Chefs a master at media
You have to hand it to the producers at MasterChef. They’ve managed to coach their contestants perfectly in media quotes that don’t belie the fact they have already recorded the finale.
Poh Ling Yeow told the Daily Telegraph: “It’s a really surreal feeling to be in the final – the success of the show has just been so overwhelming.”
Having filmed it last week, she did well not to be speaking in past tense. Even if she may have already been defeated (and that remains to be seen), she still talks it up enthusiastically. It follows weeks on the show of verbalising feelings of being ‘in the moment’ in conversations recorded post-challenge. They are clearly used to going back and remembering how they felt at the time.
It followed Justine Schofield’s chats to media after being eliminated from the show not letting slip that she had returned to the contest.
Meanwhile Julie Goodwin has defended her selection in the final two, following the elimination of Chris Badenoch, who has publicly said she dodged bullets on the show.
“I definitely think people underestimated me from start to finish, but I was fine by that,” she said.
“As far as Chris is concerned, he’s welcome to his opinion, and he isn’t backward in expressing it. He’s a competitive individual.”
Yesterday the show was alive in conversations on talkback radio, on websites and in media. The show is rocketing to its finale, tomorrow night.

chris the way you present yourself is the way the dishes came out…sulken..moody uninspiring…doggy , hariy, disgusting, filthy, overdone and overgrown…need i go on……..no one should let you in the kitchen with all that hair and all that attitude…….i would have shot myself if you won masterchef
The two finalists are basically the two who didn’t stuff up as much in the final week. The pressure got to all the contestants and none of them produced their best in the final week of competition. Are the best two cooks from the series in tonights final? I dont believe so. Justine and Chris should be in the finale, but they cracked. My heart says Julie, my head says Poh.
Julie really is deluded, and definitely overestimating her performance in the final week, in particular, if she really believes she deserves her place in the final… IMO, she cooked like a hopeless hack through most of the final week, and should have been eliminated instead of Lucas… Gooo Poh, definitely a worthy MasterChef winner!
…
this maybe a clue to who won….Julie came into my shop at Erina Fair and she had a trolley load of brand new expensive cooking equipment…so she might have won, (altho she did buy a Margaret Fulton cookbook so I’m not sure.
Chris’s dish of beef cheeks looked like a dogs dinner! pretty much how he presents. Julie has no time management skills but hey! Wasn’t it all about the taste on the plate? To Chris-get a life, get a haircut, get rid of that tatty hat!
No, even media strategies have changed on this one.
I assumed media interviewed in sync with the actual recording, and just embargo’d their knowledge/comments until it matched up.
We also noticed the absence of Sandra. Maybe she was somewhere educating Australia which she told us constantly was her ultimate goal.
Go Julie
You could tell by the body language when they were on 10 news last night which of them had won. Won’t say more than that!
With so many contestants and not one slip up, that’s pretty impressive.
Anyone else notice how on Friday night’s final Master Class show, Chris was hardly seen on camera? He sat on the end of the back row. Each time a wide shot of the past contestants was shown, he was “cut off”. I think I briefly saw his face 3 or 4 times.
Where was Sandra last night? Conspicuously absent…..
