Julian Morrow to deliver Andrew Olle Media lecture

The co-founder of The Chaser will deliver one of the country's most prestigious media lectures.

jmThe Chaser‘s Julian Morrow has been announced as the speaker for this year’s Andrew Olle Media Lecture.

His announcement by ABC Radio as 2009 guest follows the 2008 speaker, Ray Martin.

“Each year we pay tribute to Andrew Olle: both the man and the principles embodied in his work” said James O’Brien, Local Content Manager, 702 ABC Sydney.

“In a period of rapid change in the media, as new platforms and business models emerge, we feel it’s also important to remember the need for good journalism and independent thought, as exemplified in Andrew’s work. Julian’s lecture is bound to give all of those attending, or listening and watching via the ABC, much to think about.”

Morrow has been a writer, performer and producer of a decade’s worth of Chaser Annuals, multiple radio programs, touring live stage shows and has turned the business of The Chaser into a multi-media success story.

Previous speakers have included John Hartigan, Senator Helen Coonan, John Doyle, Chris Anderson, Harold Mitchell AO, Lachlan Murdoch, Kerry Stokes AO, Eric Beecher, Steve Vizard, John Alexander, Jana Wendt and David Williamson.

The lecture, held in honour of the respected and much-loved ABC broadcaster Andrew Olle who died of a brain tumour in 1995,  focuses on the role and future of the media, as well as raising money for neuroscience research.

The event will be audio-streamed live on the web and digital radio Friday 6 November at 9pm then broadcast in Sydney on 702 ABC Sydney, Saturday 7 November at 11.00am.

It will also be televised nationally on ABC1 on Sunday 8 November 2009.
