CSI: casting update

Out: Lauren Lee Smith. Back: Jorja Fox.

jfCSI’s lab is getting another staff shake up.

CSI Riley Smith (Lauren Lee Smith) is not returning for the series’ 10th season.

It seems that Riley, who was introduced last season as a replacement for Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), just wasn’t meshing well with the rest of the cast.

So, Jorja Fox is returning for five episodes of the series’ upcoming 10th season, reprising her role.

“We’re thrilled for Jorja’s return to CSI,” said showrunner Carol Mendelsohn. “The viewers and longtime CSI fans will be excited to discover where life has taken Sara Sidle and what brings her back to the CSI team in Las Vegas in our premiere episode.”

But there are no immediate plans for William Petersen, whose character had a romantic relationship with Sara, to return for more episodes.

  1. Not overly fussed with Lauren Lee Smith leaving – maybe it there hasn’t been much development of her character or not fitting in with the team as well. On the other hand I do love the addition of Fishbourne in terms of recent additions to CSI.
As much as I am a fan of Jorja and her character I was a little concerned when I first read the title as I believed her story arc has been completed…and without Peterson / Grissom returning it would be also ruin his farewell. Was relieved to read it for five episodes so will wait an see and enjoy having Jorja back on seen…when Nine finally get around to screening it.

  2. I think Sarah Sidle’s arc is complete despite Jorja being great for CSI. Seems like a ratings grab. Riley was nothing special so her departure is no surprise. They flirted with the idea of Wendy moving out of the lab, but she and Hodges work well together in there. They need another young woman. Back in 2007 Jessica Lucas’ (Cloverfield) CSI character who was learning under Sarah during the day shift would have been a good choice but I think that actress has signed up for Melrose Place so she’s probably not available.

  3. Bringing Jorja’s character back just seems contrived, how are they going to explain that?

If they needed another female CSI why don’t they just promote the Wendy character from the lab. I think in one episode they even hinted that this was a possibility.
