Think you will find that was the midday repeat.
What an embarrassing drop off. The Simpsons lost almost 1 million of Masterchef’s lead-in (not helped by the utterly lame promo).
And why exactly are Ten airing House repeats? Surely even new Numb3rs or some of their other stockpiled shows would outrate those dismal figures.
Is Michael Jackson’s Memorial Concert (R) Seven 327,000, the highest rating digital-only (HD + ABC2 + One + SBS2) broadcast ever? If not, it would be pretty close wouldn’t it?
good figure for masterchef. the best and most entertaining episode of the series imo. besides from the dominance of masterchef, evreything else was distorted by the MJ specials and the ashes.
After last night’s disappointing ratings for TGYH finale (I watched it and it was funny at times, especially the Breaking Free sketch), I think Seven will move TGYH to the second half of 2010, avoiding MasterChef and Rugby League State of Origin.
“Thank God You’re Here” (on 7) ! I don’t think Channel 7 execs would be muttering those words this morning. Very disappointing run for a show they just had to have.
Good on SBS showing The Ashes, I wounder what Nine would have down if they had the rights, shove it to after midnight? Speaking of Gilmore Girls didn’t air here in QLD on WIN, we got an Ellen re-run or a repeat shown at midday!
But either way last night I was watching the other show from Cardiff… Torchwood, OMG this should have been on ABC 1 or 2 but Thank God UKTV picked it up!
The 7pm Project looks s**t! It will be a ratings disaster! All the charaters on there suck and is pretty much Rove without the idiot!
Great ratings for MasterChef, but 900k switchoff onto Simpsons is kinda worrying (though granted they would have flocked to Thank God You’re Here), but SVU and House rated pretty horrendously. Wednesday should a night for light entertainment! Leave the serious dramas for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. SVU should be moved to Thursday nights again after Rush and CI since it will probably still rate well at 10:30.
I reckon TEN will come third tonight, but scrape second place on Friday with MasterChef and the SYTYCD top 20, and then on Saturday it’s anyone’s game..
Good to see viewers switching off The Chasers.
OMG – When I looked mid-last week THIS afternoon was 307,000. Yesterday, on a big news story day, it was 207,000 – compared to 472,000 & 477,000 for 7 & 10 at 4:30 and 956,000 at 5pm
i do have to laugh at the figues for tgyh’s finale!! lol would have to be working dogs lowest figures for a tgyh ep or finale! haha
10 need to grad a fkn brain and move sv.u!! its not working obviously and if it cant hold onto any of masterchefs viewers or simpsons than its even worse!
MC continues to dominate & ironically it killed the finale of the TGYH.
@ James Grant, Could not have stated it any better re Whacko. Undoubted talent but unfortunately a froot loop who should now be allowed to RIP. The mind does boggle however at the thought of 10 filming a new series from inside the casket to replace MC at 7pm if the project fails. They could approach Ryan to host it.
Big night for SBS, thanks to the Ashes.
Ten really collapsed after a huge rating Masterchef. I think they’ll be savouring these ratings for the remaining week and a half it is on air.
As long as the consumer demands it i think the networks will keep up the Michael Jackson programs. Personally i think the memorial is done, let it be now. I watched some of his 1991 concert last night on Nine and he was an incredible entertainer, also saw some of the documentary on Seven and he was a very weirde man, but his kids seemed so normal on the documentary so he can’t have been all that bad.
Anywho…
So hope Chris goes tonight on Masterchef. Don’t like him one bit.
I’ve only ever watched Criminal Minds in off-season when nothing else was on, and i quite liked it but never watch cos Spicks and Specks is on. But cos it was on at 9 last night, i watched and what a ripper of an episode. Can someone explain the back story of the ending though? I was shocked with the finale and i didn’t even know what was going on. I think i might start watching this and taping Spicks, or vice versa.
I doubt that 7 would be happy with Thank God You’re here’s ratings. Sure, they’re not disastrous, but @ 1million an episode they’re not that great either.
In my last post I asked for a break from all the Michael Jackson hype but I suspect I chose the wrong day to issue my request…somehow I forgot about his memorial and was reminded in very blunt terms last night when I got home that Channel 7 were producing a one hour extended bulletin to cover the story plus more saturation on Today Tonight. Seven News had news crews and reporters all over the place…in side the memorial, outside the memorial, inside neverland, outside neverland!!!, I’m sure they would have had one inside Jackson’s casket if they could have gained entry.
It was just too much – and I’m sorry does an entertainer (and yes a very talented one) who stated before a global audience in his interview with Martin Bashir that yes it’s perfectly healthy for adults to sleep with children, perfectly normal to dangle your baby over a balcony and perfectly normal to change your appearance from black to white… deserve this much news attention??? I think not. I know that there is obviously widespread public interest in this guy’s death but the ABC lead with the story last night and gave it 5 minutes and that’s all it really deserved.
It was in fact on the ABC that I discovered that 2 Australian soldiers had been wounded in Afghanistan yesterday but over at Channel Seven you would never have known because all their reporteers were chasing hearses and stretched limos heading to and from Jackson’s memorial.
I have no problem covereing the Jackson Memorial and the guy was extremely talented and of course people were shocked by his death but please can we put the whole episode in context and just pull back a bit! –
.
James, probably because it was the first episode without untalented contestant Sam, who was finally, and thankfully eliminated on Monday!!!
…
Just saw a promo for The 7pm Project and it looks exactly like The Panel. I hope this is the show that kills off 2.5 Men.
The Simpsons beat both TAAHM episodes? Whoa, ouch. Nine must be worried.
@ James Grant, I agree, enough already with Michael Jackson.
totally agree: neighbours has been good lately and been pulling better numbers! home and away just sux now! boing storylines and the characters arent that good anymore
Packed To The Rafters makes Tuesdays ratings boring. Good to see MC right up there! NCIS repeats arent doing that well for TEN, at least they are pulling over the 1 mill.
highest rating tuesday masterchef ever
Next Tuesday will be interesting because Ten has a 1 hour Masterchef followed by TBYG at 8pm-9pm while Seven has the debut of Airways plus the return of Surf Patrol. I wonder if PTTR numbers might been down a bit next week.
Agree with Ellie re her comments on HomeMADE – what a waste of time and money – I don’t think any of them deserved the 100 grand but I had a real problem with just about every aspect of this show so just glad to see the end of it.
Still loving Masterchef and tonight the contestants have to cook for some of our top chefs from yesteryear including Margaret Fulton – should be a good episode.
With the final of Thank God You’re Here and another Chaser episode on the television should be a good night on the box.
And I know I will probably get slammed for this but can we now dispense with the Michael Jackson specials on morning, noon and night!!! – it’s been 2 weeks since his death and I feel like everywhere I go he’s around me – on the TV, radio, in the liftwell, in my head…please let’s just give it all a break.
The best show for the night was on UK-TV (Torchwood). I wonder what it’s numbers were? I don’t get why people watch PTTR. Must be the same people who thought Hey Dad was funny.
Tomorrow.
Good numbers for TEN and Seven, I will be very surprised if MC doesn’t come back in some form before the end of the year, they need the ratings. As for Nine left again to pick up the scraps,
David when will we get numbers on who watch which channel at 3am this morning?
just proves everyones favourite contestant is julie, we all wanted her to win against the celebrity chef
The Block could arguably top Big Brother on that front too if you looked at seasonal averages.
TEN must be thrilled with the latest figures for “Neighbours”. Only 150k separated it from “Home and Away” on Monday night, although that gap increased to about 250k last night. Still, given that last year, the gap was very often over half a million, kudos to N for increasing its audience! H & A has definitely suffered this year in the ratings, which must be a slight worry for 7.
Showboat, back in its heyday, Big Brother was a ratings phenomenon – it still wins the title of “biggest reality TV show in Australian TV history”. Survivor was a major phenomenon back in 2000, too.
Great numbers for PTTR! well deserved.
And looks like All Saints is doing well off the back of it, overall would have beaten NCIS and 20-1 (if you discount melb bc all saints wasnt shown: AS: 796,000; NCIS: 778,000; 20-1: 611,000)
I tuned into the final of homeMADE last night, keen to see who won as I occasionally watched the show over the past few months.
I have to admit I did yell out in glee when the winner was announced as I think the right person got the hundred grand. Jason is a talented designer and came across as such a nice guy, and this is what we want on TV right now if MC is anything to go by.
What however was painstakingly obvious about the show during the (very long) hour it was on was that it missed the mark on so many levels. It didn’t provide DIY ideas like “better homes and gardens”, it didn’t have the likable judges that you grew to respect that “MC” has and lastly which was probably the nail in the coffin is it just didn’t have contestants that you grew to love and barrack for.
I love reality television and I am glad that Master Chef has been a such a huge hit because no one can use the excuse that homeMADE flopped because reality is dead.
Perhaps we as viewers just aren’t prepared to accept crap reality anymore when their is so much great TV as an alternative.
RIP “Bad” reality !!
Thanks David. They are pretty good figures then for the mens final since it went to around 4:30am.
Surely MC is the biggest rating reality show ever here in Australia? I don’t remember anything having so consistently & outrageously high ratings?
2am.
I have a question, what is the cut off time of these late night programs. I am interested to know because in Mondays figures it has the night before’s figure. What time exactly does the cut off occur.
I wonder how the 7PM Project will rate after MC is finished.
nice to see merlin high on the list
great show
so is masterchef (:
Glad Masterchef has taken over Australia – now all reality haters will have to think about whats so bad about this one, theres nothing to criticize about it. Im tipping the finale to hit well over 2.2 million at least. Recruits has been a success as well.
Masterchef is killing it!!!
wow highest rating sunday masterchef ever and now highest rating monday masterchef ever!
awesomeness
Ellie – I agree with you!! Beating SP! It is getting so good – I am just wishing the season wouldn’t end. Well done DH! It was nice to see Gaby soften at the end of the episode even for 5 mins
It’s a pity Big Bang Theory is not doing better, they go from 2.5 Men at 1 mill then drop some 150k for BBT and back to 1.2 mil for Sea Patrol.
I guess before long BBT will be pushed to their 2nd SD and forgotten
9 news sydney is 200k behind 7news sydney, i wonder if recent talk about his retirement is affecting it.
can anyone tell me, is the renual of SP 100% confirmed. the only articles i’ve read say “are close to signing the papers” or something.
Sea Patrol is slipping dangerously low. There are axing rumours for All Saints with those figures, and Sea Patrol has a higher budget and skews even older.
DH overtakes SP in total people and key demos…. I am doing the happy dance all over my kitchen!!!!
Did anyone notice last night’s Today Tonight story on the whole Katie Perry vs Katey Perry saga. Today Tonight intro’d it with the Masterchef Australia logo…. Are they serious??? Just because Katy Perry sings the theme song to masterchef means nothing to the story that followed. Idiots cashing on MC’s ratings!!
Why did Nine run the PG warning over the start of Sea Patrol last night?
It’s bad enough they are cutting the credits of some prime-time shows but now not even waiting 10 seconds for the warning?
it was pretty sad actually seeing sam leave, you could tell matt was especially emotional! i though he was going to cry!! great show by the way, very hard dish to create.
DWTS just doesn’t have that sparkle it once had.
While Sonia always does an admiral job & Daniel is good eye candy, there just isn’t that “something” that Daryl & Sonia had.
The theme music is dull compared to before. The judges seem over it & it would not have hurt to overhaul the entire panel instead of only dumping Paul.
Todd, what can you say. Vile, foul mouthed & camera seeking.Should live in the states. His time is up!
Should be the last series guys. For now.
Sam’s gone!!!!……….you can dodge only so many bullets!!!………………………
Wow, Wimbledon final did very well
i would say ten did take the night harry. dont forget they are interested in their demos and ten won theirs plus the 25-54
Amazing numbers for MC and DWTS. Clearly the blind man gimmick worked, although Dancing still skews extremely old whereas MC has little interest from the over 55s and somehow is still able to manage almost 2 mill. Seven’s dramas and Merlin and Rove did well too. I’ve personally never watched Bones tho – it looks similar to NCIS and the other procedurals. Nine’s Sunday Night Movie didn’t fire, but it’s not as if a Hugh Grant rom-com is a must-see blockbuster. Although Fededer v Roddick did well.
Um didnt sydney get syd v nmelb like the rest of nsw? I know which match i would of liked 2 of seen. Big win for 7. Rove shedding 25% is not good, but expected. See no threat to 7 for the rest of the year.
7 could get a clean sweep this week if they win saturday.
Excellent result for Bones. Should stand as the number 1 American drama in this country this week.
i was one of the ones that thought DWTS would take down sevens share with bones and possibly to 3rd but boy was i wrong. those numbers are incredible. almost 300k up on last years premier and 100k above last years peak. according to 7′s report DWTS peaked at 1.96 and was only down for the MC hour so when MC is over DWTS should get even bigger. it has always grown audience as the season progresses anyway. so it could get huge.
good night for 10 as well merlin also holding it’s audience very well, MC up week on week which is good it was looking like it hit its peak about a month ago.
9, o dear. news 400k behind 7, RAOK should be doing better in the biggest slot of the week, 60 minutes almost 700k down on this time last year, and that movie, even if it did have perth it still would have come a very distant 4th.
DWTS rated well for 7, Masterchef even better for TEN. Would have liked to have seen TEN take Sunday night.
lol @ Nine, Random acts of kindness will be dumped for sure, lossing numbers every week, such a stupid show anyway.
david, you should put up a poll and see what people think masterchefs finale will get
Wow almost 2 mil for MS and TEN, I guess with is going and DWTS Seven will have Sundays for the coming months, funny how things change. It’s a pity the Merlin special didn’t rate better, maybe TEN should have pushed the Australian Exclusive part as it was not a UK special it was made for local TV, which I didn’t know until I was watching it.
ten still wins the night in 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demos!!
Nice win for Seven last night, especially in Melbourne. The footy – News – DWTS was good for them (apart from the annoying plugs for DWTS during the footy). 626,000 is an awesome figure for a footy match, and it lived up to the hype, being Melbourne’s most watched show yesterday.
i do have to say thats a great result for footy at 12.30 pm!!! lucky 7
yay go masterchef! my mum watched dwts last night and she hated it so expect numbers to fall like previous yrs
i would say an average of 1.3/1.2 in coming weeks. merlin held up well, the special didnt do so well! rove was good last night and is going gangbusters i ratings this yr! i hope ten sign him up for another season next yr!! i agree that tbl america has to go!!! they could easily put, medium, simpsons repeats, the office, or even burn notice!!!
Ten are persisting because all last year they were criticised for pulling shows. You cannot have it both ways. In any case they are experience bigger ratings than expected (budgeted).
Huge premiere for Dancing with the Stars. I thought it would bomb, but that’s actually up 200k from it’s premiere last year. I can only see those figures going up when Masterchef is gone in 2 weeks.
I also thought Bones would get screwed over by the odd start time, but it actually hit a series high last night.
Although it wasn’t prime time, those numbers for the Footy are very low given it was expected to be (and was) one of the games of the year. I’m assuming David that with the 6 numbers listed after the score this was shown in all markets?
it’s very good to see 2 shows on different network pull great numbers. that’s the type of TV we like to see. as opposed to audience splitting so that everyone loses.
i owe the 7 programmers a big apology, i thought DWTS was the worst schedualing decision ever but those numbers are great, who would’ve thought it would beat last years peak in ep1 with better competition. and over 2.5 hours 7 would have to be over the moon. also good to see bones/castle way up in last week (200k each) even though they were on later. even 24 was more than 100k up!
another great night for 10 MC sunday has been decreasing for the last month or so who would have thought it would get one of it’s highest figures when competition suddenly pops up.
and 9, what can we say about 9, their whole lineup is underperforming greatly for a sunday and i’d assume it’s worse in the demos. 60 minutes needs to have a content review it has been so cra.p this year and what’s this, the rating are way down? this is the point in the year last year where it was getting 1.8. last nights 1.1 is not good enough.
Great night for Seven and Ten, MC and DWTS taking more than half of the audience watching between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
The top of the table clash between St Kilda and Geelong posted the second highest audience for a non-finals daytime AFL game in Melbourne in 2009 (below the Anzac Day clash between Collingwood and Essendon which pulled 664,000). Shame that Seven News in Melbourne lost some of the AFL lead-in, seems to me that people don’t really like to watch Rebecca Maddern presenting news.
Good to see Castle picked up again this week
It looks like 9′s Sunday Night at the Movies experiment was a failure.
Great start for DWTS pulling 1.5million and Bones pulling 1.4million even though it started at 9pm. Maybe Seven were right to rest Sunday Night until the end of the year. Why is Ten persisting with the U.S. version of TBL. It’s affecting their Sunday share badly. Maybe Ten should give Micallef his own tonight show and have Rove and Micallef back to back like they do in the US with Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon.
Much larger premiere for DWTS than I was expecting in what was a big rating night for Seven and Ten.
