tiresome. I wouldn’t mind Ruby Rose either – not often you get a fresh face on free-to-air. But there are still question marks over the exact format of the show… I wonder what they’d all be doing?

  9. Alts June 11, 2009 at 5:59 pm -

hmmm.. hughsey can be pretty flexible, his breakfast show is not all angry, just the 30 seconds where he ‘loses it’
carrie B makes sense, she is on the pay roll, familiar with viewers and not offensive, but yeh she’s a little bit weird
Corrinne is a silly idea, she is not very funny and way to political for 7pm on ten, (she is based in melbourne also though)
and charlie p. is good form, maybe add Celia Pacquola also or even myf warhurst?

  10. Goonies June 11, 2009 at 4:21 pm -

@ John – you are my hero. So sick of people thinking Carrie is some sort of comic genius – she should not even be on tv let alone given her own hosting gig. If I watch Rove, I mute the tv when she comes on.

As for Ruby ‘I’m a lesbian’ Rose another giant MEH.

I’ll go with Charlie from that list.

  11. gregmeister June 11, 2009 at 4:15 pm -

    Charlie Pickering is not bad.

If there’s going to be a female in the mix have Rebel Wilson…Bickmore is just a newsreader, seriously.

  12. John June 11, 2009 at 3:52 pm -

Carrie Bickmore is garbage. She doesn’t have a comedic bone in her body.

Over time her comedic timing has improved but she still can’t deliver a great line to save her life no matter how strong the material (she doesn’t write) is.

How about this Roving Enterprises, I’ll barter with you.

Slot Carrie into this 7pm program destined for failure and rehire Corrine Grant.

Remember the Corrine, Peter and Rove days? Back when the show was actually funny?

“Would you like some parmy on that love? Keith! Parmy!”

We all know what happened. It was when Rove aired Tuesdays and The Glass House Wednesdays (or was it Fridays? Either way Corrine left Rove because she was based in Sydney where she filmed the glass house but worked on Rove in Melbourne (or is it the reverse?). To stop herself from having to make the trips back and forth so frequently she chose The Glass House over Rove which can’t be held against her as The Glass House was filmed where she was based.

Fast forward 12 months and the ABC relatively motiveless cancels The Glass House and Corrine is left without a job.

Rove do yourself a favour and get back Corrine she’s the comedy injection the show needs… not feeding lines to an unfunny and extremely unclever journalist who *always* manages to say something incredibly awkward or insulting when major guests are on (see Anne Hathaway, dozens more).

Carrie at the News Desk is the best bit about watching Rove and often we’ll tape Rove and that’s the only bit we watch! Her comic timing is excellent!!!

  14. wamdue June 11, 2009 at 3:11 pm -

its “The One Show” isnt it?

  15. Belinda June 11, 2009 at 1:43 pm -

When Hughsey is not doing his “oimmm angry” shtick, he can be witty and clever. But Carrie Bickmore has the worst comic timing I have ever seen. Charlie Pickering is good, but not really a drawcard. It seems like a very Melbourne centric line up, so it might be a turn off for Sydney viewers, and maybe Brisbane too.

  16. Harry June 11, 2009 at 1:38 pm -

I like Ruby Rose, shes cool. I dont like Charlie Pickering.. the others are ok.

  17. Josh June 11, 2009 at 12:58 pm -

Why are people so down on Hughesy? He is wickedly clever. His writes the best jokes around. And he is a nice, hardworking guy.

  18. TrojanTroy June 11, 2009 at 11:33 am -

Big thumbs up to Pickering! He has shown an awesome knowledge of pop culture and current events on TBYG so bring him on board without a doubt!
A big ‘meh’ to Bickmore. I’ll be excited to see her spread her wings sans Rove but she seems a big fluffy and soft for me.
And a big thumbs down to Hughsey! How the hell does he fit into that picture? His inclusion confuses and frightens me about what the product will be.
Lol @Neon Kitten for the “oiimm angry!” line. That’s killer.

  19. Ryan June 11, 2009 at 10:38 am -

I’d watch Ruby Rose….she’s very nice to look at haha. Neon Kitten Agree completely about Dave Hughes one joke that has carried him all these years, his bogan accent really frustrates me.

  20. cronker June 11, 2009 at 10:29 am -

    Hughesy? Please no.
He has one shtick – whining. (Funny, I thought Judith Lucy had the market cornered.)

Carrie Bickmore has excellent comedic timing and is a real television talent, so yes to her.
Charlie Pickering is going OK, probably needs more telly time to sharpen his presentation, so yes to him too.

But the real personality they should consider would be Shaun Micallef. If they are looking toward a “Daily Show” type of format, he would be perfect for it.

  21. T-Mac June 11, 2009 at 10:12 am -

Today’s Herald-Sun reported that Ruby Rose is close to a deal with Ten. Could she be another contender?

  22. tomothy June 11, 2009 at 9:33 am -

    No to all. Please no.

  23. Nathan June 11, 2009 at 9:09 am -

    oh f*** no!!

  24. RichoTB June 11, 2009 at 9:07 am -

I really like Dave Hughes, Carrie Bickmore is awesome. This show sounds quite invigorating, here’s hoping its similar to The Daily Show.

  25. trent June 11, 2009 at 9:04 am -

what about josh lawson, he is a bit of a laugh.

  26. john June 11, 2009 at 8:53 am -

delete no.1 and i might watch.

  27. Tony H. June 11, 2009 at 8:49 am -

It’ll only last a week with this sorry lot.

  28. Marco June 11, 2009 at 8:23 am -

God no. Doesn’t Dave Hughes have enough work?

  29. mikey June 11, 2009 at 7:59 am -

Bottom of the barrel selection if you ask me… No thanks!

  30. Ryan June 11, 2009 at 7:26 am -

I love Carrie Bickmore. I’d watch her every night. Though Dave Hughes just drives me freaking mental. I hadn’t heard of Charlie before TGYH, he’s ok. I prefer Josh Thomas though.

  31. Neon Kitten June 11, 2009 at 6:02 am -

    Pickering? Absolutely?

    Bickmore? Yeah, okay.

Hughesy? Oh hell no. The man has one joke (“oiiimm angry!”) and he’s been living off it for too many years now.
