David Leckie, back after this break.

Updated: David Leckie returns to the job following a break after that very odd Sunrise bash.

dlUpdated: David Leckie has dismissed newspaper claims that he attended a rehab as “complete rubbish” and says his break was a holiday.

Seven boss David Leckie is reported as returning to work today following a three week break which included a visit to an alcohol-free health resort.

The break is said to have been at the direction of chairman Kerry Stokes, following questions about his public performance at a Sunrise function in June.

At that event guests were surprised by his rambling speech and shaky stature. Seven attributed the evening to his recovering from a bout of flu.

During a largely incoherent speech Leckie attempted to pay tribute to Sunrise and the Seven team.

“And The Morning Show -well it’s just a joke. We started from nowhere and just killed them. We’ve killed them. It’s really exciting you know. It’s really very, very important and I’m glad you’re all here. It’s just extraordinary what we’ve done. But not me. The people here,” he said.

“It’s all I’ve got to say I guess. Everyone deserves their succ…success. Because I think the success has been incredible. I’ve never seen a turn around like this in my life. Don’t think I ever will again. But well done.”

  1. That picture of him David,
has that feel of Marlo Brando (whatever her name is) when she does a spin in New York, in the opening title sequence of that ‘That Girl’

  2. Its rumoured …but not confirmed that before that Sunrise speech, good ol Dave L was over having an beer with a certain Karl S and sharing points about public speaking…..only a rumour mind you…..LOL

  3. Well now that he is back from his non alcoholic holiday, maybe he will announce a further announcement about a future announcement about 7s 2nd sd channel.
and then he could go on a further non alcoholic break.

this second channel thing must be the cause of distress
ya think its about time they did announce something, dont ya?

  4. David Leckie is like the crazy uncle at your wedding party, always shooting his mouth off about rival networks (Ten a “pocket money network”, truck racing from Idaho) and doing crazy stuff. He has a lot in common with the Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, who called Radiohead’s fans boring and ugly (which is more or less true…). I couldn’t care less about the commercial networks, but Leckie and Snake-Oil Gyngell do a great job of being entertaining, while David Mott sits on the sidelines. The Sunrise speech was hilarious, keep it up Leckie.
