Jeff Goldblum watches Today’s obituary

By David Knox on July 1, 2009 / Filed Under News 24

jeffgoldblum“Wow, gee I guess I really am dead.”

That’s what Jeff Goldblum said when he watched a report of his death from the Today show, played during an appearance this week on The Colbert Report.

Colbert played a report by Richard Wilkins announcing that “NZ police are saying that that is a correct story.”

A surprised Goldblum added: “Stephen I owe you an apology.”

He then launched into his own obituary: “No one will miss Jeff Goldblum more than me. He was not only a friend and a mentor -but he was also me. Jeff Goldblum’s performances combined the muscularity of Brando, the pathos of Streep and the musky sensuality of a pride of baboons.”

“When Jeff Goldblum passed away a little bit of all of us died. I will be missed. Especially Sundays at 9pm on Law and Order: Criminal Intent on USA Network.

Host Stephen Colbert had refused to believe the news Goldblum was alive, insisting he heard the concrete news on Twitter. “I saw a tweetening of the most tragic thing I have ever entwattered.”

Finally saw most of the Richard Wilkins clip on Mediawatch.
Everyone at Nine looks like a tool over this.
Karl appeared to be laughing and joking his way through it too.
Staggering bit is “if Richard wilkins” is such an entertainment expert and his mate Richard Reid is one too – how on earth did they go to air without checking.
And then to joke bout an apology or we got it wrong is just bad taste,
Richard wilkins , your time is up.

I saw the clip on Today Tonight this evening and it was so funny.

It must have been funny to learn about your death.

Richard (and his producers) was obviously to lazy to do any checking. That’s why an hour after it was being called a hoax he was still running it.

Since when does a real news story cite “New Zealand Police” it’s always the city/town.

    Has been…

The Today Show team should invite Jeff to go to Australia and be in their show ASAP – all expenses paid!!!

Instead of being too embarrassed about the situation, why not embrace it with open arms and have a big laugh Aussie Style with Jeff in the show. It’d be great to see this! I’d watch the Today Show if this ever happens!

Has Richard been on the today show since firday. I thought i read somewhere that he hasn’t been on air and they were saying is because of this

Did anyone see on Rove last sunday when they played the clip that Richard did for Michael Jackson’s 50th birhtday and they replayed it last Friday on today.. At the end of the clip Richard finishes by saying can’t wait to see what he does next or something like that. So he needs to check these things out before he reveals it. On Sunrise they didn’t announce Jacko’s death until they actually confirmed it. They kept saying we are getting reports he has passed away but they actually wanted to confirm it first.

The clip was os funny. This is why Richards Wilkins is known as a tool and an idiot.

Didn’t Richard Wilkins break on Today a few years back that Sydney lost the right to host the Olympics (a Triple J April Fool’s day prank).

How many times can you break a fake story before you get the boot?

That was hilarious – I love Jeff Goldblum! Richird Wilkins however is such an absolute idiot. What a fool. I hope he is completely embarrassed.

  14. Craig July 1, 2009 at 1:50 pm -

    LMAO

Does anyone have that to DL and keep?

I wonder if the next time he’s in Australia if he’ll be on Today or Sunrise?

Goldblum appeared on The Colbert Report twice last week to be generally funny and to plug his show. Which makes this week’s appearance even funnier.
The rumour didn’t concern me on the day because of his spots on Colbert. I knew Goldblum was in New York, not New Zealand.

Lol. That was a great video.

  19. Benno July 1, 2009 at 11:42 am -

By New Zealand Police, Wilkins obviously meant Twitter. I can’t believe so many people believe everything they read on that site.

  20. Camo July 1, 2009 at 11:37 am -

sensational performance…now lets get him on the Today show hanging it on Wilkins…i notice karl stayed awfully quiet in that clip they played

  21. Ryan July 1, 2009 at 11:34 am -

Today were struggling for content, hence why Lisa asked Richard how tall Jacko was when Richard met him Haha. If anyone listened to Triple J on the afternoon of Jackos death Dools drive program was giving Nine & Today alot of cr@p. Was very funny.

    This gold, a good laugh.

He craps all over Sunrise and their wannabes.

    Gold.

lol. Wilkins is now a worldwide nob. I don’t think he’ll ever live this down, and his entertainment reporter street cred is now in the gutter.
