Good golly, it’s Molly.

Channel Seven has relented. Molly Meldrum will be part of the Hey Hey It's Saturday reunions.

mmChannel Seven has relented. Molly Meldrum will be part of the Hey Hey It’s Saturday reunions.

The Herald Sun says Daryl Somers pleaded his case to Seven boss David Leckie.

“They are allowing me to do the Hey Hey shows and I am sure it is going to be great fun,” Meldrum said.

“From the Countdown days at the ABC and then to move to Hey Hey in 1987, and be part of that, another iconic show, for the next 12 years or so, I have been extremely lucky in life,” he said.

Facebook fans were also getting very vocal about the guru’s absence, dropping words like ‘petition’ and ‘boycott.’

Meanwhile, he will also pop up on the ABC next week in a 1970s special on Spicks and Specks.

Meldrum joins most of the key cast members for the two specials, but so far there is still no word on an appearance by Ernie Carroll aka Ossie Ostrich.

Just as well Molly is in… otherwise they may have had to recruit Michael Veitch to do his best Countdown impression.

  1. Ben Tree i agree, in 7’s shoes it’s hard to see why they would do it unless there was a sizable $ amount involved.

what is the point of paying a network exclusive deal if they let that person go as soon as it gets a use?

but it’s a good thing nonetheless.

  2. @Andrew – Daryl was on Eddie’s MMM show this morning and mentioned that Jackie could well make an appearance in the second show……apparently she feels a little awkward about it as she views herself as being retired from the industry

  3. It’s a big ‘If’ when it comes to whether it’ll end up returning to a weekly show. In the history of TV, not many have been able to pull it off. Being the type of show it is, it’s very possible it will successfully make it back to its old regular experience. As an example, if Letterman was cancelled 10 years ago and today they attempted a resurrection, I imagine it would be welcomed back very well.

Only time will tell if these 2 reunion shows will be just a quick fly over memory lane or if we’ll end up reliving the whole adventure once more.

  4. Tim: – He was always invited from the get-go, but with Molly still under contract with 7, it has taken some time and effort to convince Mr Leckie to let him go over for the show.

  5. About time; more networks should be leniant in letting their contracts stars cross over to different networks; it would be a much fairer batting ground.

They allow this to happen in the US I don’t see why not here.

  6. They could have always gotten Gavin Wood back, but I’m glad Molly will be there.

I would love to see Ossie back, but I somehow doubt Ernie will want to revive him.
