Kristy Warner has been named as the next newsreader on Rove.
Warner is Nova Sydney’s breakfast newsreader, and the daughter of Commercial Radio Australia chief executive Joan Warner.
Rove McManus announced her name on Nova this morning as the replacement for Carrie Bickmore.
She joins from Sunday night along with Judith Lucy as the show ramps up to its 10th Anniversary.

OK then casting moves were great – give them a break and time to settle in before dissing ‘em. Judith is hilarious but obviously nervous on the 1st night and Kristy is hot and talented – she has great comedy potential
Time to get back to the subject which is Rove casting moves please. Otherwise it looks like this topic is exhausted and we can close it off.
Oh Steve – you are obviously a failed “talent” – otherwise why would you be so adamant and bitter.
If you believe so Ben .If thats Australias premier talent i feel a litle distressed. Thing is though i find not many people actually find Rove funny or ever watch his show , ditto merrickrossos failed unfunny tv efforts , most i talk to find Dave Hughes annoying and again unfunny yet all these inter-connected people continue to scratch each others backs and litter our airwaves radio and tv….when its worked through they are all mates of mates and woven with each other . I cant remember anyone saying they enjoy rove ,many outright dislike him yet hes been on 10 years ….but it’s all talent based though im sure your right.
Steve, Steve, Steve – they are all talented people – is that something you don’t have? So sour
OK Sam, let me get this right…
You say Alan Carr is ‘funny at times without doubt hilarious’ but then go on to say he’s ‘funny because he’s ugly and gay and really has not much else to offer’. Sorry Sam – this is a complete contradiction. Alan uses his sexuality and looks as great comic tools and to great effect – he knows he’s starting off behind the eight ball and this is what a lot of people can relate to. And yes – you said it best – he and his show is hilarious. Thanks for agreeing with me.
Yes – Jonathan Ross went too far with a comic skit. And he realised his mistake. But isn’t this what comedy is all about? If comedians don’t want to push the envelope – who will? They stick their neck out, take a risk and sometimes cop the consequences. So you decided to sum up all of Jonathan’s brilliant talk show by a skit he did on someone else’s radio show? Sorry Sam – that’s just lazy. Jonathan is a great interviewer and is brave enough never to pander to his guests. Unlike Rove…
Graham Norton is much more than a ‘pussy’ gag Sam and you know it. Actually ‘look’ at the creative format of his show and I defy you to hold up anything Rove has done next to it. Every episode involves different celebrity guests, audience interaction and brilliant, original comedic stunts. Meanwhile the highlight of Rove has been ‘What the?’ – a recycled ‘Hey, Hey’ segment.
For the record I’m not a fan of Noel Edmonds and none of the above talent have flown around the studio in a pork pie. I’ve got nothing against Rove personally and I’m sure he’s a nice guy. I just wish his show was more creative, more original and funnier. At the moment it’s just lazy and the Australian public deserves more.

I prefer Carrie so much more, was not impressed at all with Kristy Warner
Just goes to show it’s not what you know it really is who y’know ! I have noticed how really really average the Nova news is, and was always surprised when they talk about the awards received…. well now we know . Mind you the whole thing seems like a giant circle j**k ..rove..merrickrosso….ryan fitzy….nova..now kristy warner…..dave hughes…judith lucy..it’s all jobs for the boys , talent .
Mary – shows how little you know. A panel of judges decides the winners of the radio awards – so your nasty remark is plain wrong. Just makes you look stupid as well as mean
I doubt her mum would get her the job at Nova but she did give her the radio award as she is the judge and surprise surprise her daughter is awarded it . Nepotism is at its best.
Jil I think it’s Carrie that loves herself! Her “fame” has gone to her head.
Oh dear Jil – I met Kristy at the Martin Place show last week. She is so nice and down to earth – just like Merrick and Rosso and Kate – they are allsoooo nice!!!!!!! I think you are sad and jealous and very rude about someone you haven’t even met.
I would have thought that a regular leaving would mean a fresh new face with a fresh new addition to the show, but no, it’s a fresh new face with an old addition to the show. News Desk was Carrie’s thing, and they’ve gone to the trouble of recruiting a new member only to have them doing the same segment.
Don’t listen to them Scott!
Hilarious! Just watched – News room vs the box of mystery clip – think she’ll be a great addition to Rove.
I met her last year at a trivia night with Merrick, Rossor & Kate. She was so nice and definitely doesn’t have a face for radio.
I listen to Merrick and Rosso from time to time and Kristy Warner is very uuuggh.
She loves herself whereas Carrie seems very sweet. 7pm project isn’t doing well in the ratings so it looks like Carrie is making a mistake leaving her role on Rove, I wish they’d bring her back. Oh dear.
Agree with what you say Sam about Scott.Rove does a great job,and 10 years later he is still going strong.Scott you will probably have a few more years of pain yet
@Scott
Your quote:
“If you get the chance have a look at some of these British guys – Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross or Alan Carr.”
Have had a look and yes funny at times… without doubt hilarious… Alan Carr is funny because he is ugly & gay and (without being homophobic) really has not much else to offer… Jonathan Ross was suspended for 12 weeks without pay over the “hilarious” skit he did on Radio with Russell Brand… Graham Norton is an amazing talent but I don’t think an Australian audience will fall about laughing because his telephone one night might be shaped like a “kitty” and he gets a world of “pussy” gags out of it. (“Are You Being Served?” did all that many many years ago).
I appreciate what you are trying to say but we aren’t the UK and Noel Edmonds flying around a studio in a pork pie just doesn’t cut it here.
Rove is what we have and I personally think he reflects Australia pretty well (a nobody that no one knows does good… then gets cut down savagely)… and he is still standing 10 years later.
Scott you seem to love to cut him down… surely you have something closer to home to be more embarrassed about than a man I assume you have never even met.
Kristy was at the digital radio launch in Martin Place last week, the only newsreader to be live on-site. She read the Nova news without a slip or hesitation. I noticed a wedding ring, btw. Also saw Joan Warner when she was being interviewed by Ten News. Kristy looks absolutely nothing like her mother Joan.
@Nathan from The Extra Source. I’ve seen a couple of your comments that seem to include quotes like “And i agree her dad would of got her the job at Nova”. Mate sorry to be pedantic but if you’re flogging your blog can you say ‘would have’ or ‘would’ve’. ‘Would of’ is so wrong. cheers.
I feel sorry for Carrie. Now she’s left Rove, and leaving her radio role to focus purely on The 7pm Project.
I have a feeling someone will be in the Centrelink line before the year is out…
It’s just so embarrassing that Rove is Australia’s only tonight show host at the moment.
If you get the chance have a look at some of these British guys – Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross or Alan Carr.
All have incredibly creative, diverse, entertaining and funny shows.
And then watch Rove…..sigh.
Great replacement ! She’s a really good newsreader and always funny when Merick and Rosso talk to her – actually she’s often funnier than them !
This is a good choice, she’s the definitely got the voice for this segment. I don’t think, however, that she’ll be any funnier than Carrie (I’ve seen a lot of people complaina bout how unfunny Carrie is).
In regards to the segment remaining i think think they were damned if they did…. damned if they didn’t. It’s easy to say to retire it, but then that would require something else ‘outside the square’ to be thought up. It could have been shelved, thus not needing to recruit another person to the team.
I would have rotated “at the newsdesk” with various 10 personalities (primarily from the news department). I’d get random reporters from the newsroom (be it news/sport/weather). Imagine Mike Larkin or Tim Bailey trying to show more of a sense of humour than what they already do….. probably would be a turn off for some, or most people.
It’s a shame my fav comic Judith Lucy has joined Rove cos now I have to watch it. No I think I will tape it and fast forward to Rove’s crap. He is so overated it’s a joke. He should bin the US tonight show ideas. They have some crap tonight shows but Rove would put the yanks to sleep….
What colour’s green? Some of you guys are obviously jealous. Did the negatives throw his/her hat in the ring and weren’t good enough???
@ David
I wasn’t meaning to come off as harsh! I was trying to make the point that there are lots of really talented successful people who have just happened to also have talented successful parents – it doesn’t mean they’re any less deserving than anyone else – just that I really do wish I was that lucky
Maybe the old adage is true the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I wish her the very best of luck
I love the news segment – it’s one of the best parts of the show I think it’s great and don’t care what anyone says – and I don’t know why people are being mean about this girl, why does everyone have to be so negative about everything???
Bit harsh guys… wait and see how this grows….
It’s who you know……………..
Kate Hudson
Keifer Sutherland
Gywneth Paltrow
Liv Tyler
Just to name a few who have successful parents…………… if only we were all so
lucky!
She’s actually a pretty good newsreader on Nova – I believe she won the Commercial Radio Awards newsreading category a year or two ago – so she’s not just there thanks to her family connections.
@ c-mon
Have you seen everyone on tv on tv before? Seems like that’s a pretty stupid thing to say.
Umm I think Joan is a lady’s name!!
And I can’t see Merrick & Rosso having someone on their show who’s s*&t regardless of who her mum/dad is.
Bring back What The? and some of the old segments that made rove famous. This girl/news segment wont last… Carrie Brickwall made that segment her own and this new chick wont be any better. And i agree her dad would of got her the job at NOVA.
A great metaphor as she enters the TV industry?
@ Daniel – That’s probably because in the original photo she has her hand in a cage full of rats
I don’t think audiences will warm up to a new Carrie. Sure, audiences enjoyed people filling in when Carrie was absent (i.e. giving birth etc) but they always knew Carrie would be back.
Looks like Daddy got her the job.. Havnt seen her on tv before.
@Daniel
Saw her last week in Syd & she’s hot
I concur – the news seg is so lame. Why not do something completely new and fresh for the 10th series? Perhaps even funny?
Sorry tomothy, I don’t agree. I was so over those segments and just seeing them in your post makes me bored. They seem so outdated now. I love the news segment! It’s what I look forward to the most on that show. Very funny!
I too think the news segment should just be scrapped, really don’t get the need for it and just seems like silly filler
@tomothy:
I totally agree! What The? was one of the most hilarious segments!
That picture on the homepage with the little red face of hers makes it look like she’s passing stones or something :/
Just scrap the news segment, it’s not funny.
We need the good old days of Rove with What The?, 60 Seconds at Your House, Roving With Rove, Tell Us Where To Go, etc.
