Push for Hey Hey revival

Whilst fans lament the absence of Hey Hey its Saturday, how realistic is is to hope for more than a reunion?

heyheyDaryl Somers has not ruled out a return to Hey Hey its Saturday to television, following a social networking campaign to return the show.

Last year Nine held talks with Somers to host a reunion special, after Foxtel was talking with him.

Today Somers tells the Herald Sun, “”There have been talks with David Gyngell and Michael Healy about a reunion show. You’ll certainly know about it if it happens.”

Those talks date back to at least September. But a reunion show is about the most that could probably happen.

The idea of the cast actually re-forming for regular work is, alas, about as likely as reuniting a pop band that made fabulous music together on-stage and were splintered by egos off-stage.

As a sentimental one-off, with a few key members, it just might work.

Otherwise Somers would be better utilised hosting a clip special once again or looking at new projects.

  1. Honestly, for me since hey hey was axed 10 years ago i cant actually sit down and watch tv on a saturday night. there is no show that can come close to the format of variety that hey hey once had and i feel something should fill the void. i feel that television on a saturday night is boring unless the footy is on. i feel a one off episode would show nine that this format could work again. if not then i think replays of as many episodes would be good! one sentimental day in november would be good if the one off were to happen.

  2. Hey Hey belongs in the 90s along with Hey Dad and Don “hooroo” Burke, most Australians have outlived that era. Getaway and Funniest Home Videos are being squeezed to their very last drops.

  3. i hope it come’s back on i used to watch it every saturday night then went to the club with the guys and then we would all laugh and talk about the funny stuff that wat was on

  4. agree with Michael. It would be great to have a Saturday night variety show, but not Hey Hey or Daryl Somers. Would love to see someone like Tim Campbell host.

  5. @ matt ..that would be great! But I’d prefer FTA.

And yes Youtube has tons of old Hey Hey clips still as funny as ever! I’m going to download them all and burn them.

Not sure if a new Hey Hey would work as it wouldn’t be the same as our much beloved classic but some kind of new variety show for sat nights could work.
