Craig, does PTTR always run for the first 25 minutes without an ad break? The first break was for the lotto result, just before 9pm.

  2. showboat July 1, 2009 at 1:57 pm -

QTQ9 clearly backed the wrong horse with THISarvo. Obviously it was out of QTQ’s hands. Never liked Extra but axing a for the most part top rating show is bizarre. I see what they wanted a national format but axing Extra when 9news in Brisbane is going thru a transition phase can only lead to confusion with viewers and low ratings.

Enormous night for Seven. PTTR would have been up to UB numbers with Melbourne! Nice increase for The Zoo and FMF also – Packed helped these two shows improve by up to 300k just becuase it’s a lead-out, although obviously the Lotto would’ve too. That awful show 10 Years Younger did fantastic business at 10:30 too. TEN held up well, although NCIS rpt 1 was well down with some actual competition. As for Nine, clearly the footy nor homeMADE finale part 1 couldn’t save them.

    @ justin,

I never asked anything about lotto draws! I think you directed that comment to the wrong person!

    LOL!
Nine got smashed last night. Tuesdays are not their day at all especially with that HOMEmade still on. Interesting to see the huge increase of Find my Family overtake TBYG.
Rafters was a solid return last night! Good way to start the season!

  6. Brodie July 1, 2009 at 12:25 pm -

Excellent result for Rafters. Including Melbourne, I think it may get 2.1 – 2.2m viewers next week.

lol ryan, those sour grapes could not be any more obvious.

  7. Matthew July 1, 2009 at 12:16 pm -

umm, @Tony “it confirmed what I’ve always said about Aussie sit-coms: with a very few exceptions (Kath & Kim, Mother & Son), Australia is really bad at making them, That show is appallingly unfunny!”

You know why Rafters last night wasn’t a laugh-out-load-a-second sitcom? Because its a family drama. not a sitcom.

  8. angelsgal July 1, 2009 at 12:05 pm -

Ellie…ten got smashed, im happy to say it cos it happened. The reason why there appears to be so many Ten fans is because they are the hot network atm. Everyone is watching them, they have launched one of the biggest hits in the past 5 years with MasterChef (mainly cos its doing massive figures 6 nights a week unlike say a 1hour drama) and there new shows are doing well. They are fresh and exciting. I watched Generation for the 1st time last night just to see what the massive figures were about and i have to say i quite enjoyed this show and will probably be back next week. I can see why its popular cos u can play along at home, i found myself screaming out answers and almost wanting to smash that blonde girl playing for GenY who didnt know who Lois Lane was, nor who played her in Lois and Clarke: The New Adventures of Superman.

FMF proved it can do good figures without rafters, but very strong figures as it is rewarded by the “Rafters effect”. I cant see the mass apeal in this show, but good on Seven for taking a risk on this very popular family drama. Nine were eniliated….enough said. Generation suffered from MC being a little down and the early rafters switch on. NCIS did very well for a repeat.

  9. ryan July 1, 2009 at 11:25 am -

i dont mind ten was beaten. ten’s the network everyone’s talking about this yr! and for good reasons, unlike the discussions about 7 and 9! pttr did well last night and so did alsaints, but i would say next week they will both loose around 100,000 even though mel is added, find my loser family also did well.

  10. Andrew B July 1, 2009 at 11:12 am -

If Rafters was on in Melb, the total ratings would have come very close to beating the premiere of Underbelly 2 earlier this year.

  11. Jerome July 1, 2009 at 11:12 am -

that is huge for PTTR the most recent ep got:
    1 Packed To The Rafters Seven 2,033,000 576,000 688,000 344,000 188,000 237,000

thats 1.345mil without melb. but melbourne has always been their clear biggest market. as soon as approx 700k melb viewers are added it will easily break 2.1 million.

  12. Andrew B July 1, 2009 at 11:10 am -

Thank you David for Humphry ratings. Have always wondered. Its one of 2 shows we watch on ch 9 here!

  13. Sillygostly July 1, 2009 at 10:55 am -

Great to see Hot Seat regularly cracking the 700k mark.

  14. Ellie July 1, 2009 at 10:24 am -

I wondered what excuses and damnation of the other networks all the Channel 10 lovers would make about being beaten LOL

  15. Dino July 1, 2009 at 10:22 am -

Killer result for Seven last night. Packed to the Rafters led to a return of fortunes for their entire lineup. The factuals up markedly before it, and All Saints also winning it’s timeslot and much stronger demographically. 10 Years Younger huge for 10.30, as was Lipstick Jungle for 11.30.

The NCIS rpts hold up well for Ten, though all of Ten’s shows down markedly. Seven should have just bit the bullet and showed Rafters nationally last night, The EJ Whitten game only barely beat All Saints in Melbourne last night.

  16. Craig July 1, 2009 at 10:08 am -

Good to see PTTR back but too much with the lotto announcement across the screen every few minutes! Enough already, yes it was a big draw but OMG you needed to be living under a rock if you didn’t know it was being drawn last night.

@Tony – the lotto is always on at the same time regardless of the program on at 8:30 Tuesday nights, why sit through it if you don’t like the show, go to their web site and get them there right after the draw.

Back to the ratings it would have been interesting to see the numbers is it was on in Vic as well but 1.5 mil is a great number regardless!

Good to see My Gen still in there, good on TEN for taking out 2nd for the night.

  17. Macarthurblack July 1, 2009 at 10:03 am -

“How shameful of 7″, “How far will 7 go”… Sounds like good business sense to me. If you had a business and knew over 2 million people would be watching wouldn’t you want to give it a plug? You’d be stupid if you didn’t.

  18. Tony July 1, 2009 at 8:31 am -

How shameful of Channel 7, making people sit through 30 minutes of Packed With the Rafters before announcing the lotto winners! My wife made me sit through the show for the first time and it confirmed what I’ve always said about Aussie sit-coms: with a very few exceptions (Kath & Kim, Mother & Son), Australia is really bad at making them. That show is appallingly unfunny!

  19. ryan July 1, 2009 at 3:16 am -

i couldnt believe 7 had sonia telling lotto to plug dancing with the losers! how far will seven go? i also had the lotto results before 7 showed them! i guess it doesnt matter, dancing with the stars has had its time and its well and truly over cooked. i would say 1.6m for the return and then 1.1-2m week in week out

  20. Andrew B July 1, 2009 at 1:55 am -

Predicting 2.5 million for Packed to the Rafters… oh wait – not on in Melbourne… would be up there if it was.

Should still be incredibly high, especially with lotto draw in first 15 mins.

Yes, if sneak peeks can be listed as there own show, I agree lotto draw should be too.

BTW: TV Burp promos are hilarious!

  21. Rutzie July 1, 2009 at 12:52 am -

Did Seven really need to drag out Sonia Kruger to host the lotto draw just so she could sneak in a plug for Dancing With The Stars.

  22. Justin June 30, 2009 at 11:36 pm -

    @gerry

My understanding is that few years ago, they decided to pre-record the lotto draws about 15 minutes before they go to air.

The reason being was that if the lotto machine either has a hissy fit or jams up (as seemed to happen at least once every 6 months) they can fix the machine and start the draw again, and not make the numbers of the failed draw public.

A example of the issues they used to have was that if If the machine picks 2 balls for instance instead of 1, which ball do you make valid? Or do you stop the telecast, and then make both balls invalid?

  23. Jimbo June 30, 2009 at 11:34 pm -

since we saw Oztam having a 2 minute sneak peek program on the list, are they going to have a ”speacial presentation of Oz Lotto $100,000,000 draw”?

  24. gerry June 30, 2009 at 8:54 pm -

Big bang Theory did fairly well on Monday. We’ll just have to wait and see if it grows. Nine should wait and see what happens after Scrubs has finished. Big Bang Theory may get some of their viewers.

  25. Matt June 30, 2009 at 8:44 pm -

Hey David, not sure where to post this but its 8:40pm Tuesday and I’ve managed to get the lotto results from lotto.com.au before the so-called “live” is even on Channel Seven. How do they explain that?

  26. Jono D June 30, 2009 at 5:40 pm -

what time was the Sneak Peek World’s Strictest Parents on seven
i didn’t no it was on

  27. angelsgal June 30, 2009 at 4:01 pm -

    Harry recruits didnt drop 500k.

    LW – 5 Recruits Ten 1,349,000 397,000 409,000 229,000 131,000 183,000
    TW – 15 Recruits Ten 1,073,000 341,000 307,000 159,000 110,000 156,000

    <0.276K

still a significate drop, but i think it will go up next week with the return on Scrubs and no factual on Nine anymore

  28. ryan June 30, 2009 at 2:52 pm -

just to let everyone know masterchef had a survey on their site to let them know what to change to make season 2 better, so go fill it out:)

  29. sam June 30, 2009 at 2:50 pm -

    thanks daniel………

  30. Harry June 30, 2009 at 2:48 pm -

Recruits dropped 500k from last week. Ouch!

  31. Daniel June 30, 2009 at 1:42 pm -

@sam. yes, the stkilda geelong game will be live on fox sports plus (channel 518) at 3pm.

  32. angelsgal June 30, 2009 at 1:25 pm -

Good night for 7. The MJ Special did well for them. Id say the “Sneek Peek” was an overrun of the special. Id say the MJ special did well once MasterChef Finishes as Recruits was down alot week on week. As for MasterChef, it contnues to power on. I remember heaps of ppl saying it would be a “Masterflop”, and that it wouldnt last 2 weeks. I didnt think it would flop, but i thout it would do like 1 – 1.1mil on weekdays and 1.2 – 1.3 on Sundays. We were all worng and this has turned out to not omly be a massive hit, but an awsome show. DH doing well, shame its split accross markets. Sea Patrol holding in there. still Nine must be disappointed that even with a big budget drama, they cant win monday. last week they were 3rd, this week tied with ten for Second…must not be happy at all.

  33. Craig June 30, 2009 at 12:37 pm -

A Rush ‘sneak peak’ would be good, at least 7 & 10 know the meaning of the words unlike ch9 who aired complete eps of Flashpoint until they killed it off!

  34. Jezza of the city June 30, 2009 at 12:23 pm -

the ch7 sneek peek was a superb show and left me wanting more….I hope they do more sneak peeks as they are a surefire ratings winner

  35. ryan June 30, 2009 at 11:46 am -

ten might aswell use the rush promos as a show when they are aired during masterchef to add a new show to the top

  36. ryan June 30, 2009 at 11:44 am -

totally agree andrew b, if its not listed in the epg then i dont know how its allowed to be classed as a show! just shows just how pathetic network 7 is and what it will do to try to get back to the top!! all i can say is they are heading down 9′s road.

  37. Jerome June 30, 2009 at 11:44 am -

    @Andrew B
WSP sneek peak was in the EPG and advertised.

  38. sam June 30, 2009 at 11:41 am -

as an AFL fan- sydney are getting the swans game on sunday on 7 …Yawn.while everywhere else will get the ” home and away match of the century” st kilda and geelong….can anyone tell me if foxtel will have this game on 518 on sunday for the sydney market???

  39. Rob June 30, 2009 at 11:36 am -

Sneak Peak = total rort, OzTam needs to tighten their loopholes as to what constitutes ratable programming.

  40. Andrew B June 30, 2009 at 11:23 am -

If its not in the program and EPG it should not count. Sneak peeks should be seen as ads, and maybe anything below 5 minutes should not count at all.

As for the ABC news update, I believe that goes for 5 minutes, and is listed in programs? Very different.

  41. Jerome June 30, 2009 at 11:08 am -

WSP looks like a good show. i agree with Jed, how the hell do those ratings work. after the MJ special there was a sponsor board, an ad and a CH promo then the sneak peak where did the 1.8 come from. should point out the sneak peaks are usually left out of the weekly top shows, they’re just counted to show advertisers that the hype is out there.

7 also started the promos for TVburp last night and god that show looks ordinary. but i will be watching WSP the UK version is great.

  42. David Knox June 30, 2009 at 10:33 am -

Whilst I’m no fan of Sneak Peeks being logged as a title, it’s not much different to ABC News Update being ranked as a show everyday, or big finales being split into 3 different titles. Networks are smart, they know how to play these things in their favour. As to how it nabs such a figure, shorter shows always deliver a higher figure, than an hour which averages out. 1.87 probably matches a peak for Michael Jackson Story.

  43. Jed June 30, 2009 at 10:20 am -

How the hell does the sneak peak become number one on the night??? Does that mean that Seven could have 1.8 million for Desperate Housewives but 600,000 people turned off when they saw it wasn’t on at 8.30??

It makes no sense. 1.3m for Michael Jackson, 1.2m for DH how does a 10 minute sneak peak between them get 1.8m?

  44. Brodie June 30, 2009 at 9:57 am -

Massive figure for the World’s Strictest Parents sneak peek, It actually looks like a pretty good show. But I don’t know why a 2 minute promo is allowed to be listed as a separate show.

The Michael Jackson Special looks to have taken some shine off Masterchef and especially Recruits.

  45. Ben June 30, 2009 at 12:49 am -

Some of the comments on here really do bring this site down.

  46. Steve June 30, 2009 at 12:38 am -

@ Jed. I agree and World’s Strictest Parents looks very Wife Swap to me.

  47. Jed June 29, 2009 at 11:56 pm -

Channel Seven, enough of the bloody sneak peaks, i don’t care. The show is scheduled to start at 8.30 so bloody put it on at 8.30.

And does anyone else think Channel Seven is heading the way of Channel Nine? I’ve seen ads for new shows True Beauty and World’s Strictest Parents and thought my god what are you doing Channel Seven. Not to mention Airline, carbon copy of a Nine show. Channel Seven have quality programs are winning the ratings and they decide to follow Nine’s footsteps and put on bogan trash. Why???

  48. Will June 29, 2009 at 10:05 pm -

dude: Newsflash: if guests are on, they are going to be interviewed by: Rove. The supporting cast is there because they are supporting: Rove. The vast majority of the audience in studio and at home are there to watch: Rove. Don’t waste your life picking through a program trying to avoid someone that is the primary reason that the show exists in the first place. Like picking the peas out of fried rice – it’s just not worth it. Avoid the hatred and go watch a program/personality you can enjoy. I’m so impressed to see over one and a half million Aussies ‘putting up’ with Rove for another week, you’ve done well.

  49. Harry June 29, 2009 at 9:14 pm -

Rove is a talk/comedy show that interviews guests from all over the world. Its great, dont know how people cant think its trash.

  50. Darryn June 29, 2009 at 8:37 pm -

    Australian story was a repeat.

  51. Goonies June 29, 2009 at 6:52 pm -

@ Will – I will mouth off at the terrible quality of Rove all I like.

It is a load of tripe and I never watch an episode from woah to go because it is so poor. I tape guests I am interested in and fast forward everything else, which usually includes half the guest itself because of the shocking interview style.

I thought this was a tv website where all opinions could be aired as long as they were not offensive.

    So there!

  52. Dino June 29, 2009 at 6:52 pm -

Will. do I sense a man crash, or are you just a delusional Rove fan?

I don’t mid Rove, but I rarely watch anymore. I did however tune in purely for Bruno last night.

  53. Matt June 29, 2009 at 6:51 pm -

how does rove go over by 20-30mins when its prerecorded?

  54. Will June 29, 2009 at 6:16 pm -

@ Goonies (and others): Please quit mouthing off about people only watching Rove for the special guests and Rove himself being practically unwatchable. That’s a load of tripe. There is no way that people would “put up” with a host that they supposedly detest, just to see a glimpse of a special guest they like. With a ‘Tonight Show’ format like Rove’s, it is all about the host. Of course, the special guests provide a bump in ratings due to people making special time to view a ‘one-off’ that they can’t see on any other week, but your arguments about people effectively ‘putting up with Rove’ to sample guests is a load of cr*p. Rove has been on TV for years, is constantly winning his timeslot for the targeted demographic, and wins favourite host Logies time after time. So give it a rest. If he is personally not your cup of tea, no problem: don’t watch. And don’t waste other people’s time by mouthing off negatives about someone that shouldn’t be registering on your pain scale if you think that way about him. Find someone else to support, give it a go yourself, or just change the channel – if all these supposed haters did exactly that, we might see a change in Rove’s fortunes….but something tells me it wouldn’t make any difference to his high popularity.

  55. Andrew B June 29, 2009 at 4:59 pm -

Yes, 10 would be mad to mess with Sunday night. Leave the scheduling changes and mess ups to 7 and 9 – who will have a hard time keeping up with 10 as the last 3 weeks of Masterchef air.

  56. Darryn June 29, 2009 at 4:56 pm -

It gets even stranger seeing as they promoted merlin at 6 next week, no mention of “the making of”. Sleight of hand i gather, pun intended. Hope it gets the audience it deserves.

  57. tide June 29, 2009 at 4:51 pm -

I watched Masterchef last night and saw Chris present to the judges three brown beef mince rolls each on it’s own cabbage leaf. It looked like someone had just done their business in a garden patch. The look on the judges’ faces said it all. I guess it proves the old proverb true that you shouldn’t sh*t and eat at the same table.

I then watched Rove because they promo’ed Bruno the gay Austrian fashionista and Kevin Rudd being on the same show. Here are some of my recaps and observations:

Highlight was when Bruno got Rove to wear a skin-tight beige knitted bodysuit, complete with realistic knitted genitalia – ladies of oz, a new knitting project has arisen!

According to Kevin Rudd, the Labor staffer who booked him to appear on Rove the same night as Bruno is now in therapy. The most interesting thing I learnt about K Rudd last night is that he is a Twitter man. Who knew that our PM likes a bit of Twitter? Incidentally, is the proper noun for a Twitter fan a Twit?

Carrie Bickmore was brilliant as usual reading the most outrageous news headlines with a straight face. Pete Heliar gave knew meaning to the term toilet humour when he profiled a device known as The Comfort Wipe. You’ll have to search the internet as to it’s exact purpose but if you’ve bought one please do share your experiences. Matt Preston’s denial in French that wearing a cravat made him look pretentious was fantastique.

  58. David Knox June 29, 2009 at 3:56 pm -

Not quite. It’s a “Secrets Behind Merlin” special at 6. The ep airs as usual at 6:30pm.

  59. Goonies June 29, 2009 at 3:53 pm -

Yes Nick, which is what I was pointing out – no need to be rude about it, if you had read all the posts you would notice that people seem to be praising Rove for the ratings increase when it actually has nothing to do with him personally.

I don’t know why you wasted your time with such an irrelevant, pi**y remark really.

  60. Darryn June 29, 2009 at 3:51 pm -

    @nick
10 aren’t going head 2 head with dwts next week instead merlin starts at 6. Surprised & wary that they would meddle with a settled line up.

  61. Nick June 29, 2009 at 3:10 pm -

obviously Goonies, otherwise Rove would have gotten figures like that all year. Duhh.

  62. Goonies June 29, 2009 at 2:45 pm -

To everyone saying ‘oh wow isn’t Rove getting good’ – No he isn’t, his humour and presentation has stayed exactly the same, what changes is the popularity of guests he has on, hence last nights higher ratings because Bruno and Matt Preston where on.

That is why people tune in, not because of Rove’s comic genius.

  63. Nick June 29, 2009 at 2:07 pm -

    wat do mean darryn?

Absolutley astonishing ratings for Ten, how good is it to see the underdog do so well. Two new shows dominating their slots, and old Rove who would once sit on around 700 k at a 9.30 slot, now doing 1.5 mil. Shows that when there is decent content worth watching people will

  64. Darryn June 29, 2009 at 1:05 pm -

Why is 10 already in a panic over dwts?

  65. gros June 29, 2009 at 12:23 pm -

wow, rove is rating amazingly. even though i can’t stand the guy, good for ch 10!
and masterchef on fire as usual lol

  66. David Knox June 29, 2009 at 12:19 pm -

Loser’s preliminary figure includes about 30 mins of Rove.

  67. Harry June 29, 2009 at 12:05 pm -

A solid win for TEN. Masterchef and Rove rated absolutely crazily and great to Merlin get that number, it was some episode last night. Even Loser managed to gain .3k from weeks back. Well Done TEN.

  68. Jed June 29, 2009 at 11:56 am -

At 8.30 i wanted to watch Bones not a sneak peak of Surf Patrol. It shouldn’t be in the ratings, no one chose to watch it we were forced to because we wanted to watch Bones.

Bruno was hilarious, still don’t find Rove funny though. Pity a lot of Bruno’s jokes have already been done. It was a staged interview would have been better had it been unscripted.

  69. Christopher June 29, 2009 at 11:21 am -

Bruno wasn’t that great when you’d watched him on Conan a few days earlier doing 80% of the exact same jokes, just changing a few references to make sense to Aussies. Movie should be hilarious, but after you’ve seen him do one interview you’ve seen them all.

  70. ryan June 29, 2009 at 11:14 am -

wow, go ten!! rove was hilarious last night! it was so funny seeing him trying to get away from bruno and falling off stage!! those numbers would be cause of bruno and matt preston, masterchef viewers would have wanted to stay tuned to see him. merlin gained on last week, ten news on the weekend is embarassingly short and had poor numbers.

  71. Steve June 29, 2009 at 10:56 am -

How come Bruno didn’t get to stay for the rest of the show? Did Kevin Rudd throw a tantrum and demand that Bruno not stay for the rest of the show?

  72. Ianblair23 June 29, 2009 at 10:45 am -

David, one of the city figures is missing for Dateline.

  73. angelsgal June 29, 2009 at 10:39 am -

Rutzie that was the second higest ep of Rove ever…..Well done. It was just a little behind its 2007 Premier (1.69mil) which was his 1st ever Sunday Ep and the 1st Ep after Belinda passed away. Bruno was great, very funny. MC no suprises. Rafters should help 7, but atm, ten are getting close to Rafters numbers very weeknight with MC and with Generation on Tuesday. The MC and Gen figure should wipe out Rafters, but i expect Tuesday to be alot closer than they have been.

Next Sunday will be interesting with the return of DWTS and Nines Sunday Movies. I’ll eat my words if im wrong, but i dont think DWTS will make much of an impact on Ten. MC has proven it can handle the comp, ie: TGYH and SOO. I think DWTS will do better when Idol Returns.

  74. Rob June 29, 2009 at 10:33 am -

Random Acts Of Karlness holding steady at 1.2mill, not a massive jump up on HomeMADE figures but still finishing 3rd after Sunday Night and Merlin…nasty. It’ll be really interesting to see how Dancing With The Stars shakes up that timeslot in a few weeks.

  75. Brodie June 29, 2009 at 10:27 am -

Excellent night for Ten, though those figures above do not take into account Rove’s over run – which was by about 20 minutes last night. Based on it’s actual start and finishing times, Rove actually got 1.54m viewers, The Biggest Loser US also only got 479k – not the 732k mentioned above.

  76. gerry June 29, 2009 at 10:03 am -

    Well done Nine and Ten.

Rove’s ratings certainly went up, no doubt thanks to Bruno.

I watched Merlin for the first time yesterday – don’t see what’s so good about it. I guess younger kids would like it though. To me it belongs on ABC’s new kids channel.

  77. michael*oz June 29, 2009 at 9:59 am -

Great figures for Rove, despite having the PM on……. looks like Bruno has a following…

Excellent figures for 60 minutes, too….. Good boost in figures for Weekend Today. And it looks like it’s a sad goodbye to CSI…..

SN and Random acts look like they’re holding their own, showing there’s enough room for everyone…… all the networks should be happy.

  78. redbullboy June 29, 2009 at 9:58 am -

Huge figures for Rove – Bruno was pure comic genius last night and Rove was in his element.

  79. Rutzie June 29, 2009 at 9:58 am -

Is that the highest ratings Rove has ever gotten. Considering the show went through to 10pm those are awesome numbers. Seven’s lucky PTTR is back this week because Ten might just have pipped them for 1st place this week.

  80. George June 29, 2009 at 9:58 am -

Wow, MasterChef rated crazily once again, and Rove got 1.6 mil! Last night’s episode was hilariousand that number was well deserved. :) Great to see he’s making a comeback after some pretty low ratings last year and this year.

Good to see Nine’s lineup is now faltering. Soon I reckon they’ll drop to third place on Sundays.
