Abdul in doubt for American Idol

So far Paula Abdul's manager doesn't have any offer from American Idol producers for her to return as a judge for the next series.

paula-abdulLast week American Idol‘s Ryan Seacrest secured a breathtaking $45m deal with FOX to stay on the show for another three years.

But has it come at the expense of curent judge Paula Abdul, or are Idol producers looking to shake up the show?

“Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on Idol, ” David Sonenberg, Abdul’s manager, told the L.A Times.

So far Sonenberg doesn’t have an offer from FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment, the show’s production companies

“I find it under these circumstances particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful,” he said. “I find it kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful that they haven’t stepped up and said what they want to do.”

Abdul has attracted much comment for both her on-camera and off-camera behaviour.

In the June issue of Ladies Home Journal, she reveals her struggle to kick a secret, 12-year painkiller habit, though she says she never shot an Idol episode under the influence.

For his part, Seacrest also produces such shows as E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians and an upcoming Jamie Oliver reality series.

Representatives for FremantleMedia, 19 and FOX have made no comment on the Abdul speculation.

  1. What a waste of money on Seacrest. He brings less to American Idol than Sarah Wilson does to MasterChef AU. I highly doubt that changing an inconsequential host like him would affect ratings much either way — he’s hardly a draw.

  2. She will be gone…FOX would have hit this rumour on the head immediately if it wasnt true…id expect a joint media release from FOX and Abduls camp in the next few days..auditions are due to start very soon I believe..

  3. I want her to stay.
I like the four judges, but I think I like Kara better than Paula to be honest.
But I wouldn’t want to miss Abdul and Cowell’s closeness ahahaha

  4. Well I think when Kara signed up last season it was always assumed Paula would soon get her marching orders. And I think it would be absolutely right to keep Kara and ditch Paula next year, whether they have three judges or four.
