Airdate: The Spearman Experiment

By David Knox on August 21, 2009 / Filed Under Programming 13

magdaMagda Szubanski’s new venture with Network TEN, The Spearman Experiment, will premiere at 7:30pm Tuesday September 8th.

As expected the “pop culture” trivia show will replace Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation.

“I’m a sucker for a bit of potentially life-altering trivia,” she recently said.

“It’s going to be a slightly twisted trip down memory lane. Besides, Channel 10 are doing pretty well at the moment so I thought I’d park my bike there for a bit.”

The format sees her with guest celebrities analyse, critique and celebrate Australia’s most popular topics with 20 to 1 style clips.

Sounds a bit like Big Questions already!

Still, we heart Magda…..

Does the Spearman experiment have anything to do with Charles Spearman the psychologist and psychometrics? If so what?

Its like watching a train wreck “lovin it” all disasters are successful and poor magda she actually has to read those poor lines and stupid commentary.

This was a good show but l think the dunny guy is as funny as having a tooth pulled! What about Kingswood Countrys Ted Bullpitt, very funny!

Kath and Kim went on hiatus much like The Chaser did last year. There were apparently plans to make a new season though.

Rachel you’re a bit harsh! TV jobs are not in such abundance that entertainers can hold out for the ‘perfect’ job. Maybe she needs the money or just wants to be working. Good luck Magda.

Magda should be doing narrative comedies not clip-show bullsh*t.

I look forward to seeing her without the airbrushing.

Dylan, I reckon Bondi Rescue is fantastic! Should be great, TEN have the best hosts, great personalities.

@Jerome: Magda’s had previous attempts at hosting clip style tv shows that didn’t last long, so I wouldn’t be so confident.

What happened to kath& Kim? It seems like 7 bought the franchise only so they could kill it off. I’m sure if it’d stayed on the ABC we would’ve seen at least 1 extra season.

Can’t wait! It will fill the void of Talin’ ’bout Your Generation ending perfectly. It will be better than the other shows at that timeslot – the awful Airways, the terrible Bondi Rescue rip-off and whatever Channel Nine choose to air for one week that week.

I can almost hardly wait to miss this.

Coolio. Although TEN have had their fair share of mega-hits this year let’s not forget their misses: Guerrilla Gardeners, Worst Week etc. I like Magda though so hopefully this’ll prove successful!

    magda, pop culture, tues7:30

i’m predicting this to be a superhit (and i think so are ten) even if the content is not much of a step up from big questions or 20to1. people will watch. ten is on a roll with launching new shows.
