Returning: The Amazing Race

By David Knox on July 10, 2009 / Filed Under Programming 34

amazingrace14Phil Keoghan and his team of aggressive racers take to their next race from 7:30pm Thursday July 23rd.

The fourteenth season of  The Amazing Race will include five teams of family members, four couples who are married or dating, and two teams of friends.

In addition to their first-ever deaf contestant (23yo college graduate Luke Adams), the cast also includes flight attendants, stuntmen, cheerleaders and a gay father/activist and his screenwriter son, who wrote School of Rock and Year of the Dog.

And it even included a scene with Phil in his underwear. Anything for that Emmy nomination, eh?

This series aired in the US in February.

9:30pm It would have been up against the Footy Show

  2. David Knox July 15, 2009 at 1:15 pm -

Yes I’ve seen Luke’s post-show comments. There are at least 3 ‘gay-ish teams’ this season, but only one identified. But probably four if you ask me!!!

  3. Rod July 15, 2009 at 1:06 pm -

Not the first deaf competitor. A competitor on the Amazing Race Asia was the first deaf competitor in The Amazing Race franchise. Interestingly, though, there have been complaints from the deaf participant that he wasn’t allowed to express that he also happens to be gay, because producers already had a ‘gay’ team. Interesting little snippit in passing.

Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of the teams for the new series on aussie tv next week!
    Thanks :)

Not only is the writer of School of Rock here, but he acted in it too! David you should’ve mentioned that!! :P

For all those who watched it, ‘Ned Schneebly’ is in the race!! :D

Now all we need is a midget competitor and an amputee competitor… Oh wait we’ve ticked those boxes… Ok I think we’re up to the transvestite nun… ;-)

  7. Jarran July 11, 2009 at 1:53 pm -

@Adam. No they didn’t come to Australia. They do go to NZ though

  8. tai July 11, 2009 at 1:48 am -

    @KT
    No it isn’t in HD.

  9. Kylie July 10, 2009 at 11:39 pm -

    Absolutely love TAR!

But what a shock – a team of Blonde Girls!!!!!

  10. Cindy July 10, 2009 at 7:24 pm -

Yes!!! And it’s on during prime time as well!

  11. Ianblair23 July 10, 2009 at 7:10 pm -

Yes, excellent. Fantasic news!! This has made my day.

  12. Azmond July 10, 2009 at 6:18 pm -

thank goodness! Amazing Race is probably the only US show that I watch on aussie TV.

  13. Adam July 10, 2009 at 3:46 pm -

I think they came to adelaide….

  14. Paull July 10, 2009 at 2:58 pm -

730 was always a bit too early for me, I normally forget to tape it.

@KT: If this season is in HD, then how could it be in 4:3 as opposed to 16:9, unless they decided to cut off the sides.

  15. Jas July 10, 2009 at 1:05 pm -

Woohoo. Already seen it also but I’ll watch again, as it was a fantastic season. The Russian legs are the best.

  16. Nate July 10, 2009 at 1:04 pm -

    @ Daniel.

Nope. It aired in the States in 4:3

  17. Daniel July 10, 2009 at 11:55 am -

Is this one in at least widescreen? >_>

  18. Tepee July 10, 2009 at 11:48 am -

Finally! And thank goodness it’s 7:30 Thu and not 8:30.

  19. KT July 10, 2009 at 11:46 am -

This season is really good. I will be watching again, and not just for Phil in his undies! They’ve tweaked the filming/editing style (including updated credits) and it’s done in HD now, so it looks absolutely fantastic. Some of the scenes are breathtaking.

Why oh why can’t people use Search and / or Tag functions readily available to help me help you?

Reality check: Where are Survivor and Amazing Race?

  21. Morphane July 10, 2009 at 11:30 am -

It’s about time Survivor was screened. Why oh why can’t somebody at this site investigate this matter?

  22. David Knox July 10, 2009 at 11:28 am -

    Dino: no.

  23. Jed July 10, 2009 at 11:15 am -

I saw the ad for the first time last night and got excited. Great thats it got a 7.30 timeslot also. What will be following it at 8.30 when Grey’s finishes? One of those terrible new shows??

  24. Dino July 10, 2009 at 11:13 am -

    Excellent news.

Is there any chance it will be a double ep premiere? I noticed nothing has been announce for the 8.30 slot yet, with Grey’s vacating it the week before.

  25. Daniel July 10, 2009 at 10:49 am -

    7.30pm timeslot WOO!

    Can’t wait :D

  26. timmy July 10, 2009 at 10:24 am -

@ Nathan: won’t matter whether we watch it or not, it’s the people with the people-meters who ultimately decide the fate of shows.

And like Gerrard, I’ve already seen it. Seven takes waaaaay too long.

  27. NiK C July 10, 2009 at 10:05 am -

I have to agree with Zambora. It is long overdue. Good to see thgat it is in the Competitive timeslot of 7.30 Thursday’s. It will be interesting to see how it competes with Ch9 Getaway.

  28. Brodie July 10, 2009 at 9:58 am -

Better late than never. Excellent timeslot, I never thought it suited the 9.30 (or later) timeslots.

  29. Nathan July 10, 2009 at 9:49 am -

Now to keep it at 7.30, we all better watch it guys! No complaining if it gets bumped!!!

  30. gerrard July 10, 2009 at 9:42 am -

Already seen the season so I won’t be watching. But the season’s pretty good, just like all the other Amazing Race seasons.

@ Channel 7, stop making cheap reality TV like Beauty and the Geek, and World’s Strictest Parents, and start making good shows like this.

  31. Marco July 10, 2009 at 8:43 am -

That will be shocking to see Phil in his underwear…he always looks like he’s packing something deadly in there.

  32. Sharnra July 10, 2009 at 8:38 am -

Yahoo! Thank you channel 7….bringing the amazing race show back on!

  33. Johnson July 10, 2009 at 8:34 am -

That’s great news for TAR fans like me!

  34. Zambora July 10, 2009 at 7:56 am -

    About bloody time.
