cant stand why channel seven news is always doing better than nine news i prefer to watch the nine news they tell there news better.Even with breaking news there always there and the sports report i prefer nine and channel nine is the best channel to watch i think the micheal jackson what really happened was good to watch who ever was bragging it dont no wat they missed i think it was better coverage of wat ten and seven have done with micheal jackson.

Yes, stands to reason the longer something goes the more its average share will diminish. Especially at that hour!

Saturday Disney started 30 minutes earlier yesterday and guess what: it dropped even further and lost to Today’s Saturday edition in all five major cities! Which is a shame, because SD has been an institution for more than a decade, and Today’s Saturday edition was only revived more than two months ago.

    @ Gerry.

No its far from boring. And she does not look like a transexual. Its the best aussie drama in my opinion, watch a few more eps and you’ll slowly get into it.

This Afternoon coming 200k behind Bold and the Beautiful and MASH will see it getting axed rather soon unless it improves. And I have to say what’s with all the network fanboys on here, people are supporting their favourite network and bashing the rivals left right and centre. Sure, its always been that way, but its happening a hell of a lot more now, its all quite silly IMO. They all have their faults, IMO Nine is the worst as they have no good programming and trashy shows but Seven are becoming just as bad with that World’s Strictest Parents and True Beauty crap coming up soon. I watch ABC (Chaser’s, news, Media Watch) a lot more than the commercial nets anyway.

    @ harry,

No I agree with Joshua. It’s really boring, and she does look like a tranny.

  7. Harry July 4, 2009 at 3:58 pm -

    @ Joshua

Rush is not boring, its brilliant. No need to call anyone a transexual on here either. Jolene is very talented.

  8. Joshua July 3, 2009 at 4:47 pm -

    rush was boring.
jolene anderson looks like a transexual

Media Watch is constantly pulling up ACA and TT, unfortunately they never change their spots.

  10. James Grant July 3, 2009 at 1:54 pm -

Benno – Andrew B’s comment is probably a valid one – most of us watch these crappy current affairs shows at 6.30pm because on FTA during this timeslot there is very else to watch – sometimes you watch this rubbish because it is just so bad and some of the reporting so cringeworthy it’s almost laughable – some of the journalists go to extraordinary lengths to outdo each other with their ‘indepth coverage’ and ‘sticking up for the little man’ stories but essentially all they seem concerned about is trying to outdo each other – they consistently run the same story at the same tim with each claiming it to be an exclusive. If ACA is doing a story on say Schapelle Corby – guarantee Today Tonight will feature a story with sister Mercedes or that mother of theirs, just to outdo the other – the viewer then is caught in their crossfire – they become so much like those Frontline reporters you almost expect Mike Moore to jump out from behind a bush at anytime!

While both shows feature prominently in prime time it doesn’t excuse either from scutiny either because of the quality of the current affairs reporting or by featuring consumer affairs stories that are largely just product placement ads. If we as viewers simply accept this type of programming they’ll keep doing it. Let’s hope Media Watch or better still the Chaser Boys do a bit of a job on these two shows in the coming weeks – it might all open our eyes a bit more!

  11. Nick July 3, 2009 at 1:33 pm -

today tonight is an awesome show, what are you guys on about.

  12. ryan July 3, 2009 at 12:42 pm -

1st episode of Rush is available to watch on ten website right now:)

  13. Andrew B July 3, 2009 at 10:53 am -

ACA and TT rate so well as there is nothing else on at 6.30 other than Neighbours which does not appeal to most, together with the fact that so many people are drawn to those sorts of stories even though they do them all the time.

  14. Benno July 3, 2009 at 10:49 am -

James Grant, you watching is another viewer on that total figure. Can’t complain about so many people watching something then doing exactly that. I too can’t fathom how so many people can watch even some of that drivel.

  15. james Grant July 3, 2009 at 9:03 am -

Both A Current Affair and Today Tonight do not deserve the ratings they achieve. Both programs have become nothing but 30 minute advertorials for whatever product placement or latest fad they want to pass off as current affairs!!!.
Last night both programs were bragging an exclusive story on ‘property hotspots -this was nothing more than a blatant ad for real estate agents to advertise their latest properties. Both programs had the agent, the name of the agency and sweeping vision of these hot properties and their asking price – excuse me for stating the obvious but isnt that an ad?? Both programs spent around 10 minutes in prime time!!! advertising these properties and this is supposed to be current affairs.
Tracey Grimshaw should hang her head in shame – over the last few months she’s been touted as one of Nine’s most credible and gusty performers, supposedly because of the way she handled Matt Johns and Gordon Ramsay – yet she fronts a show that week after week is proclaiming the next big thing in toys /anti-ageing creams/bras and…now properties. This is not current affairs Trace – just blatant advertorials and the marketing companies must love it when they front your show requesting an ‘ exclusive’!
Today Tonight even used last night’s show to plug the best personal loans on offer around the country – they listed the five best lending institutions, their location and their interest rates – now is this current affairs or simply a 5 minute unpaid advertisement for the banks – you be the judge!

Nine still has problems, it’s like they take one step forward then two steps back! On top of that the “What Really Happened” special was awful and a re-run of a show aired on ABC last year. Even TENs coverage with the CBS News is just lazy programing with no local content.

I hope TEN can at least pull off 2nd again this week.

  17. Benny July 2, 2009 at 10:50 pm -

The Chaser has lost its edge. They should have bowed out after the APEC stunt. They would have gone out on a high.

Today, I finally plucked up the courage to watch This Afternoon. The woman host said words to the effect of “I had a book which showed how my fetus was growing at each week of pregnancy. I was addicted to that book”. Suffice to say that’s all I needed to hear, and I do not regret having missed the first two episodes.

  18. Benno July 2, 2009 at 10:49 pm -

It is definitely a fallacy to assume that the Chaser is down 20% due solely to that one sketch. I’m thinking that, just like practically every other show on television, the opening episode to a season has people watching out of curiosity as a result of heavy advertising and word of mouth. That sort of publicity dies down after the season opener, and as a result, audience numbers dip a bit. This is the Chaser we are talking about, and the people tuning into the show know that they go for edgy content. I highly doubt that, after the hundreds of other ‘offensive’ skits which people have turned a blind eye to, that is the one that makes them switch off for good, let alone 20% of the audience.

  19. Ellie July 2, 2009 at 8:25 pm -

@ steve… not that it really matters :O) and promise I am not trying to be argumentative, but that night was an origin night so I’d hope it was up!!

    From “mumbrella”

Chaser audience down about 20% on series opening

The Chaser’s first “normal” night on the TV schedule after the controversial dying kids sketch has seen a fall of about 20% on its series opening.
Wednesday night saw The Chaser’s War On Everything pull in an audience of 1.2m, according to preliminary figures from OzTam. That compares with an audience of just over 1.5m for the the beginning of the series.
The second episode, which included the much-debated Make A Reasonable Wish Foundation sketch was on the same night of State of Origin on Nine. It was then followed by a layoff while editorial policies were reviewed, with last week’s return also being on a State of Origin Night.
Previously The Chaser had a similar audience to Spicks & Specks, which preceeds it. However last night, The Chaser was around 200,000 behind.

  20. Nick July 2, 2009 at 4:39 pm -

The hosts of THIS afternoon are very awkward. Mark Ferguson is great. Just get him to read the news every afternoon.

  21. kevin July 2, 2009 at 3:58 pm -

Does anyone know how the Foxsport tennis figures are going compared to 9′s woeful coverage???

  22. Darryn July 2, 2009 at 3:58 pm -

Fred stolle & necombe hoping for & urging novak 2 lose in straight sets & then 4 sets so that hewitt’s match could start was disgusting. How on earth 9 has been able 2 keep the rights has got me beat. Give it to a worthier channel.

  23. Jerome July 2, 2009 at 1:32 pm -

9′s new afternoon lineup is backfiring. This afternoon lost almost 100k on ep1. and is now lower than the 4:30 news was getting. it’s more than 100k down on antiques. and Hot Seat brisbane is down 70-100k on extra.
It’s affecting the 6:00-7:00 gap. all this week the gap between 7&9 news has been around 400k when previous weeks have been around 300k.

  24. Jed July 2, 2009 at 1:24 pm -

I watched some of THISafternoon yesterday. Andrew Daddo = hopeless, he cannot host a show at all. and who is the woman?? she was just as bad. Daddo was acting like he knew something about footy talking about John Elliott and then a very bad segue into an unfunny clip that the girl gave a fake laugh for. Terrible show.

  25. David Knox July 2, 2009 at 1:11 pm -

    487,000.

  26. aussiebum July 2, 2009 at 1:08 pm -

David, do you have the figures for ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ on Wednesday?

  27. Steve July 2, 2009 at 12:42 pm -

@ Ellie, ratings are actually up from the episode that featured the unprecedentedly controversial “Make A Realistic Wish Foundation” sketch.

  28. ryan July 2, 2009 at 12:40 pm -

so are working dog happy they have not met the larger and broader audience? but infact are on average down 200,000

  29. George July 2, 2009 at 11:51 am -

So far Seven lead with 28.05%, TEN are second with 26.53% and Nine are third with 24.88%. I reckon TEN are going to come second again this week.

MasterChef rated extremely well last night, TEN’s MJ special went OK, fairly consistant with the other ratings for MJ specials, SVU did well for 9PM and so did House’s return at 10PM.

  30. Andrew D July 2, 2009 at 11:21 am -

last nights ep of chaser was one of the most bland and boring that i can remember. They need to be more edgy and controversial and push the boundaries to be entertaining.

  31. Andrew B July 2, 2009 at 10:55 am -

As for Chaser, could simply be its not that funny anymore.

  32. Andrew B July 2, 2009 at 10:54 am -

This Afternoon is getting the same figure as Extra – bu for all 5 cities together – whereas Extra was getting those numbers for Brisbane alone.

The show is just wrong and out of place there. They should put Extra back in Bris and try Extras for rest of Aus as well… it was working in Bris. I know they tried years ago, but might be an idea to try again?

  33. David Knox July 2, 2009 at 10:14 am -

    Two eps next week.

  34. Rutzie July 2, 2009 at 10:11 am -

I know it’s early for This Afternoon but Nine must be worried at those figures for Wednesday. Judging by those numbers for both Michael Jackson specials last night I have a feeling we are going to see a few more of them. I also thought The Chaser would rate a bit better than 1.2million without SOO on this week.

  35. pietro July 2, 2009 at 10:06 am -

Is Melbourne showing the 1st ep. of PTTR this week or will it always be a week behind?

  36. Ellie July 2, 2009 at 10:02 am -

    Chaser first week

    3rd with 1,540,000 514,000 478,000 235,000 141,000 172,000

    Chaser last night

    9th with 1,202,000 396,000 329,000 211,000 128,000 138,000

Dying kids or just lack of interest?????

  37. Brodie July 2, 2009 at 10:02 am -

This Afternoon can’t last much longer with figures like that.

  38. Harry July 1, 2009 at 11:18 pm -

Packed To The Rafters is overated in my opinion. The EJ Witten game was boring. Enough said. The starts that ‘played’ (eg vince collosimo) were a total let down!

  39. Darryn July 1, 2009 at 5:36 pm -

10 is 1 million viewers lighter on mon/tues compared 2 last week. Thats quite a shedding

  40. ryan July 1, 2009 at 4:54 pm -

ten won the night in 16-39 and 18-49:)
