Wednesday line-up booming at ABC

By David Knox on July 30, 2009 / Filed Under News 16

taraThe ABC’s stole a big audience last night, especially with its line up from 8:30-10pm. It was #1 for this period.

The finale of The Chaser was a perfect platform to launch United States of Tara.

The network really hit the top when Spicks and Specks took 1.49m with 1.45m of them staying to watch the Chaser team’s exit, a much bigger retention than usual.

And a mammoth 1.27m stuck around to watch Toni Collette’s chameleon performance as Tara -an especially hot result for that time of night.

The other big winner on the night was Seven’s second ep of World’s Strictest Parents, pulling in just under 1.6m.

With the ABC powering, there had to be some losers -Network TEN. It landed fourth for the evening with its News and Simpsons the best drawcards.

Meanwhile Australia’s Perfect Couple slipped further, now down to 762,000. With figures like that in that timeslot, it will have to move.

But if there is anyone who should really be happy about last night, it would surely be the team from The Librarians. It is now perfectly set up for a season return in between Spicks and Tara next week.

Absolutey loved US of Tara! Toni Collette is amazing. Wasn’t sure if hubby would like as was a bit “art house”, but he loved too! Good one ABC, was actually expecting it on Foxtel! Will be tuning in again!

Remembered United States Of Tara at last minute.
Glad I watched. Is was captivating, it was confronting, it was funny, it was serious, it was a whole lot more.
Toni Collette was superb and the supporting cast need kudos as they provide the foil.
Well done ABC on having guts to stick this on.

    @ Andrew B.
I doubt CH 7 are looking for viewers in my age group (old ) for ‘The World’s Strictest Parents’ but I am really enjoying it and will continue watch it. However it is a surprise ratings winner. At least it’s something different..

Well done ABC TV !! they have more good shows coming up shortly too……….Yeah, no Ad’s

The Librarians will have to be much funnier this time around to hold that audience…

It will definitely be interesting to see how The Librarians does next week. Clever move by the ABC to stick it between to high rating shows.

Yeah it was a great night for the ABC last night. Those who missed out and have digital or high definition tv can on ABC2 see Spicks and Specks and the Chaser finale at 8pm and 8:30pm. The premiere episode of Toni Collette’s United States of Tara is on at 9:30pm.

Any idea when the remaining era episodes of Spicks and Specks (70s, 80s, 90s) are airing?

Tara seems ok, but there’s little in its premise that’d make me want to watch more than 2 or 3 episodes. It would’ve made for a better film, not a TV series.

Tara was just amazing, addictive and I want more!!!

I can understand the success of the ABC shows, but can’t understand why so many are watching Wolrd’s Strictest Parents!
