Hugh Sheridan in Sony record deal

hughPacked to the Rafters‘ Hugh Sheridan will sing on next Sunday’s Dancing with the Stars finale.

Sheridan, who recently performed at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, has signed a contract with Sony. His first single, Just Can’t Throw Us Away, will be released in the next fortnight. An album, with an R & B sound, will be released before Christmas.

“I’m well aware that a lot of people have crossed over from television to music, some successfully some not,” Sheridan told The Sunday Mail.

“Hopefully the fact that I’ve always sung and that music was a part of my life before acting comes across.

“Sony pushed me into writing. (Sony executive and Australian Idol judge) JD (Springbett) was keen to hear what I came up with myself and I initially didn’t want to do it, because I thought I’d be crap at it.”

Sheridan, who also has presenting stints in Play School for the ABC, was adamant his new musical career would not be to the detriment of his acting.

“My ambition is that people will see me as a serious musician as well as a serious actor. I’ve always been about everything, I just love entertaining people and I can’t ever imagine not acting.”
