why do none of the stations put movies on anymore i am sick of the same drivel on every channel

  2. Andrey August 9, 2009 at 5:52 pm -

Why is Ed K doing an impersonation of Harry Hill on TV burp. Harry Hill, the UK host, is a comediian who has developed his ‘odd’ character for years so it fits perfectly with how he presents the show. Ed K shooting the same looks and throwing to the same illogical links works perfectly for Harry… not so Ed! Why can’t Ed be allowed to find his own style?

No one seemed to have a huge win last night…

As for DDD on Nine, I see it moving to GO! soon if they can’t even get it together to play the same ep at the same time/night how do they expect it to rate?

  4. tv August 9, 2009 at 11:52 am -

The Ashes had an effect on seven. Seven should have got over 200 points for the week, but only managed 199.9. SBS got 28.4 points for two nights, where they would usually get 14-15, seven could have easily gotten another 10 points if not for the Ashes.

  5. Brodie August 9, 2009 at 11:43 am -

Wow, Saturday doesn’t get much closer than that. Huge night for SBS.

  7. Trev August 9, 2009 at 11:29 am -

Whoa!!! Aunty wins an evening and the Poms 5-82 at end of day 2. Not a bad Saturday, although let’s be honest, it is a wilderness.

  8. Christopher August 9, 2009 at 11:23 am -

Do you have numbers for the Bundesliga football match on One HD last night?

  9. jack August 9, 2009 at 1:20 am -

David, you need to correct the Coming Soon Link. Drop Dead Diva will now only be premiering on Channel 9 in Melbourne on Monday at 9:30pm. Channel 9 Perth and Adelaide have dumped it for a repeat episode of the Mentalist.

  10. Craig August 8, 2009 at 10:42 pm -

I prefer a show that has an ending, this is why I like cable/PayTV. You know it’s going to run it’s course, (That is shows made for cable) If network TV lands a good show they squeeze every last bit out of it before it dies.

  11. Harry August 8, 2009 at 6:55 pm -

    @ Brodie
Yes Im aware.. I was being sarcastic. Its actually alright though.

  12. Trev August 8, 2009 at 6:28 pm -

@ big kev. The commercial networks make 13 or more episodes and if they fail to reach the target audience they’re canned. The ABC tends to limit most of its drama to 4-5 episodes and if it does not rate, they wait a short while and make something else. They may have bombed on quite a few occasions, but many have been rip snorters. If its consistent quality one is after, forget the ratings watch the ABC and quite a bit of the subtitled programs on SBS are worth a peek. An example a few years ago would be the La Femme Nikitas. The original French movie shat all over the other two.

  13. Dakota August 8, 2009 at 5:52 pm -

Tv Burp is quite funny, and Ed Kavalee is hot even though he’s hamming it up a bit too much, However I really believe they should be a bit more acidic like “The Soup” is. I know we don’t want it to mimic it, and he’s no Joel McHale etc, but at least then it would seem a bit more clever. I’ll still continue to watch though, as its not too bad :)

7pm projects on Fridays are the best. No Dave Hughes and i quite like Jane Hall. But get rid of Ruby Rose as well. She cannot interview at all. Her interview with Jet. “I’ve been listening to this cd the past week and it is really really good”. Yeah thanks for that insightful review Ruby.

  15. Paul August 8, 2009 at 3:14 pm -

Ten really need to have a look at what its doing on Fridays. Almost the whole evening is taken up by SYTYCD and I doubt most could endure watching the whole thing and switch to other networks. At least 7pm seems to be improving and Go Girls seems promising, but its poor ratings are hardly a surprise when it wasn’t advertised and put at a late time after SYTYCD.

  16. Brodie August 8, 2009 at 3:00 pm -

@ Harry. Which is a really sad reflection of Ten’s night! Those 7pm ratings are pretty shocking. It’s got a fair way to build before the end of the year is out, otherwise I don’t see it returning in 2010.

People are continually saying “oh 7pm was so much better last night”. Whether it has improved or not, i’m not sure as I haven’t felt inclined to watch it again since the horrible and dry first episode. I think they’ll need a pretty big gimmick in draw in new / lost viewers.

  17. Tepee August 8, 2009 at 2:42 pm -

The downside to not having BB on this year is that they have absolutely nothing to anchor their Friday nights like Friday Night Live did. They lost one percent of their weekly share because of their awful Fridays, and BH&G more than doubled Dance. Simpsons repeats would do around 800k, but what to put post-8:30? About a Boy again?

  18. big kev August 8, 2009 at 2:26 pm -

Hey trev….. our tastes arnt miles apart at all….. i never liked stuff such as Dance your ass off, but i know many people who tuned in for the first episode, then it was taken off. For me, it was a show that would rate well on FOX8 or Arena….. but i was more talking about how shows, who have potential to receive a fan base, are just yanked straight away. It just seems to me that newtworks must be losing millions on shows that only air for one or two episodes, because there is so much negative chatter. i know its all about money, but i also dont know whats hitting certain demographics better…… im totally ignorant to that side, but i believe that changing timeslots, or doing what seven is doing with ‘True Beauty’ by doubling it up to get rid of it, completes the cycle so fans can actually enjoy it.

  19. Alex T August 8, 2009 at 2:16 pm -

i actually quite enjoyed that friday episode of 7PM without Dave.. They’re starting to settle into it quite a lot more now.. Hopefulyl TEN stick with it a bit longer

  20. Harry August 8, 2009 at 1:58 pm -

7PM was TENS second highest show last night!

  21. rob August 8, 2009 at 1:34 pm -

Shame that Go Girls didn’t get more viewers as its a really good show, but what can be expected when Ten puts it at a stupid time and doesn’t advertise it (either on TV or their website). There have been a few good kiwi shows on the last few years, its just unfortunate that the networks don’t really give them any chance of success by puting them on at late times. Go Girls has got good reviews so Ten really should make more of it than they do.

  22. RichoTB August 8, 2009 at 1:05 pm -

7pm Project has definitely improved since its first few episodes, pity there are too many monkeys that find 2.5 men and Home and Away enjoyable television. And does anyone else think that Seven will be revamping their Thursdays once True Beauty ends in 2 weeks?

I’m thinking they’ll start playing The Amazing Race in double eps from 7.30-9.30pm, while bumping TV Burp and Double Take to 9.30pm. That way the latter shows will have less pressure on them to rate, and they can fast-track the new Amazing Race season 15 in late September

I’m glad to see Today and Hot Seat really start to take it to Sunrise and Deal or No Deal.

    TEN – Forgettable Friday?

  26. darryn August 8, 2009 at 12:01 pm -

with figures of 30.3 v 21.5 who gives a toss about demos?….certainly not a certain “youth culture” demo company that just spent 6 times its advertising to 7 versus what they spent to 10. figures? 24.7 million over the next 6 months compared to 5.8 million to 10

  27. Trev August 8, 2009 at 11:54 am -

Oops, sorry Kev, US figure should read 300,000,000. I studied at the Poh school of advanced Mathematics.

  28. darryn August 8, 2009 at 11:53 am -

how low can ten go, this is just plain embarrassing and because of certain people here, I am loving it

  29. Trev August 8, 2009 at 11:48 am -

I believe the primary reason for shows being dumped so quickly here in Oz is the size of the market place Big Kev. 300,000 plus as against 21,000,000. I would imagine a show bombing in the USA would still have at least 5 times the audience of a successful one here. It’s all to do with money, they have heaps, we have very little and it quite often shows. What appeals to the masses may not appeal to you and me, but that is what makes the world turn. The problem with some of our contributors is they have their favourite network and tend to be biased against the others regardless of any quality programming, at least that is my opinion. Your tastes and mine may be miles apart, but that’s what TV is all about, personal choice. As for this little black duck I am a sports freak and can’t get enough of it on weekends, light comedy shows (GNW etc) during the evening and anything on daytime television for the afternoon nap.

  30. Belinda August 8, 2009 at 11:09 am -

Can Go Girls survive at those numbers? Thank you David for telling us about this show. It was great. Ten seems a bit confused about when they are airing it, as they ran an ad for it saying it was on at 8.30 last night. Hopefully they still need the content points and they keep it on.

  31. Ducko August 8, 2009 at 11:05 am -

7pm Project down slightly on last week, despite being up by 90k in Melbourne. It was well down in all other cities.

  32. Andrew B August 8, 2009 at 11:04 am -

Bad night for 10. Maybe So You Think You Can Dance should be on later?

Agree with some of Big Kev’s comments in relation to letting shows build, but there are some shows that may work OK in the US that just should not be shown here or shown at a time more appropriate.

  33. pietro August 8, 2009 at 10:33 am -

With 12 writers I would have thought TV Burp could come up with something better than the dross we have seen so far. Maybe we need to import Harry Hill.

  34. Jed August 8, 2009 at 9:39 am -

@ Dakota. Ever think that maybe that was a joke and he was taking the pi**.

  35. big kev August 8, 2009 at 8:23 am -

I am shocked at how many programmes are falling by the wayside this year….. maybe its because i’m actually following it for the first time, but it seems shows on all networks are either doing really well or really tanking. I agree with alot of you, shows need to build an audience. I have just come back from the USA where they really exhaust every attempt to make a show a hit (ie. Kath & Kim)… but here they just kinda give up. I must admit, Im offended by so many people on this forum calling for shows to be axed well before they should. I read all your angst towards 7pm project…. i kinda like it, and is the perfect show for me at that timeslot as i am not a ‘Home & Away’ fan. But everytime a network tries something new, you all are against it. Shows that are massive in the USA like ‘Dance Your Ass Off’, ‘Wipeout’ & ‘Harpers Island’ are being savaged here… probably by people who have never sat and watched these shows. I like sevens move for ‘True Beauty’ to honour who actually grew an attraction to the show. I would love to know though….. what shows on this forum do you all actually like….. or are most of the people on these forums people who just complain about everything……… just give me one thing you like about tv?

  36. Trev August 7, 2009 at 8:47 pm -

Here in my sleepy little hollow Nine (ie NBN) rules the roost, how embarrasing. Most of the locals still think it’s Channel 3 and attempt to make phone calls using the remote. Oh well, back to the footy, half times over.

  37. Dakota August 7, 2009 at 8:11 pm -

I know its a couple days late, but I was a bit annoyed on the 7pm Project when Charlie made a crack at Michala Banas not being a “typical” actress by bringing out a single. *cough* does anyone else remember “Kissing The Wind” from 2003 when she was on Always Greener? She even went on Pepsi CHarts on Channel 10 Sunday 5.30 when it used to be on to promote herself as being an alternative singer before Missy Higgins went global. It was a great single. U could tell Michala was a bit embarassed at the time lol. Nice research Charlie :P

  38. Justin August 7, 2009 at 7:07 pm -

great to see Sterlo back on the NRL thursday night footy show this week!! made a huge difference actually sat and watched the whole show for a change

  39. darryn August 7, 2009 at 6:47 pm -

when is the head of channel 10 “mr rove” going to axe the travesity that is the 7pm project?

  40. Belinda August 7, 2009 at 6:39 pm -

@ Craig, Ten played them at 8pm a couple of months ago, after Worst Week was removed from the schedule.

  41. vid August 7, 2009 at 4:53 pm -

    @ Andrew B
yes it was nice that 7 let nine win….u can think that!! lol
    7′s thurs lineup is week.

  42. damo August 7, 2009 at 1:28 pm -

1 more week fo 7pm projest before it get’s canned. same with double take and tv burp

  43. Andrew B August 7, 2009 at 1:22 pm -

Aren’t 7 nice letting 9 win a night by having poor programming on Thursday nights!

GO, 9 and 9HD all count as the 9 network so therefore included in total share for ch 9 like 10 and ONE, ABC = ABC1 + ABC2, etc.

I read somewhere that ratings for GO will not be part of 9′s share for two weeks after the luanch, most likely so it fits into 4 week OzTam cycles.

  44. RichoTB August 7, 2009 at 1:21 pm -

I can’t see Ten doing well until at least late September. While they generally have more innovative and interesting programming than the 20 to 1.5 men network, shows like Dexter, Numb3rs and Burn Notice will be more than likely to struggle to get above 600k. Until Celebrity Masterchef and NCIS:LA premiere it will be a rough few weeks for them.

  45. koverstreet August 7, 2009 at 1:12 pm -

    @ george
TEN will not move Neighbours. Even though it’s TP numbers are average 95% or so of that is under 50s which is all most advertisers and TEN care about. You must also remember that thursday nights are generally a little lower as some of the target demo are out shopping.

Re The 7pmReport it’s improving and becoming a much better show. I also like the guest hosts like Matt Preston and Jane Hall on fri nights.

  46. Craig August 7, 2009 at 1:02 pm -

With the season final of Rules of Engagement last night does this mean TEN will and the final 3 eps it missed of S2?

  47. Ducko August 7, 2009 at 12:53 pm -

    @DanR,

I don’t know why Sydney’s numbers for Rush are lower than Melbourne’s but I’d doubt it’s because it’s made in Melbourne. If that were the case how does it explain that Sydney’s ratings for Mebourne made Neighbours are usually higher than Melbourne’s?

  48. salf August 7, 2009 at 12:25 pm -

7′s thursdays are pretty bad, but seeings that they win most other nights they win in 18-54, 25-54, and total people. i think having one night to concentrate on winning 16-39 and 18-49 even if it comes at the cost of total people is not such a bad thing.
all networks should have atleast one night like that.

it will be interesting to see if tvburp does any better at 8:30 next week, i’m hoping it atleast gets close to 20to1 for the half hour.

    great numbers for rush.

  49. George August 7, 2009 at 12:25 pm -

Rush is doing really well in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Sydney is fairly average, but its Brisbane ratings are fairly low.
470,000 in Melbourne is very good for a Thursday night and for a show like this. Last night’s episode was awesome and deserved to rate very high.
Had TEN gone better before 8:30PM they probably would’ve gotten second for the night. Hopefully next week that special replacing Rules of Engagement will rate well.
I’m a big fan of The 7PM Project, but if it doesn’t pick up in numbers they might need to change it. I reckon it would work better as a late-night program rather than an evening one.
Simpsons and Neighbours once again didn’t rate well. TEN need to do something about that block, unless it’s still scoring well in the all important demos that is.

  50. Luke August 7, 2009 at 10:54 am -

7pm Project doesnt seem to be picking up audience. Its a shame as, while it started off all over the place, it does seem to be finding its feet a bit now and I quite enjoy it.
Great to see Rush a consistant performer this year. Its always good to see Aussie content doing well. Havent watched All Saints in years as Im not a fan of hospital dramas, but am always pleased to see that doing well too. Maybe Nine or Ten should look at picking it up next year. Although if it went to Nine the actors would have to be prepared to start taking their gear off in keeping with their high standards of tv of late.

  51. BoyWonder August 7, 2009 at 10:40 am -

This probably isn’t the forum to talk about this but here goes…. GO! looks very exciting. Can someone explain to me please why it will count with 9′s normal channels ratings? Like ONE does for TEN?

  52. Rutzie August 7, 2009 at 10:30 am -

I reckon TV Burp will do better next week in the 8.30pm slot, possibly pulling 900k. Seven can afford to keep these shows going even though they aren’t setting the ratings on fire because the week is already won by Thursday and they still only lost the night to Nine by 3.4%. Does anyone have the Demo’s for TV Burp. Thanks in advance. Also please stop showing pre-recorded interviews 7PM Project unless you can actually show the entire thing. I’m sick of being told to go to the website to watch a whole interview.

  53. wamdue August 7, 2009 at 10:28 am -

its a shame about TV Burp, its a good show, I am amazed how 7 has made the show as close to being as good as the UK original as it ever could be. Im not sold on the presenter, but there is some classic TV Burp type jokes in it.

Also I know want to see Rush, see how it compares to the Bill

  54. Craig August 7, 2009 at 10:26 am -

Another average night for TEN but great to see Rush willing it’s time slot!

  55. DanR August 7, 2009 at 10:25 am -

Why are the Sydney numbers so (relatively) poor for Rush? Surely not because it’s set in Melbourne….

  56. Harry August 7, 2009 at 10:18 am -

Well Done to Rush for breaking 1.2 mil! Finally getting the numbers it thoroughly deserves!

  57. Trev August 7, 2009 at 10:16 am -

As soon as anyone mentions how well Neighbours is going, down go the ratings. Start of week, 866K, now 734K. Tomorrow 600K something maybe. As for the 7pm Project, no more needs to be said.

  58. james Grant August 7, 2009 at 10:15 am -

I know as the week progresses ratings for all shows tend to slide but 7PM Project down to 695,000 – even M*A*S*H gets around 500,000 and it’s in its umpteenth repeat.

I know Ten are now saying they are committed to this till December but gosh those figures are a worry.

Q&A was great last night – had a young audience quizzing Gillard and Turnbull on all things politics – very interesting.

Also caught Season 2 of Damages on cable last night – shame Nine yanked this from their schedule – if they’d stuck with it I’m sure there would have been a loyal following around the 9.30pm timeslot!

  59. koverstreet August 7, 2009 at 10:08 am -

Hot Seat and DOND have been very close lately.

And geez I’m hoping the time slot switch helps out TV Burp next week otherwise it’s gonski.

  60. JohnTV August 7, 2009 at 10:08 am -

Nine are now going to soon have to deal with a cold hard reality check… for so long they have been using the excuse of poor 5:30pm lead in for ratings of their News.

Hot Seat has closed in on Deal but Nine News has not closed in against Seven News – in fact, it has lost ground in some markets – especially Sydney.

On current trends, Hot Seat will over take Deal, so Nine will soon no longer have the excuse of a poor lead in to blame for their news performance

  61. RichoTB August 7, 2009 at 9:56 am -

Also, True Beauty is floundering. 600k in a 9.30pm slot is rather poor, although I’m not sure how it goes in the demos. Hopefully this means less trashy reality crap, although with shows like World’s Strictest Parents rating so high it looks like there’ll be more to come.

  62. RichoTB August 7, 2009 at 9:54 am -

I don’t see TV Burp and Double Take coming back next year with those kind of figures, losing 200k from last week. I bet Seven will be happy when Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practise comes back. Also it looks like Rush is getting consistent figures, it will be interesting to see how City Homicide goes when it comes back next week.

  63. gerry August 7, 2009 at 9:48 am -

Hot Seat and Deal or No Deal are coming closer together.
Will we see Hot Seat over-taking the Deal?

  64. Jed August 6, 2009 at 10:09 pm -

I could not believe Rush tonight. A bit soon for copying the Pumpkin story isn’t it? girl they name Princess (aka Pumpkin). Left at train station by her father. Mother’s body found in car boot. I was a little stunned watching that story.

Flicked to TV Burp during ads. That show is very funny. Good move by 7 to switch around, but still a bad time for the show.

  65. DAN August 6, 2009 at 8:44 pm -

@ Peter LOL love your reasons on APC espcially the the 4th reason

  66. ryan August 6, 2009 at 8:13 pm -

    Predictions of Celebrity Masterchef ratings???
i would say opening night around 1.3-1.6m

  67. Nick August 6, 2009 at 5:53 pm -

Wow, new Family Guy and American Dad beat encore Rescue at 10.30 last night.

  68. Tepee August 6, 2009 at 5:17 pm -

Nice to see The Librarians premiere so well and tara with good numbers.

  69. Harry August 6, 2009 at 5:05 pm -

LOL at TENs dismal effort last night! SVU keeps failing, on Thursdays it did well. Strickest Parents bores me..

  70. Peter August 6, 2009 at 3:26 pm -

i think nine should leave APC right where it is. ive thought of 4 reasons: 1. there are obviously some very sad and strange people watching, who would want to know who Australias perfect couple is (why is beyond me!). 2. no matter what they put there to replace it, its still going to get low ratings anyway, so why make yourself look even dumber by changing it. 3. they already paid to make it, and its not going to do any better anywhere else in the schedule. And finally 4. What else is going to put a smile on my face on a Thursday morrning, other then switching on to TVtonight and laughing at the cr*p ratings it gets! lol

  71. james Grant August 6, 2009 at 3:19 pm -

Nine News certainly doesn’t seem any better with Peter Overton in the Chair but I do think viewers, to some extent, are infuenced by a newsreader. When Hendo left Nine and Ian Ross defected to Seven there was certainly a lot of viewers who switched to Seven and have stayed. Nine has never been able to lead in Sydney since Brian Henderson left.

I agree with David though that national figures reflect a problem greater than say a newsreader in Sydney or Adelaide but I think Sydney and Melbourne by virtue of their size are where it obviously counts and if there is a sizeable swing to one particular network in those cities it does carry into the national figures – that is why Seven News does so well because of a huge lead in Sydney!

  72. DAN August 6, 2009 at 1:46 pm -

Wowwith the fabulos ratings nine will definatly be making another series of APC with Jackie O errrr no i mean Juels lund
get rid of it 9 even if it only has a few weeks to go

  73. sam August 6, 2009 at 1:40 pm -

    umm yes meant Hot Set…………….
