AFI honours Geoffrey Rush

Actor Geoffrey Rush was awarded the AFI's Raymond Longford Award last night in Melbourne.

rushActor Geoffrey Rush was awarded the AFI‘s Raymond Longford Award, before an industry event of 400 people last night in Melbourne.

He is only the sixth actor to receive the AFI‘s highest award since it began 41 years ago.

Rush has devoted most of his career to theatre and film including Shine, Lantana,  Harvie Krumpet, Munich and Shakespeare in Love.

He recently became the first Australian to win fthree US acting awards, the Academy Award, a Tony Award and an Emmy Award, all on his first attempt. Among a host of other awards, Rush has also won two AFI Awards, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

In television he had the lead role in the ABC’s 1996 newspaper miniseries Mercury and telemovie The Life and Death of Peter Sellers plus small roles in Kath & Kim, Twisted Tales and appearances on Spicks and Specks.

  1. Congratulations to Geoffrey Rush who is truly a magnificent character actor and my favourite Aussie. We are so lucky that he returns home to work here and help other actors.
    My own favourite was Geoffrey as Peter Sellers in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, he was magnificent!
