Ten will easily win Sunday and probably this week. Rove was even the top trending topic on Twitter at 9.30 pm ET Sunday, Beating out Michael Jackson!

  2. gerry June 28, 2009 at 2:27 pm -

    @ Ellie,

Karl has already hosted the Carols. He did it last year with Lisa.

  3. Harry June 28, 2009 at 2:19 pm -

TEN will struggle in future when MC finishes. I wonder if they’ll put NCIS repeats on until the new season starts, I hope not, overkill. I hope their new shows work and rate well. TENs AFL commentators are so boring, fell asleep watching Hawks V Eagles last night. Come on Hawks, lift! Great to see MJ rate well. Wonder how Sevens will go on Monday.

  4. Craig June 28, 2009 at 12:06 pm -

Nine won the night, no a shock but I wonder how many stayed for the full 90 minutes?

  5. Ellie June 28, 2009 at 12:02 pm -

It’s just my opinion but nine didn’t deserve to win on the back of that embarrassing “tribute” to the king of pop; not with those two gits hosting it anyway, I turned off after 20 minutes… It’s obvious that Karl Stefanovic has become the next Ray Martin; being pulled in to cover absolutely anything that will rate. Soon we will see him hosting the carols, covering bush fires, probing politicians during election night and possibly even holding the baby cam as Tracy Grimshaw and Ramsay’s love child is born….

Random acts of kindness indeed… the act of kindness would be keeping him contained to morning tv.!!!!!!.

  6. Johnson June 28, 2009 at 11:49 am -

Wow – Today beat Saturday Disney for the first time! The coverage on Michael Jackson’s death certainly helped.

  7. gerry June 28, 2009 at 11:42 am -

Wow! Seven forth on Saturday. That’s crazy, I would have never expected that. Well Done to the ABC as well. And obviously Nine for winning the night with MJ and Video Show.

And what’s this? Today Weekend Edition beats Saturday Disney. This has got to be like the first time. I am actually starting to like Leila, but Cam still gets on my nerves. Today probably won because Leila was live in LA reporting on the “awesomest” entertainer ever.

  8. sav001 June 27, 2009 at 8:02 pm -

David, Law and Order wasn’t on last night, that figure for the Law and order rpt must be for the Micheal Jackson Special ten had on last night, instead of law and order.

  9. ryan June 27, 2009 at 7:16 pm -

can anyone answer why ten has only 10 mins of news on saturdays? i always want to watch my news on saturdays and tens coverage is shocking! you get like 6 stories and then you go straight to boring sport. i would like to see an hr or news like week nights! am i wrong they used to have an hr news ?

  10. tv June 27, 2009 at 7:03 pm -

Any word on the missing 1% on Tuesday’s result.

  11. ryan June 27, 2009 at 6:26 pm -

dont forget brad ten are putting on celebrity masterchef

  12. Brad June 27, 2009 at 5:05 pm -

TEN must be dreading the impending end of MC. Given their past history you can only imagine how tempted they are to stretch it out with special such as MC Uncut, (See what really happened in the house), MC After Dark, (a web feed of the kitchen with nothing happening) etc.

Once MC finishes they will rely on Idol which is well past its used by date and won’t have the demographic spread of MC.

Tough times ahead for the next few months!!!

  13. David Knox June 27, 2009 at 5:04 pm -

TEN’s MJ special was not logged under its title but I suspect the higher 589,000 figure for TEN Late News is actually the figure you should be looking at. Also, Seven’s Dateline MJ Special took 301,000.

  14. George June 27, 2009 at 4:37 pm -

Wow.. Three way tie! Tonight will be extremely interesting. If the ABC goes well tonight then that can hurt one of the major three.

Good to see MasterChef beat Better Homes and Gardens. Not by much, but it was a win. :P

  15. Harry June 27, 2009 at 3:48 pm -

I hope TEN wins Saturday, although Im sure they wont for some reason. Nine will because of the Michael Jackson Story they have on at 7.30pm. Where did TENs MJ late show come last night? Good to see Dance gaining.

  16. Tepee June 27, 2009 at 3:18 pm -

Friday’s MasterClass just beat BHG which is interesting, but Better Homes still very solid. As if ratings weren’t already exciting recently there’s a three way tie leading into arguably the week’s most unpredictable night. I”m on the edge of my seat! :D

i rekon dance will only grow from now, i would expect nearly 1m next week as masterchef gets more popular on fridays. neighbours is so weird, one day doing really well the next shocking.

  18. David Knox June 27, 2009 at 12:02 pm -

    Extra finished with 244,000.

    Farewell!

  19. Ducko June 27, 2009 at 11:57 am -

I think Nine will win with the MJ special. However, Ten stands a chance as it doesn’t have AFL in Sydney or Brisbane(?) in primetime this week.

  20. David Knox June 27, 2009 at 11:56 am -

Given I don’t see a KAK figure in the day’s top 100 I am presuming Today is an extended figure.

  21. philm June 27, 2009 at 11:51 am -

nevermind! i just read the “does not include overruns” bit!!!

  22. Michael June 27, 2009 at 11:51 am -

David I know you do not give figures for shows outside the top 30 but I would love to know how Extra did on its final show. Adding to this, Nine News in Brisbane actually won last night, by a rather large margin.

  23. philm June 27, 2009 at 11:49 am -

Three way tie. Expect Nine to take out the week with the MJ special. All three networks put in a great effort this week. SYTYCD increasing which is good.

Is that Today figure over the whole 6 hours or would that be counted under KAK and needs to be adjusted later?

I agree quality won over quantity. Plus by the end of the day Richard Wilkins was annoying the crap out of me!

  24. Brodie June 27, 2009 at 11:39 am -

Interesting to note the extended Nine News coverage of Michael Jackson didn’t translate to much better ratings. Even Seven’s 4.30 news must have outrated Nine’s news (which started at 4pm). I think it was a case of quantity versus quality. Nine went over board with their rehashed coverage.

Going to be a very interesting Saturday. I’m tipping a Nine win, with Ten second and Seven third.

  25. David Knox June 27, 2009 at 11:31 am -

As of Saturday it;s a three way tie!

Seven, Nine and TEN all on 26.2!!!

  26. Janey June 27, 2009 at 9:00 am -

I just saw the ratings results after Friday and it all comes down to Saturday…after Friday all commercial networks are sitting on a 26.2% for the week. Can’t get much closer than that!!

  27. RichoTB June 26, 2009 at 11:46 pm -

Rules of Engagement is rating higher than HIMYM and has improved its ratings in recent weeks, and it only has 5 eps to go before the season is over anyway. The fact is once Masterchef is done Ten will have to find something to fill up quite a few hours of content. The 7pm Project will work but what will they place @ Sun and Mon 7.30pm? It’d be good if they gave 90210 another shot, but it will probably end up being Simpsons repeats. There’s always Burn Notice but that isn’t a 7.30pm show.

  28. Goonies June 26, 2009 at 5:47 pm -

A sycophant is; a self-seeking, servile flatterer; fawning parasite. (from dictionary.com)

  29. Guy June 26, 2009 at 3:53 pm -

    @showboat

Sunrise wont be beaten this year. It is only up because of Wimbledon. If you look at figures for the same time last year a pattern always occurs when Wimbledon is on. Still in saying this i dont think Today will ever take over from Sunrise. They may win a few days in the next couple of years but Sunrise will always be the one to watch. Today is all over the place. It goes up and down like a yo-yo whereas Sunrise is always around the same audience every day on average. Meaning it gets the same on friday one week to the next not the same every day if that makes sense. It has even been winning Melbourne of late.

  30. DansDans June 26, 2009 at 3:41 pm -

What is a “Sycophant ” anyway? Surely he doesnt mean Psychopath?

  31. ryan June 26, 2009 at 3:20 pm -

masterchef might overtake better homes and gardens tonight and if so will lift dance and might give ten a better share

  32. Goonies June 26, 2009 at 2:08 pm -

This is off topic a little but I couldn’t let it go…….@ angelsgal – he called you a Sycophant not a sociopath. Geez louise!!

  33. ryan June 26, 2009 at 1:35 pm -

god i bet ten cant wait till rush starts!! rules of engagement also isnt helping!! hopefully next yr ten will have an hr ep on thursdays and have bondi vet at 8pm which would hold alot of masterchefs viewers, then they would flow onto rush also.neighbours lost ground after 3 days over 900,000. law and order c.i with new guy sucks major!!

  34. Showboat June 26, 2009 at 12:28 pm -

I hate to say this but Today really is on the up & up. It will, I predict, overtake Sunrise within 3months.

  35. Janey June 26, 2009 at 11:42 am -

Ellie, demographics are important in this country as far as the networks selling advertising to clients. Common sense tells you that an advertiser does not want to buy time in the highest rating show, if that show only wins because of the over 55s. McDonalds, mobile phones, coke, pepsi, toyota etc would want to target certain demographics for their products and the younger demographic is in more demand and are more willing to spend their money than the older demographic who are more set in their ways.
So…yes…demographics are very important in this country as far as advertisers are concerned. The media, however, is a different story, because unlike the U.S. where they report an 18-49 win as a win for the night…the media here still consider demographics to be network spin, and so only really take the total people figures seriously. It doesn’t help when all 3 networks give out different information. Seven target 25-54 and now that they are the number 1 network, they also target total people. Nine target 25-54 and now that they are not number 1, they only target that demographic. More than 10 years ago, Ten decided that they would never be number 1, so decided to only target 16-39s and have made a very successful business out of being number 1 in that demographic. A few years ago Ten decided to broaden their audience to also target 18-49s, which is the much sought after demo in the U.S. Ten are number 1 for the year so far in both 16-39 and 18-49. Nine are number 1 for the year so far in 25-54 and Seven and number 1 for the year so far in total people.
I know I’m not David, but I hope that helps answer your question.

  36. wamdue June 26, 2009 at 10:43 am -

damm Neighbours ratings took a nose dive 900,00 + Monday to Wednesday (im betting TEN would like to see more of that) but only 770,000 on Thursday

  37. Darryn June 26, 2009 at 10:41 am -

    Wow 7 smashed 10 & came a very respectable 2nd :-)

  38. Brodie June 26, 2009 at 10:39 am -

If last week’s Friday shares are repeated tonight, Seven will be leading the week with Ten slipping to third. I think it will all come down to Saturday, which have been very hard to predict lately.

  39. Trev June 26, 2009 at 10:36 am -

Hey people! Don’t get so worked up about who outrated who…it doesn’t really matter. If you enjoy a program watch it, if not use the remote. All stations have top shows along with the drebbage (read crap) and most of that is in the top 10 to boot. Chill out, you’re only here once, although TV would be more enjoyable without Eddie McGuire and Andrew O’Keefe.

  40. Rutzie June 26, 2009 at 10:36 am -

With PTTR coming back next week I can’t see Seven losing another week this year.

  41. George June 26, 2009 at 10:12 am -

Wow, TEN have still managed to hold onto 1st position for this week so far!

    TEN: 26.7%
    Nine: 26.56%
    Seven: 25.58%

If SYTYCD continues its upward climb in ratings tonight, and AFL goes well TEN might manage to win the week or probably come second.

It’s amazing Nine isn’t winning the week, considering State of Origin was on this week. Trouble in Paradise didn’t really rate that spectacuarly.. It will be an easy pushover when Rush returns next month.
TEN need to fix their Thursday lineup though. When Rush returns I hope they put something different at 7:30 which will rate better than Rules of Engagement. They should put Rules of Engagement on Saturdays I reckon instead of GNW repeats.

  42. Ellie June 26, 2009 at 8:41 am -

David could you please give your opinion on whether “demos” are really that important in this country. I hear so many different reports from everywhere. Especially from channels that don’t “care” about total numbers (until they are winning of course). Thanks :O)

  43. Anita June 26, 2009 at 3:32 am -

Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson) wasn’t on the episode of SVU aired in Sydney at 9:30pm on Wednesday night = yaaawn to watch…

  44. Doug84 June 26, 2009 at 3:28 am -

“s**t retention”? I thought this was a tv forum, not medical. Maybe someone needs a laxative

  45. angelsgal June 25, 2009 at 9:13 pm -

Darryn wtf is ur problem. as far as im concerned this is an open forum and everybody is entitled to there opinion. Calling someone a sociopath for having one is really crossing the line. Yes SVU has s**t retention. There i said it, fact is, its had s**t retention every week its aired in that slot, and ten have gotten less than 20% shares on wednesdays, when origin isnt on. so i felt like congratulating them for convincling beating seven to second spot. as far as im concrened that wasnt against the law to do. ten are winning most nights on the back of masterchef, so what else is there to say atm, go nine for comming last again. Seven had a nice press release come out for Monday saying they dominated the night when they just scraped a win, not dominating. Fact is there was a significate gap between second and 3rd and i was clearly stating it, it wasnt 25.2 v 25.4 ten had a comfortable gap last night, enough for them to still be leading the week atm.

Ur actions are makin u look like a 7 fan boy that cant handel the fact that 10 have come along and given them a run for there moeny. Well dont worry, MC is about to finish and ten wont have much else so ur golden channel will be fine. if we gott

  46. George June 25, 2009 at 5:39 pm -

Wow! New SVU rated very well in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth compared to the past few weeks. And good on TEN for keeping MasterChef against State of Origin, worked in their favor, helping them stay fairly far in front this week. MasterChef has really developed a following!

David, what did TEN air in Sydney and Brisbane instead of SVU? Did it rate well?

Neighbours is stronger this week so far.. I tuned in the other night and I personally did not like what I saw one bit. However the increased numbers is probably people like me who catch a bit of Neighbours while waiting for MasterChef to come on. TEN News at Five and The Simpsons are much stronger now, so I guess it could just be the leadin?

Poor Seven getting such a low amount of viewers last night.. Had Nine not had State of Origin I wonder what might have been..

  47. Darryn June 25, 2009 at 4:44 pm -

Well then angelsgal maybe the real story is 10′s awful retention rate after mc?. Unlike you, i give credit to any show on any channel if it deserves it. I’m sure you would of noticed that, but then again sycophants rarely can see past there primary driven agenda.

  48. DAN June 25, 2009 at 4:21 pm -

I wonder if the state of origin ratings will drop for game 3 because yet again the bloody blues have lost again I sure as hell won’t be watching it no point

  49. Andrew B June 25, 2009 at 4:20 pm -

@ Ryan: At 9.30 or so, viewers would be coming back from SOO and Chaser so not really a surpise. Also, at 8.30, SOO is barely into the game, so viewers at 8.30 could have gone from Masterchef to SOO or Spicks and Specks.

We all have remotes – why does everyone assume a high rating show will help the one after it? Really don’t get why so many people talk about lead ins these days.

  50. Jed June 25, 2009 at 4:04 pm -

Yeah but gerry you have to very little brains to sit through a single minute of anything with Eddie McGuire.

  51. Harry June 25, 2009 at 3:48 pm -

Neighbours is rating very well this week. All 3 eps have rated over 900,000 – thats a first for the show! Its usually 700k. Law and Order figures are odd!

  52. gerry June 25, 2009 at 3:40 pm -

    @ Andrew B,

Well it kind of does. Hot Seat requires brain power to answer the questions, especially if you play along at home like I do. Deal or No Deal could be played by a three year old. How hard is it? “I pick case 10″ WTF?

  53. angelsgal June 25, 2009 at 3:22 pm -

    Darryn

ten had a split network last night

syd & bris had a law & order criminal intent rpt, while mel/ade/perth had a new svu. So just like 7, they had a split network last night. The combined audience was 979,000, edging out Criminal Minds for the hour.

They might of had a split lineup, but 7 only had 1 repeat the entire night being CM @ 8:30, Ten had 1 repeat at 9.30 in all markets and a repeat of CI in NRL Markets. So in actual fact, 7′s lineup was on paper probably stronger, and it couldnt get them over the line.

The CM repeat was only 38k off SVU melbourne so it wasnt liked it completly tanked consdiering the leadin SVU had in Melbourne, 7 were the winners, despite comming last in the slot, cos a new ep wasnt wasted and it got the same results.

I guess u would of known that if u actually read the whole ratings instead of just 7s

  54. hoople June 25, 2009 at 2:38 pm -

ten had a split network last night

syd & bris had a law & order criminal intent rpt, while mel/ade/perth had a new svu
hence why the svu rpt did better because it included all markets

  55. RichoTB June 25, 2009 at 2:27 pm -

That’s a bit odd, SVU’s new ep didn’t air last night in Brisbane, as I said I watched Ten last night and it was a repeat of Criminal Intent at 8.30pm

And its kind of funny how Family Guy outrated Earl by 100k, despite being on an hour later. The Chaser’s retained solid figures, it will bounce back next week without SOO breathing down its neck

  56. Darryn June 25, 2009 at 1:54 pm -

Actually angelsgal 10′s line up was the best it could do, 7′s was a mish mash of split state programming & 8.30 repeats. I guess u would of known that if u actually read the whole ratings instead of just 10s

  57. David Knox June 25, 2009 at 1:51 pm -

I don’t give figures for every show every day outside the Top 30.

    Wed:
    Sunrise 429,000
    Today: 298,000
    Extra: 201,000.

  58. Michael June 25, 2009 at 1:45 pm -

David would you be able to let us know how Extra has gone thus far in its final week and also let us know how is goes on Friday. Thanks

  59. ryan June 25, 2009 at 1:23 pm -

how did the law and order repeat get 300,000 more than the new ep and when the new ep had masterchef as a lead in?? is that a mistake by oztam?

  60. angelsgal June 25, 2009 at 12:59 pm -

Darryn Nine were expected to win by a massive margin. Last night was a fight for second and cosidering both networks had a strong lineup and 7 beat ten last week despite a 90min MasterChef, yes they did smash them. Also despite SOO, Ten still lead the week and 7 (which are 3rd) will probably overtake nine on Friday. This week is gonna be tight and will probably go down to sat.

  61. Paul Ducan June 25, 2009 at 12:29 pm -

what were Sunrise and Today show ratings yesterday?

  62. Craig June 25, 2009 at 11:48 am -

Of course Nine was going to win but it was to see TEN hold on to 2nd for the night.

  63. Benno June 25, 2009 at 11:26 am -

Where did all the viewers calling for the Chaser’s heads go? Oh that’s right, either they are still watching, or they never watched it in the first place. Both last night’s episode and the previous episode had almost identical ratings.

  64. Darryn June 25, 2009 at 11:23 am -

Angelsgal if 10 “smashed” 7 as you claim (2.7% to be exact) then it is hard to claim 10 came a respectable 2nd when they trailed 9 by 6.5%?

  65. Benno June 25, 2009 at 11:16 am -

Criminal Intent is a huge improvement to what last season was IMO.

  66. Dino June 25, 2009 at 11:04 am -

Nine coming a humiliating third in an Origin week is looking very likely.

Will be interesting to see whether Ten hold onto first place, though the rest of the week their schedule falls off, whilst Seven gains momentum. Either way, it’s going to be very close week between Seven and Ten.

  67. angelsgal June 25, 2009 at 10:55 am -

Nine won the night as expected. Ten did very well smashing 7 and comming a respectable 2nd. MC did fantastic figures. Amazing ep last night, i wish ten had the rights to The Amazing race. How good would it be.

I have to agree RichoTB in regards to SVU its never been must watch for me but lately, every week i never have plans to watch it then find myself guled for the next two hours. CI lost its touch a while ago and is off the rader for me now that Chris North is gone, but SVU keeps getting better, unlike other shows its age eg. CSI

  68. Darryn June 25, 2009 at 10:26 am -

Origin week & 7 are going to win the week. Amazing. 900k plus 4 neighsbors 3 nights in a row is also very good. Wonder what mc’s ratings would of been if it finished at 8pm? 1 mill diff between 9′s pre game & game.

  69. MR June 25, 2009 at 8:24 am -

Great to see Grand Designs with close to 1 mil on a big tuesday night line up on 10 9 and 7

  70. RichoTB June 25, 2009 at 1:52 am -

Somehow I have become a fan of Law and Order SVU. The current ratings for it aren’t too hot but as far as crime dramas go, its one of the better ones on television and the writing and acting is some of the best on air. It can be a little dark at times but its a much more compelling watch than the oversensationalised stylistic CSIs. I also watched a Criminal Intent repeat last night and ended up falling asleep and waking up in time for SVU, which was a good episode. I taped the Chaser’s and will catch them tomorrow

  71. Andrew B June 25, 2009 at 1:13 am -

@ryan: What makes you think there is a rule about EPGs? 7 and 9 both run late as well as early at various times as well. Only 10, ABC ans SBS provide accurate times to the minute. Its not hard!

@Gerry: Watching Hot Seat means you have more brains? Logic there?
