Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150

Heads up Doctor Who fans, here's Peter Cushing in the title role in a 1966 movie buried in your Guide.

PeterCushing_DoctorWho2Sometimes there are curious little entries buried in your TV guide you could easily miss.

Nine has the 1966 feature film Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 which stars Peter Cushing as the Doctor.

It was the second of 2 films that are retellings of previous Doctor Who TV episodes, re-made with a larger budget, however there are many structural differences. In the two films the Doctor is human and “Who” is his actual surname.

The film didn’t win good reviews and only played in Australia for about a week or two.

It airs at 2am Sunday August 16th (Saturday night) on Nine.

  1. Just a heads-up to people who’ve only seen the TV episodes (and I mean the old ones as well as the new ones): These movies don’t fit in to the series very well, or even feel like the series (which, I concede, “feels” very different from decade to decade anyway).

  2. aaahhhhhh…. Peter Cushing. A highlight of our recent hol in England was tracking down Bray Studios (where heaps of Hammer films were made in the 60s and 1970). Mrs Point couldn’t understand my excitement when I exclaimed “I’ve stood at the same gate Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee walked through!!!!!” The security guard just smiled – he’d seen and heared all this before from Hammer-fans-standing-at-the-gate! Of course, the 2 Dr Who movies Cushing made were for Hammer’s rival, Amicus.

  3. I remember this from it’s original release. I won tickets on a Channel 7 show. Can’t exactly remember but it might have been The Happy Show.

  4. Thanks so much. I remember watching this on vhs a decade ago, and the movie has far too much dalek speak! Less is more, but still a fun movie.

  5. Thanks so much for the heads up on this David.

I don’t have this in my collection and can’t wait to watch it with the kids… at a more reasonable hour.

  6. Hey David, Its actually Dalek Invasion 2150 not 2510 – Both Peter Cushion Dalek movies are favourites of mine. Its a real shame Peter Cushing is not recognised in the official Doctor Who series. Its so weird to watch a movie supposedly set in the future but quite eerily very 1960’s in look. The real star of this movie was Bernard Cribbins who plays the policeman and he also appears in the current Dr Who series as Catherine Tates grandfather. Look out for the “sugar puffs cereal” product placements on billboards as this company sponsered the movie.

  7. Nice spot, David. For us fact fans we know it’s actually 2150 A.D.! 😉

Bernard Cribbins is in it, who many of us have seen play Donna’s Grandad Wilf in Doctor Who.
