Hey Hey v MasterChef

One would never be so foolish as to tip an actual number, but one online betting agency has a book running on whether Hey Hey the Reunion will beat Celebrity MasterChef.

Firstly it’s a rather silly question.

Comparing one 60 minute show to another that stretches for 150 minutes is hardly an equal battle.

The question should be which will win the 7:30 – 8:30 share?

Shows that are longer traditionally result in a lower average, because there are fewer viewers at the end of a marathon than at the beginning. Viewers may find an …

Top Gear live and a lot of hot air

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May recently launched their Top Gear Live World Tour in anything other than a vehicle – a hot air balloon at London’s Royal Geographical Society. Straight out of Around this World in 80 Days.

This year’s tour, which hits Sydney in February, will play to over 340,000 fans on four continents, requiring 135 trucks, 3 ships, 1 freight plane and 94 cars, and 150 sets of tyres.

The new show promises “the world’s fastest cars pushed to their mechanical limits, acrobats laying their lives on the line …

Survivor safe distance from disaster in Samoa

CBS reality series Survivor filmed its 19th and 20th seasons in Samoa, which has been devastated by earthquake and tsunami today.

Survivor was filmed on the island of Upolu, where damage is said to be very widespread, particularly on its south-east coast.

The earthquake reached a magnitude between 8.0 and 8.3, and its subsequent tsunami has resulted in loss of life that is expected to rise.

Jeff Probst and the Survivor crew, which regularly features Australian members, were not harmed with the 20th season not being filmed at the time.

The 19th season is currently …

Returning: The Graham Norton Show

Britain’s cheeky, sometimes camp talk-show host, Graham Norton is returning with a new fastracked series to ABC2.

Expect trademark Norton comedy monologues, celebrity chat, eccentric stories and characters, and home-grown weirdness.

Guests on episode one are Ricky Gervais, Ozzy Osbourne and Olivia Newton John, which airs in the UK on October 5th. Great line-up!

ABC2 will return The Graham Norton Show at 9:30pm Thursday October 22nd.

The second ep will feature David Mitchell, Robert Webb and Paolo Nutini.

Experiment sinking, NCIS to the rescue

In the third night of the week from hell there were triumphs one and all….which means failures one and all too.

The return of NCIS stormed to 1.42m viewers (and rave reports from TV Tonight viewers already) which certainly bodes well for its remaining episodes on TEN this year. Expect it to disappear from late November. It wasn’t enough to win the slot, but for TEN it was a lifeline.

That victory went to Packed to the Rafters on just under 1.7m -down slightly from its ‘racy’ episode last week. The …

Still on Foxtel’s “To Do” list

Yesterday’s Foxtel news may have been the height of excitement for Kim Williams and Foxtel executives. The dream of every subscriber home having an iQ is reminiscent of Herbert Hoover’s 1928 election promise of “A chicken in every pot, a car in every garage,” or Bob Hawke’s promise that “By 1990, no Australian child will be living in poverty.” At least this one will be realised.

The iQ, like many PVRs, does revolutionise personal viewing. Foxtel’s push to free up access to content and allow consumers to build their own programming is …

Gordon Ramsay gets even more animated

He’s always been very animated, but now Gordon Ramsay will be literally animated when Canadian animators Cuppa Coffee Studios puts the outspoken chef in his own stop-motion series.

The Toronto-based company, which also produced Rick & Steve and Celebrity Deathmatch, says Gordon Ramsay, At Your Service promises “a unique take on Ramsay’s larger than life personality with an animated action-comedy spin that will not only appeal to Ramsay’s existing fan base, but will also reach out to new audiences.”

Cuppa Coffee President and Executive Producer Adam Shaheen, said, “Gordon Ramsay has established himself …

Apprentice contestants met before show

It may not be breaking the rules of The Apprentice Australia, but it’s certainly surprising.

Two contestants on the new Nine reality show know each other before the show.

According to business magazine Anthill, Carmen Parnos (pictured seating), Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Super Leaders Australia, mentored Amy Cato prior to the series in corporate development.

“My first impressions of Amy Cato (pictured standing) were, ‘What a knockout,” she wrote last December. “She looked great. She was in a neat and dry cleaned business suit. She was well groomed, her shoes were …

Aussie networks turn to MIPCOM

As the annual international salesfest that is MIPCOM approaches, Variety gives us an idea of what our networks are looking for in 2010 content.

According to the US showbiz bible, TEN programming head Beverley McGarvey says the network’s strong position, particularly in the 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. slots, means they can be selective at the market.

“For the first time ever, we are not looking for a 7 p.m. strip,” says McGarvey after the launch of The 7PM Project. “But we remain interested in early evening content. We are interested in entertainment formats, …
