Bumped: So You Think You Can Dance. Gone: Go Girls

By David Knox on August 17, 2009 / Filed Under Programming 67

cat-deeleyTEN has moved on its Friday programming, following a dismal share on Friday of just 14.6%.

So You Think You Can Dance will now playout later in the evening, following an hour of The Simpsons and a movie. This week it screens Never Been Kissed at 8:30pm then Nanny McPhee and The Break Up in coming weeks.

That pushes Dance (this week with Katie Holmes) back to 10:30pm. As a result the NZ drama Go Girls is out of schedule. TEN was clearly gaining local drama points for this one, but it has to play between 5-11pm to qualify, as Out of the Blue does. Maybe it will return after Dance ends on September 4th, with Talia Fowler’s appearance.

Aug 21st
7:00pm The 7pm Project
7:30pm The Simpsons Hour
8:30pm Friday Night Movie – Never Been Kissed
10:45pm So You Think You Can Dance
1:15am Sports Tonight
1:45am The Late Show With David Letterman
2:30am Californication rpt

TEN is already fiddling with Dexter too, now out to a 9:50pm start tonight (thanks for the late notice, guys: 5pm!) with Good News Week running for 80 minutes.

Somehow through Channel 10 Adelaide’s complete stuffing around with time schedule for the final three weeks of US SYTYCD, I have now missed the finale! Not impressed! After watching the whole series 4 I missed the last episode! Ten you need to get your act together. If your going to move it, then how about letting viewers know! Ripped Off!

  2. Katie September 4, 2009 at 7:46 pm -

The bumping of SYTYCD during the finals is farcical – see ya 10.

  3. Nads September 4, 2009 at 7:02 pm -

Seriously ten! What a joke. Bumping SYTYCD when it gets to the final 8 contestants and then not advertisingthe change. Show some balls! And what makes it worse, is subjecting your viewers to more reruns of The Simpsons. Does “flogging a dead horse” mean anything to you guys. Consideration for viewers would have been a novel idea especially when there was only 3 weeks remaining for the SYTYCD season.

  4. Graham Edwards September 4, 2009 at 2:59 pm -

You have disappointed and now lost loyal supporters by changing time of ” So You Think You Can Dance’ definetely one of best programmes.

  5. Terry September 3, 2009 at 12:06 am -

    Bull**it !
My daughter and I look forward to So You Think You Can Dance all week.
channel 10 as bad as channel 9
bring on bit torrents and get rid of crap TV stations

  6. Lesley September 1, 2009 at 1:01 pm -

Very disappointed with the time change of So You Think You Can Dance but what makes it worse it was never advertised of the change! Consideration is the key.
I just thought it got bumped like Beverley Hills 90210 new seies – but hey will have Australian Idol rammed down our throats along with repeats of the Simpsons – oh what joy to look forward to , SBS is looking better by the minute!

    very disappointed viewer…….

  7. Chrissy August 29, 2009 at 5:31 pm -

Why, why, why ? Just to bump SYTYCD to not just a later slot, but to an unwatchable slot without notice is plain bad manners Ch 10! My daughter and I look forward to it all week. Last week we thought it was a programming “bleep” but here we are again this week, and nothing to look forward to and relish again. Simpsons (duh!) worn-out movies (duh!) Is everyone at chanet 10 having a brain drain?
Look after your viewers Ch10 – not to mention country to country diplomacy etc….. Perhaps America will return the compliment and bump a few Aus TV shows.
Bring back SYTYCD to a reasonable slot before its over!!!!! Duh !

  8. Sandy Samson August 28, 2009 at 8:16 pm -

What’s happened to So You THink You Can Dance? Normal slot on Friday nights????? Just when we’re into it…..You cut it!! That stinks….How can you let down your viewers like that!!!! Please bring it back to a time slot for everyone to watch, I miss it now cos it’s on toooooooo late!!!!!!

  9. andrew August 28, 2009 at 8:06 pm -

Maybe it was the patheticly weak 7PM Project that should have been bumped to a 10.30 timeslot instead of SYTYCD. The 7PM project probably has more to do with TEN’s poor Friday ratings than anything.

  10. Silburnsays August 28, 2009 at 6:19 pm -

Didnt realise til tonight that SYTYCD had been moved premanently to a later spot! I really thought it was just an almightly programming Cock-Up last week!

    Way to go TEN!

What a treat though, instead we get The Simpsons… again (hasnt that show been around for fxxxx 50 years?) and some lame movie! No wonder your ratings are going down the bleeding toilet, you treat your viewers like crap!

  11. pyrmontboy August 28, 2009 at 3:54 pm -

Channel Ten, what a farce … Why start a series and then end it – you treat your viewers like garbage. Go Girls was shaping up to be a great series, there is a lack of quality NZ tv here in Aussie. How can this be axed, and yet we still have to put up with the lamest of lame shows like ‘The 7PM Project’ .

  12. David Knox August 27, 2009 at 5:11 pm -

Go Girls is back in Sept, see separate story.

  13. Rachelyn August 27, 2009 at 5:00 pm -

Oh Ten what were you thinking, Why play the simpsons on a friday night when people wan’t to relax and watch something good.
You play Crap like that , and bump off good programs that people actually enjoy watching after a hard week at work.
Go girls is a fantastic series that i caught a glimpse of in NZ and was excited to see it make our screens here.
    Seriously 10.
    Fail.

  14. Cathy Laing August 25, 2009 at 12:45 pm -

Spare a thought for families (who are over the Simpsons) and the elderly (to whom SYTYCD certainly appeals) who could not sit until 1.15 a.m. to see the finale of the show. Spare a thought also to the poor young fellow at Channel 10 who I spoke to and who must have copped a tongue lashing over the phone on Friday night. It would have been fairer had one of the Channel 10 Execs stayed back to field some of those angry calls. Bring back the Dance to the 7.30 timeslot!

  15. Karen Blakemore August 24, 2009 at 1:47 pm -

Please bring back SYTYCD at a reasonable hour. That and Go Girls were the only two programs worth watching all week. I had to ring Channel 10 on Friday night to find out what was happening only to get a poor young guy that seemed to be overwhelmed by the amount of calls he was getting and couldn’t give a reason for the shift in program times. Channel 10 – You’ve lost us all. Never did watch your channel very often anyway but will not bother going back there again. I will stick with good old ABC for some entertainment.

  16. Alison August 24, 2009 at 12:27 pm -

Bring back Dance at the earlier time slot! So rude when Ten changes this with no notice – the one show my sister and I liked to stay home for…

  17. Carol August 24, 2009 at 12:10 pm -

I am so annoyed with Channel 10 for moving SYTYCD to 10.40 at night.
I loved Friday nights after a hard week at work. Watching this show is amazing and I, like many others are wondering who controls the ratings. Who are these people and where are they? Myself and my friends couldn’t believe it when the Simpsons came on followed by an old boring movie. Surely that would not have rated higher. Wake up Channel 10 and stop messing with the people who keep the TV stations going – The Viewers.

  18. Alana August 23, 2009 at 2:03 pm -

Fail on Channel 10′s behalf. SYTYCD was something that a lot of people look forward to every week. You only have to look in the Contact Us section of the Channel 10 forums to see how many people are annoyed and angry about this programme change.

Besides, who needs to see anymore Simpsons in their week. We get atleast 1 show a day, most of them reruns, and if you have foxtel…you get more episodes of the simpsons than most people can handle. The Simpsons aren’t nearly as good at promoting a healthy lifestyle as SYTYCD. Dance also promotes following your dreams, something teens and little kids need to follow.

I won’t be watching Channel 10 anymore. I’ll Youtube the new shows.

  19. Donna August 22, 2009 at 10:09 pm -

The very least Ten could have done was advertise that they had moved SYTYCD. This was one show my daughter and I looked forward to sitting down together on a Friday night and watching. I loathe the Simpsons. It isn’t television for kids at all and shouldn’t be aired in its current timeslots. Luckily I have the option of switching off – and I do!

  20. Richard W August 22, 2009 at 5:53 pm -

I enjoyed Go Girls as well, and I’m a non-Kiwi.

  21. ayla August 22, 2009 at 2:04 pm -

not a good move bumping so you think you can dance… the highlight of our week.. we will watch nothing on tv now….

  22. kathleen murphy August 22, 2009 at 2:03 pm -

cannot believe that SYTYCD got bumped myself and many many of my friends put aside friday night going out etc..to watch this show… cannot believe it was not more widely advertised…. very rude of Ch 10 ..for those of us who only watch this show on TV …. very disappointing.. so now we watch nothing at all … guess we will just go out…

  23. Xanthe August 21, 2009 at 9:41 pm -

Bring back the back to back SYTYCD-Go Girls! It was my favourite part of the TV week!

  24. Lora August 21, 2009 at 7:42 pm -

I am really disappointed that Dance has been moved to a later slot. I am not a Simpsons fan nor interested in gardening or decorating tips.

  25. franz chong August 19, 2009 at 1:57 pm -

This is where the problem lies. Most of the target Audience for SYTYCD and Go Girls are either working or go out with family or friends on Friday Nights and Yes most of Australia has late night Friday Shopping. Then theres the 13 to 30 somethings who go to Church but thats another classification

  26. Stan August 18, 2009 at 7:31 pm -

Oops! Let me take back what I said about Southern Cross Ten. It looks like they’re following Network TEN all through the night. That’s good news for regional Letterman fans…

  27. Ben August 18, 2009 at 6:12 pm -

Why do commercial channels never give NZ dramas/comedies a chance? This isn’t the case with kiwi ob-docs. Could anyone really believe that Neighbours at War is better viewing than Go Girls of Outrageous Fortune. These shows really could be ratings success, but are put on too late and not advertised so it is no wonder they fail to find substantial audiences. Stuff you, Ten.

  28. franz chong August 18, 2009 at 4:29 pm -

They never went ahead with the plan for an extended bulletin for news over at Channel 10.

Parents with Young Children would be outraged. It was bad enough losing Taken Out and Putting Bold on at 6pm last year over the summer now that.

Besides with that 7pm Project Now would they really need to put in an extra thirty minutes at 6pm.

  29. Harry August 18, 2009 at 3:55 pm -

Good decision by TEN, that show rated so low it just wasnt funny anymore! Dont mind the Simpsons though, at least it helps TEN a little in the ratings department. US Loser/Dance clearly dont work. Go Girls should get the hour spit before Idol on Sundays. Might do well with a few decent promos…

  30. Kylie August 18, 2009 at 12:53 pm -

When will all the networks realise that in this age of the internet, they can’t be showing Reality competition shows weeks or months after they begin in the US?? I know that everything can’t be shown, but the major popular shows like Survivor, TAR and Dance should be shown as close to the US premiere’s as possible.

You don’t even have to specifically go looking for who won or who was eliminated as somewhere, on some page, it will name names.

People will find ‘other means’ of watching these shows before our networks show them, so we see the winner as the US does, and then wonder why the shows don’t rate when they finally air them!

If the Average Joe (me) can understand this, why can’t the Heads of Programming??

  31. Hu August 18, 2009 at 12:22 pm -

Australian TV sucks. These programmers surely have no idea.

  32. Jason August 18, 2009 at 10:31 am -

Had to sit through Go Girls last friday and it was rather dull. I’d rather more Outrageous Fortune than that again so it wont be missed by me. And i’ll certainly settle for simpsons repeats over more reality tripe. Free to air is pretty much all i watch for repeats now and it suits me just fine.

  33. John August 18, 2009 at 10:03 am -

Friday evening Simpsons hour is always welcomed by me.

  34. ozinoz August 18, 2009 at 9:28 am -

Commercial television in Australia – the only place where if you cant see a program live, you need to record 2 hours to hopefully capture a 60 minute program. Only the 2nd episode of Dexter and they are buggering about with it.

  35. NiK C August 18, 2009 at 9:05 am -

    Ch 10 The Simpsons Channel
    Ch9 The 2.5 Men Channel
Why are we subjected to over runs of American Shows!

  36. NiK C August 18, 2009 at 9:04 am -

This is ridculuous! Why is it that no one watches the shos i watch. i agree US SYTYCD and Go Girls were great! I really enjoyed them I agree that NZ shows are really quite good. Outrageou Fortune is one of my fave shows!

  37. slowlylu August 18, 2009 at 8:35 am -

Well that just sucks. I can see why they felt they needed to do it but it still sucks. Honestly we get the television we deserve which now includes more 2.5 Men, The Simpsons and crappy documentaries like Border Patrol.

  38. callas August 18, 2009 at 7:26 am -

Dexter had started at 10.00 pm… will this be its new timeslot David ?

  39. Craig August 18, 2009 at 7:01 am -

Why didn’t TEN just put Go Girls on at the earlier time?

  40. TVTonightKiiD August 18, 2009 at 5:14 am -

Ten sux. Go Girls was an awesome show. I think channel GO! should pick it up as part of their thursday night ‘Go Girls’ line-up. I have loved channel ten for so many years, but GO! is a million times better.

  41. newtaste August 18, 2009 at 3:10 am -

Ten could have the option of screening Go Girls at 11:00pm as an ‘expensive but underrating Australian drama series’. Wonder if they will try!

  42. Kuttsywood August 18, 2009 at 12:22 am -

Nothing like the good old “same shirt strategy” by Ten, where if there is ratings problems, stuff a ep or two of Groening’s finest in to even out the load.

  43. Bella August 17, 2009 at 10:53 pm -

Nooooooo Ch10 I want to cry. I love Dance. I’m happy that they’ve kept it, but still there’s nothing good to watch now on a Friday.

  44. Peter August 17, 2009 at 10:37 pm -

Bm-dog: They produce Sports Tonight every night for OneHD now, it airs at 9.30pm nightly so it wouldn’t save them any money to not air it on Ten.

  45. Damon August 17, 2009 at 10:26 pm -

Never been kissed? Hasn’t that been on ten 1000 times?

  46. PD August 17, 2009 at 9:44 pm -

Go Girls was a great Kiwi drama that was better than every Australian offering we’ve had this year. This news is a damn shame.

  47. Leo August 17, 2009 at 9:35 pm -

Thanks channel 10 – Go Girls was fantastic – I have actually seen the first 4 episodes on a flight from NZ earlier in the year but really enjoyed watching it on Friday night. It has a fantastic cast & deserved a far better timeslot.
NZ always take Australian shows, why can’t local networks support NZ shows by screening them in decent timeslots.

  48. James August 17, 2009 at 9:24 pm -

Great job Ten – put on a show at an unsuitable time, don’t advertise it, see it get good reviews then cancel it. How can the commercial networks wonder why they are losing viewers when so many shows are cancelled? We get repeats of the Simpsons and Two and Half Men for the hundredth time and nightly repeats of Funniest Home Videos, yet so many shows aren’t even given a decent run. What rubbish.

  49. Simon August 17, 2009 at 9:15 pm -

par3182 i agree because it will be better not knowing who the winner is when its basically everywhere on the news because the finals were already done and dusted.

  50. Brodie August 17, 2009 at 8:58 pm -

Ugh, that now takes Ten’s Simpsons count to about a dozen repeats a week (depending on city), more episodes than Nine flog out of 2.5 Men in a week.

  51. Johnson August 17, 2009 at 8:47 pm -

par3182: there is one more series of SYTYCD coming from the US later this year. Given the dismal ratings performance of the current series, I think Ten will sell the rights to Foxtel so it can show the program live via satellite, just like American Idol.

  52. David Knox August 17, 2009 at 8:27 pm -

    Was only ever a rumour.

  53. tomothy August 17, 2009 at 8:20 pm -

What ever happened to TEN dropping the 6pm Simpsons for extened newsbulletin?

  54. par3182 August 17, 2009 at 8:16 pm -

If Ten had fast tracked SYTYCD instead of running four weeks behind maybe they wouldn’t have had this problem.

  55. Dean August 17, 2009 at 8:14 pm -

I loved Go Girls, hopefully channel ten will air it again soon or at least just release it on DVD.

  56. greysfan August 17, 2009 at 7:50 pm -

Just great. The one thing that is worth watching and it gets shunted to 10:30pm. Talk about a crappy timeslot. If it were any other night of the week, bar Saturday as well i wouldnt mind but Friday night at 10:30pm?

As for Go Girls trust me to start watching another new show only for it to be canned.

  57. Stan August 17, 2009 at 7:28 pm -

I’ve got this funny feeling that everything past 1:15am won’t be aired on the Southern Cross Ten stations. Nothing gets between them & their muched loved infomercials…

  58. Belinda August 17, 2009 at 7:25 pm -

    Go Girls better return soon.

  59. R August 17, 2009 at 7:20 pm -

@ George & Amir – having a movie at 7.30 or 8.00 doesn’t leave them with too many options, since they could only play G or PG. They really need to have movies at 8.30 so that they can play M rated stuff. That would be my guess as to why they’ve slotted the Simpsons in there.

  60. Michael August 17, 2009 at 6:58 pm -

I think an hour of The Simpsons on a Friday might be the evenings best programming (and I’m basing that after looking at every channels line up).

  61. George August 17, 2009 at 6:36 pm -

Simpsons? Oh TEN.. Please don’t start falling into your bad habits – you had finally learnt that simpsons couldn’t be used for everything!

Maybe have one episode of Simpsons, a movie at 8:00 and then Dance at 10:00?

  62. BM-dog August 17, 2009 at 6:25 pm -

What’s the point of shunting Sports Tonight to 1.15am? Surely no one is actually going to stay up and watch it, so they might as well just save themselves some money and not produce the Friday night edition.

  63. Evan August 17, 2009 at 5:53 pm -

Was I the only non-Kiwi enjoying Go Girls?

  64. Craig August 17, 2009 at 5:51 pm -

Guess I’ll be recording Letterman on Fridays from now on.

I guess TEN had little option.

  65. Amir August 17, 2009 at 5:48 pm -

It would have been better to play out a movie at 7:30 and then put dance on at 9:30 rather than have Simpsons in there.

  66. Tepee August 17, 2009 at 5:30 pm -

Finally. Even if Ten only improves to 17 or 18 percent on Fridays that’s a whole lot better than bloody 14%! SYTYCD might even prop up their late-night share. Or not.

  67. Jerome August 17, 2009 at 5:26 pm -

good decision, i’m surprised it took them so long. my only comment is that they should start the movie at 7:30 that is what has worked best for them in the past to get a leg up on 9.
