It's an idea that has been mooted by some readers here, and Seven has decided to pursue it.

  1. if u hate double take then dont watch it none is forcing u to maybe u should think about this : double take isnt on for people who hate it its for people who like it and if u want to complain then just think this:i dont have to watch it i dont need to if i hate it then i hate it dosent mean it has to get axed or something

  2. I love TV Burp and think that Ed Cavalee is hilarious. The way he sets the clip up and the little comments after, including the comments to the side cameras are classics. Well done Burp!

  3. obviously not as serious as cancer skit on the abc show but the skit bout gluten free diners.bad taste dt it is a disease not some pretend in Ur head thing! d*** heads

  4. They used to be great Thursdays means when we had Glenn Robbins Out of the Question,Family Guy,Lost or Heroes and Scrubs. The Worse part was ditching all those for Greys Anatomy and Private Practice Shows like that can be used to replace All Saints but not Laughter what drugs were Channel 7 on at the time.Hopefully this new line up of comedies brings the greatness back that was missing on Thursdaty Nights

  5. I stumbled on both shows during their first night, and was surprrised to really enjoy them. I loved the sketch with teh Mothers with Battle Prams taking over teh cafe, it was so refreshing to see someone tackling these sacred cows.

It is lowbrow, but very well done. I have laughed out loud and I do enjoy Double Take, and also TV Burp. I hope they don’t get taken off, they’re a nice alternative to constant murder shows and reality shows and competition shows.

  6. Steve: Exactly. While I don’t mind watching TV Burp, it just feels so slow and clunky compared to The Soup. That said, Joel McHale is one of the top talents on television today.

  7. Finally a network listens. I like that TV burp. The only criticism I have is, why talk about the same shows. Why not talk about some other ones too. I suppose they all have a mistake or two to show. And of course that Double take is Double trouble if you ask me. The 1st episode had S**T so many times in one sketch of Kochie and Mel, it was like listening to Gordon Ramsay making a huge deal out of stuffing up a dish for the 1000th time!

  8. It is not too bad in tha ratings considering that on a Thursday Night You are competing against Nightclubs and Other Forms of Entertainment as well given the generation watching the show Most of them work nights or are out late night shopping and don’t get back till well past nine.

  9. Double take is discusting! I made a formal complaint to channel 7 after the first episode. It features nothing more than a disgustingly low sense of humour and shouldn’t even be on air. Thank goodness they are changing the time that it airs but they should push it back even further. TV Burp isn’t much better, it gets so ridiculous after 5 minutes, they just bag and bag and bag and bag other shows trying to make it funny…. I call it lame.

As far as I’m concerned, both shows should go. Shame on you channel 7.

  10. First off, I like em both: I think Burp is a little soft but with quite a lot of funny moments and a nice warm tone (Kavelee an appealing guy who doesn’t come off like he thinks he’s god’s gift).

Double Take is a really good show but not nearly as warm and friendly. If it was on ABC or even ABC2, it would feel right – quite hard edged, quite racey by Aussie tv sketch standards. If one gets past one’s hostility to general sketch comedy shows (which I have too) and to commercial networks sketch shows (which are a very mixed bag), it’s often very funny and always saying something.

Re the ‘flip’: it might be either a sense that: *’TV Burp’ is the gentler lead in and sets up DT better than other way around, given DT is quite racy with language etc.
*the possible interpretation from the last 2 weeks’ lot of ratings (where Burp did less well than DT), that people might watch Burp in order to wait for Double Take, but not the other way around.
*I don’t think it’s the sheer numbers the shows did last week. 950,000 or whatever it was for a sketch show at 8.30pm is actually ok, and those shows – Burp and DT – are in a tough slot, in the sense that they are relying on a very specific market: younger people who are mostly men (women are overwhelmingly the audience for Rush, like many other crime and procedural shows); and 20-1 is for old farts over 50 (of which there are a lot in Australia).

  11. Double Take’s ratings last week would have been boosted by Powerballs $80m draw in the middle of it too. It would have flopped even more had people not left their sets on waiting for the lotto draw.

But TV Burp, repeated Friday at 11.45pm in Melbourne and then again on Saturday afternoon – getting desperate to catch new viewers aren’t they?

  12. Gosh, a TV station actually listening to it’s viewers.

Like many other posters here I really enjoy TV Burp, its funny, fast moving and very well presented. However I’m worried that it will never rate well on Thursday’s as NCIS has a huge audience in that timeslot.

  13. Anyone else notice that Double Take is exactly the same “comedy” team that has been wheeled out on Seven before under a different name? TV Burp is good dumb fun…I enjoyed watching it on Saturday afternoon as it is never going to win over Rush for me.

  14. TV Burp is a poorly excuted idea. It keeps forgetting ABC and SBS.
It also dosen’t take the pi** out of news and current affairs like the Chaser did unfortunately.

Double take was lame excpet for the sunrise gags.

  15. Hopefully TV Burp becomes more successful and can be elaborated into an hour clip/variety show. It has potential and could take on 20 to 1 for sure.

We don’t need Double Take, use some creative thinking and make a new Aussie Sitcom

  16. Hooray! I would be amazed if they ditched Double Take, they might send it off to late night land but as sketch comedy counts for drama points (which is I think the only reason they made it) it will still be in the schedule somewhere.

  17. TV Burp is the lesser of two evils, but still a very lame show.

Seven should have bought the rights to The Soup, and used a more likeable host than K.D Lang.

  18. Would it be because of the sexual references/language/nudity on Double Take? Not exactly family friendly. I think a later time slot is more suited for a show like Double Take.

  19. I love TV Burp, and Double Take should have started of in the 9pm slot, because of its language and ‘nudity’ and sexual references and what not, esp in the UnderKelly skits.

Im happy with this new change 🙂

  20. Argh… As much as someone like myself might watch these shows – the simple fact it – they don’t rate – and they should never have been commissioned.

They’re just going to wind up on The Comedy Channel in repeat.
