Hot Seat tonight gave away its biggest cash prize since its launch, when contestant Evan won $250,000.
It is the second biggest prize available on Nine’s game show.
With just 0.5 seconds remaining, Evan locked in the correct answer to the question: “The word ‘volar’ describes which surface on the human body: face, back, palms, shins?”
The correct answer was palms.
An elated Evans, and an equally elated Eddie McGuire, were showered with tinsel as Evan’s wife Rachel joined him at centrestage.
“It’s amazing,” said the dumbstruck champ. “Life got great when we had the kids, and this is just icing on the cake.”
McGuire added, “Mate this is what the Aussie dream’s all about.”

Numberwang is a hoot. Yes tend to agree Eddie often says “take your time, have another look” when they are off the mark.
I’m quite enjoying the show, though. Eddie says “are you sure?” only when he knows the answer is wrong … it must be the pressure in the hot seat, but when you’re watching it on TV you can always tell when he’s giving the contestant a bit of a second chance to get it right.
This series has produced some worthwhile real-life emotion, such as the other day when the $100,000 answer was “Vanuatu” and the poor bugger really needed his life changing, and he had a lifelong association with Vanuatu as his lifesaver. He switched answer at the last second, too.
Quite enjoying it … bring it on. Far more satisfying than that other chance-based game on Channel 7 … it’s just dumb luck. There’s a UK sketch that makes fun of it: Do a Google video search for “Numberwang” to see what I mean.
exactly knowfirst once the contestant says lock it in Eddie should look it in immediately!
The Aussie dream? Really? I’d imagine winning large amounts of money is a ‘dream’ around the world.
0.5 seconds my arse. Memo to Eddie. When a person says “lock in” – STFU and don’t say another word!!!
He had it locked in with 3 seconds to go, but Eddie again asked “are you sure” and the person again said “lock in”.
Eddie is the one causing the problems. Tell him to STFU when a person first says “lock in” and there would be no more timing problems.
Deal has done the same…
Andrew, this has been the case since the show premiered. Hot Seat almost always begins around 5 minutes before its scheduled time.
good on him
They played it uncut, it ran to 6.05… be interesting to see if the news benfited from it
My EPG said that hot seat begins at 5.30 but it actually started at 5.23.
