Something tells me that when Working Dog were pursuing a “new” audience when they moved to Seven they did not envision an older and significantly smaller ausience. Serves them right for being so greedy with money – those ratings are a far cry from the glory days of 1.7+ mill on TEN.
Interesting to see MasterChef continuing to dominate all week. TEN would be ecstatic with their performance this year, you only have to look at their ratings this time last year to comprehend their success: last year in Week 25 they came fourth on Sunday, fourth on Monday, second on Tuesday, and fourth on Wednesday. What a difference a year can make.
As for Nine, what can you say? Double RPA did not set the world on fire ratings-wise, Cold Case(s) tanked just like their entire Tuesday line-up.
I’ll repeat what I said earlier, Ten has to make Master Chef eps all 1 hour, 7.30-8.30 next season (or the coming Celeb MC) after the ’7pm Project’. None of these half hour episodes…The kids at media spy reckon that last night “Master Chef did over 2 million viewers from 7.30pm-8.30pm opposite TGYH”
7pm start is slightly too early for the show, it seems like audiences really get going after 7.30
I reckon Ten could be pulling 1.8mill+ for masterchef 4-5 nights a week, every week of the season, if each ep ran an hour 7.30-8.30
Imagine last night if Ten had a well over 2 million for MC hour and was able to put on a decent (Aussie?) drama 8.30 to keep the majority of viewers in…1.4-1.6 million at 8.30 last night would have seen ten staring down the barrel of a solid weekly win, now it might have to settle for 2nd place….or can the AFL kick a Saturday goal to seal the winner?
And those figures just prove how stupid Nine is for axing Extra. Look at that. 60000 over DOND. Extra is not the problem. Nine News is. Cut the crap and Nine is on a huge winner. Do not cut extra.
wow masterchef is just insane right now
Its a shame SVU didn’t do higher last night, I watched both episodes and they were compelling storylines. Losing over half of the uber Masterchef lead-in is quite poor, although the repeat did win the 9.30 timeslot over Earl/HIMYM and Cold Case. Also, great retention from My Name Is Earl through to American Dad over the course of 2 hours.
I watched TGYH last night for the first time in years and I reckon the problem is its very hit or miss with its comedy. Some sketches were great (Arj Barker as a spiritual leader, that slightly large British woman in the daytime soap opera) but others completely missed the mark (that Ronny Johns chick was not funny at all, and the wedding skit was terrible). I only caught MasterChef between the ad breaks but what I saw I enjoyed, it seemed to be a refreshing take on the reality genre free of the usual bitchiness e.g. Big Brother, HomeMade.
Ten to win Saturday, I don’t think so. Futurama, The Simpsons, AFL and a repeat of Monday’s GNW. All you southerners may tune into that seagull feeding nonsense, but Sydney and Brisbane refuse to have a bar of it. Nevertheless, 10 should finish a close second to 7.
167,000 for prison break is very respectable considering how there was zero promotion and a time change
I was watching earl last night. they said coming up tonight they stopped at american dad. So i think the only promotion was during american dad and that was only coming up next
matt
OMG at MasterChef! Australia just cant get enough! But it shows the weakness of the rest of the nights line-up, with tens number 2 show of the night (ten news at five) coming 12! I dont think it’ll be enough to help them win number 1 of the week, but they could come in second. I think its been close between ten and nine a few times for second spot. Only 1 or 2 percent difference. Great numbers for Criminal Minds also; LOL at cold case! Nine bombed last night! TGYH didnt do too bad in bris, less then 20k behind MC. Prison Break did quite well considering its 11.30pm start, with no prior warning! Id still say seven will win the week, only due to their friday night mega wins, lol
The 1.291 million for Thank God You’re Here is the lowest audience ever for a first-run episode in the series’ history. Working Dog and Channel Seven will be disappointed with the figures, particularly given last night’s episode is one of the funniest in the current season. I reckon Seven may schedule an “encore” for the end of the week, but you can also watch the clips at Seven’s website.
Wow – looks like ~$300k TGYH watchers stuck around for the extra 30 mins of MasterChef. Also provided a better lead in for SVU. Quite the turnaround for TEN from last week (22.8 to 28.3).
lol. sucked in 7! and sucked in tgyh
I doubt TEN will win the week but I hope they take out 2nd, it’s been a strong week.
Masterchef just gets stronger and stronger – shows how poorly neighbours is doing if it can’t grow as the lead in to such a strong performer.
Jeepers, TGYH took a huge hit from MasterChef. TGYH is no longer the ratings juggernaut it once was, but it’s down 300,000 from what it’s been getting this year, which is pretty bad.
@ George, I could not see it there to download. Saw other shows there like Masterchef, Bold and Beautiful, Biggest Loser even, but no Talkin’ ‘Bout yr Gen for downloading.
The Oztam progressive figures for Sunday-Wednesday are ABC 15.7%, Seven 26.7%, Nine 24.4%, Ten 28.4%, SBS 4.7%. Ten should beat Nine for the week, and depending on Saturday, may even win the week.
Masterchef did over 2 million viewers from 7.30pm-8.30pm opposite TGYH. Working Dog must be wondering how it all went so wrong. The controversial move to Seven to expose their show to a “larger” audience has backfired on them big time. Last night would have to be one of the lowest audiences TGYH has ever had! Ironically, if they had stayed at Ten, TGYH probably would have been doing over 2 million with Masterchef as a lead-in, and Ten could have been winning weeks in total people.
Masterchef done some considerable damage to TGYH. That huge lead in was wasted on SVU though, despite building to reasonable figures versus previous weeks. Big result for Criminal Minds last night, excellent episode too. Cold Case bombs with the earlier timeslot.
Ten will definitely take second this week. They won’t win because they’ll get smashed by Seven on Friday but will also clean up in all the key demos easily. Masterchef hurt TGYH’s figures severely.
Don’t get to excited guys.Remember we are only half way through the week.Channel 10 could still finish 3rd overall.Channel 10 is doing well and good on them.Rove has picked up in the ratings again, which is good to see,but Ryan Shelton he is a total different story, why he is still on TV i will never know. Those other two guys that are like his working apprentices that plug the website are also very ordinary.Get rid of those three Rove(p.s no i’m not talking about Hamish and Andy)lol
Wow TEN are on a miracle run right now! Their current share is 28.47% over Seven’s 26.07% and Nine’s miserable 24.93%. with the strength of MasterChef and Saturday AFL TEN should come second or first this week. However, I doubt their Thursday and Friday performance (Wednesday should be OK for them with the wedding challenge which was fantastic).
Good pickup from Seven considering their lousy Sunday and Monday. Nine completely tanked last night!
I wonder how TGYH went in competition with MasterChef considering they were both on air for the entire timeslot TGYH populates.. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
Also, Andrew B, you can watch Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation on TEN’s website if you missed it.
I’m not sure what maths you’re using ryan but Ten only lead Nine by 3.5% after Tuesday and only lead Seven by 2.4% if my maths is correct.
Its unlikely Ten will win the week, their Wed-Fri lineup is far too poor, which is a shame as they are actually real contenders at the moment. Mostly due to the fact viewers are sick of Law and Order and SYTYCD US isn’t as popular as it used to be.
Go 10!!!! Great to see that youre goin so well … although im not so sure itll last for the rest of the week. And a preety bad night for 7, coming third or lower for all the demos the whole night
I can’t tell you how much I love the fact TEN has won the last 3 nights, I know it’s still unlikely they will win the week but it shows how easy things can change.
Well Done TEN on winning a 4th consecutive night, 3rd this week. NCIS was fantastic. TBYG is unstoppable.
How and why is Home Flop still on?
Why don’t 10 have Talking Bout Your Gen as catch up TV to download. Missed it last night due to day confusion due to working to much…!
lol, nine got smashed last night! ten beat them by over 8 percent. ten now lead nine by 10.6 percent and 7 by 6.2 percent. now lets watch them fall on their faces lol.
Interesting that last weeks 8.30 NCIS repeat, rated higher than the new episode this week. Scheduling all these repeats in the short term will bring Ten bumper ratings, but I wouldn’t be surprised if NCIS did a “CSI” and falls from grace quite quickly.
Noticed some Rush promos last night. Tuesday would have been a perfect night to schedule Rush. They’ve got a huge lead in from TBYG, and NCIS has cemented itself as a strong performer in that slot.
But, last year Rush couldn’t even compete with All Saints at 9.30, and it would get absolutely thrashed by Packed to the Rafters at 8.30. I’d say it will end up on Thursday, but it will have a poor lead in on a night that is notoriously low rating. I’d be surprised if it lasted the season.
David- can you tell me what embarrassing illness got last night – reason i ask is that next week 9 is leaving this buulsh@t show on and making sport lovers wait until 11.30 for wimbledon Why i just dont get it and am so frustrated …Monday night we wait till 11.30 for wimbledon because of a repeat of underbelly good god NOooooooooo
This week will end the same as most others. 7,9 then 10.
Demo’s dont really matter that much in this country, we are way to small.
As for coles, they can sponsor who they please. The shows are tied 2 sponsors not the other way round.
Ten should hold onto second spot this week even with it’s dodgy second half of the week. Massive win over Nine on Tuesday should be enough. homeMADE bombed in the elimination portion of the show. Knowing Nine they’ll probably bump it to 10.30pm which is a ridiculous thought but hey we are talking about the Nine Programming Department.
now, i’ll be interested in Law & Order SVU’s numbers at 8:30 given Masterchef is playing at 90 mins. Hopefully it can get above 800k
could ten win this week???
its possible!
Homemade – should be retitled Homesick – to have to stomach this awful self indulgent rubbbish twice in one night is just too much – the designers and the judges are just so unappealing and so appallingly arrogant.
One of the reasons this show fails and Masterchef succeeds is because of the casting. Masterchef has real everyday people we can all relate to – Homesick has vaccuos wannabe model types who look like they wouldn’t get out of bed unless they were the focus of the entire program.
Huge mistake Channel Nine in making this program and then shoving it in our faces twice in one night. I just wish I had Insight to switch across to while this rubbish is on!
It’s extremely unlikely that 9′s new cooking show will have anywhere near the success of Masterchef as its family against family based on home cooking. I actually thought the show may end up a day time show when I first saw the story.
has anyone else noticed that coles is masterchefs sponser and its also the sponser for 9′s new cooking show the great aussie cook off? i wonder if ten knows this. there is no way 9 can capitalise on tens success.
The golden goose needs more grain….Next season of Master Chef all eps should really go for an hour…7.30-8.30
Good to see MasterChef getting those numbers again. The show is getting more exciting & interesting. It might be able to get those figures again for Wednesday’s ep, the wedding challenge looks really interesting.
Remember Ten only care about the primetime which is 6pm-10.30pm, so their figures will be based on that time. Oztam primetime figures are based on 6pm-midnight. Ten are winning the year in 18-49 from 6pm-10.30pm, but not from 6pm-midnight. They have a ratings report every week on their Ten Corporate site which has all the different versions of weekly and year-to-date figures.
TEN tied with Nine on Sunday for 18-49 so far this year. They should really be waiting until the survey week is over before saying that. But it’s definitely a resurgence and good luck to them. The more choice for viewers the better.
so ten now lead by 2 percent, you would think they would win by atleast 4 percent tonight so they should have a good percentage lead by wed which should help weds figures. totally agree with angelsgal
i dont know if anyone knows but ten has announced that they are now the number 1 network so far this yr in 18-49 aswell as their usual 16-39
Ten will probably come second thurs. Theres a 90minute MasterChef Special called “The Wedding Challenge” which will also reveal a massive twist in the game (dont want to spoil it but if u’ve seen the biggest loser this wont be as shocking, ie: its in regards to teams and elimination process out of the challeneg). This will lead into double SVU, dont be supirsed if this move assist ten to 2nd place or even a wednesday win. If you seen MC V TGYH head to head figures u would know MC easily wins the 7:30 – 8pm hour with alot of viewers switching to TGYH for the second half. Dont expect the turn over to happen this week and expect a 1.3mil for TGYH. If the lead in boost SVU to the 1.2 it was doin on thursdays, ten will win wednesday. they have a massive AFL game on sat as well, so theres a chance it could win sat again was well. Only if they could play a movie in sydney on sat night. Ive watched ten every night and have not seen a singel add for rules during MC, this is when they should be pumpin there late week line up, Sun – Tues when MC is doin 1.7 avearge and generation and NCIS
Well Done TEN on winning Monday – Could this be the first time this year TEN wins the first 3 Nights in a row?
Masterchef was average last night, I didnt want Geni to go and that figure for Supernatural, GNW, Recruits are just fantastic.
god tens advertising revenue will be going gang busters and should do even better next yr when they pick up more sponsers for masterchef season 2. ten should win tonight, fail wed, do ok thur, fail fri, should win sat with a good afl game – sydney vs collingwood.
Good night for Ten, it seems all their shows took an increase, thats the highest ratings GNW and SPN have had this year IIRC. Ten has come first two nights in a row now, they’ll win tonight as well. Pity their Wednesday-Friday lineup is so dodgy, otherwise they could be a real contender at winning the week,
Pretty decent result for Scrubs, considering it was a rpeat everywhere but Melbourne.
Geez, Masterchef final could do close to 3 million at this rate. This Monday is like 250k higher than two weeks ago.
Glad to see GNW did well(ish) lst night. I know a few people are getting sick of Ross Noble but I still think he’s the funniest guest whenever he’s on by a long long way.
@ Rutzie: How I Met Your Mother has its finale July 1, and the week after that, the time slot will most likely be filled with Border Security and the force given that Dancing with the Stars will fill Sundays from 6.30-8.30, and the fact that that hour on 7 Mon 7.30 is always 4th in ratings for the time slot.
@ NIK C – completely disagree. Shows will do well on their own merit, not because they are put on at the same time slot as a show that was doing well in that timeslot.
Yes, Underbelly did impact the ratings of Desperate Housewives, but 7 gave viewers plenty of chances to “catch up” on missing episodes with encores and a number of repeat marathons. Suggest the interest is not what it used to be for DH.
It is interesting how humans are creatures of habit. Many people got used to watching Ch9 on a MOnday night, thanks to Underbelly, and Sea Patrol has benefitted still pulling big numbers.
I note that Desperate Housewives ahs returned to some healthier numbers after Underbelly finished, but after such a pivotal and significant episode, they are still quite low to what they used to be.
My issue is that Mondays were always Desperate Housewives which i watched when there was little Aussie drama to watch, and with Ch9 always moving timeslots and axing shows. i seem to miss out when They either move shows or compete with an existing show.
I still am annoyed over the horrendous treatment Canal Road recieved last year…
Seven should move My Name Is Earl to the Monday 8pm slot now season 8 of Scrubs is finished. Ten has a massive chance of claiming second this week. What’s the bet we see an influx of cooking shows now Masterchef is totally dominating.
I actually really enjoyed rove last night, it was a pretty funny ep and there were alot of audience laughs. good numbers, rove just seems to be getting better as his show gets older, lately been constantly getting over the million mark. ten need to use the 940 sunday timeslot better, they could be holding on to over 1m viewers if they didnt put the crap they put on! my suggestions are supernatural after rove, new season of rush after rove, simpsons
Nine should put Fringe on Sunday imo.
Congrats to RAoK.
@Ed – I agree, SN was rating before due to cannibalising effect it has on homeMade.
good job master chef!!
no suprise i meant to say
So please TEN is still doing well on Sundays.
Congrats to MasterChef, however it wasn’t the best episode of it.
Fantastic to 60 Minutes and Random Acts. Hopefully Sunday Night dies soon. Maybe no one watched it because no one wanted to see Mike Munro without pants on!
Wow John….. a little bitter. Congrats to Nine for putting up a strong line up…. i found myself flicking between nine and ten all night. Gotta get myself an iq so i can watch it all. I mustnt be alone…… im nowhere near as offended by Karl Stefanovic and Tracy Grimshaw as i am Andrew O’Keefe and Kochie and Mel……….
suprise sunday night didnt beat merlin or 60 minutes this week, their ratings will keep dropping. they dont have anyone else to bring onto the the to talk about caniel morcombe and try and make some out of nothing
Wow.. Australias gone crazy for Masterchef! Massive figure! Merlin got beaten by Nines new show, expected but Merlin will hold its audience until the end of its season. Rove did extremely well with 1.2.. its highest audience?? Well Done TEN.
random acts…if mr (i am the new ray) karl or the boofhead from blitz knocked on my door..i would promptly slam it back in their face.
the aus masterchef still has nothing on the uk version.for a start the food is disgusting.
3 Acts of Murder was terrific. Well done, Aunty!
Incredible result for Masterchef. Quite an impressive result for Bones and Castle. The double has made easy work of the once dominant CSI franchise.
lol @ CSI getting 900k coming third in its slot behind Bones and Rove. Not to mention Rove beating it by over 300k, it shows people are getting tired of the same old formula.
boo @ RAoK getting 1.4 mill, the less factual crap on air the better. I thought audiences only liked these awful shows when they were on Seven, guess the infection is now spreading onto other networks. Its also good to see BS:USA failing, regardless of no Adelaide or not thats still a poor figure.
Can I say congrats to One HD for showing the 24 hour Le Mans, we are finally getting the sport Australia’s have been missing for decades…
WoW i was expecting a figure like that for it’s finale!!
and i agree darryn, that celeb MC is just stupid. I never like those spin off celeb shows.
10 will find a way to kill off masterchef. Oh wait they already have, celebrity mc!
Masterchef!! 60 Minutes! Random Acts of Kindness! Woah!!
Nine news Number 1 in Melb and sydney….. excellent.
And great performance by Random Acts…… good start.
Holy guacamole. Thats incredible from Masterchef. I’ve eaten my humble pie. I thought it would fail. I tried to hate it the first episode. But i absolutely love it. Still can’t stand George yeah, but i’ll get over it.
And good on Castle for getting 1 mil. That’s my new favourite show.
not all things are equal
Sunday Night lower ratings due to it being on at 7.30pm in adelaide due to AFL match
The Force and Border Security also not shown in Adelaide
Rove was actually fine last night except for that Home and Away girl who was laughably bad. She was acting more like it was a job interview than just some comedy show, her arms were freaking me out as well.
It appears the CSI’s are dead, and MasterChef is all the rage at the moment.
My theory it would appear was correct, 60 Minutes was being effected by a crap lead in with homeMADE, and at the same time, due to homeMADE’s low ratings, it contributed to Sunday Night’s somewhat reasonable figures.
holly s**t! €masterchef reaches new high!! massive numbers
Let me be the first to say Wow for Master Chef ratings. For a non-finale reality TV episode, getting just shy of 2 million is just incredible. Some Network Ten execs must be out partying their butts off. And Rove is a lucky lucky man – to be frank his show last night was very bland, but he still managed to keep 1.2 mill from MC.
