Jackman winds down SEED in Sydney

hjHugh Jackman appears to be winding down operations at his Sydney production company SEED Productions with partner Deborah-Lee Furness and producer John Palermo.

While focusing mostly on film, SEED had close affiliations with Foxtel, producing An Aussie Goes Barmy, An Aussie Goes Bolly and An Aussie Goes Calypso for FOX8. Both were hosted by close friend Gus Worland.

SEED launched three years ago planning to shoot up to 5 films a year, plus television and and to establish a theatre company in Sydney.

Workers at FOX Studios in Sydney noticed the curtains drawn on the office sparking rumours that the production company had shut down its Sydney base.

“We are in a transitional period … in the meantime, we are operating from our Los Angeles office which is based on the Fox lot,” a representative told ninemsn.

“We have several Australian projects in the works and will continue to play a major part in most of Australia’s film festivals.”

CBS separated with SEED in January 2008 following the failure of Viva Laughlin.

Given how bad most of SEED’s output has been, both locally and internationally, this comes as no surprise. Jackman’s a good actor, but his output as a producer has been either underwhelming (Wolverine) or embarrassing (Viva Laughlin, Deception, the Aussie Goes… series).
