Supernatural creator eyes 2010 finale (kinda…)

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke sees his series ending in May 2010. But doesn't exactly shut the door on a sixth season, either.

supernaturalSupernatural creator Eric Kripke plans to end his series in May 2010. Kinda…

“I did set out [to] tell a five-season storyline,” he told EW.com. “Quite frankly, I never expected [the show] to make it to five years. But now that we’re in our fifth year, I have every intention of ending the story with a bang and not drawing it out or watering it down.”

“That having been said,” Kripke continues, “I’m looking at this season as the last chapter in this particular story. That doesn’t mean there can’t be a new story. Buffy did it. The X-Files did it. You close a chapter on a big mythology storyline and then you begin a new one.”

Which kinda sounds like an each way bet, really. Or is this just more of the increasing trend to ‘use the media while we negotiate the deals?’ So far the CW Network hasn’t agreed to a 6th season.

If it does continue beyond season five, Kripke is uncommital about whether he would remain involved, saying he would cross that bridge when he comes to it.

“One of the things I like about this show is we don’t draw out mysteries endlessly,” he adds. “We’ll answer a bunch of questions this season and then pose some new ones next season.”

Series 5 begins in the US next week. Cue the Aussie fans badgering TEN.

  1. I love Supernatural, and have always loved it, and will continue to be a massive fan of the series even when Kripke ends it. But I don’t want the character Dean Winchester to leave our TV screens just yet, and the same goes for Castiel. I don’t want Supernatural to end, but in all honesty, maybe going out with a bang in S5 would be better than continuing, so the fans don’t feel cheated. I was expecting at least 7 seasons, because Supernatural is a quality show, with great storylines and phenomenal acting by one of the most underrated actors ever, Jensen Ackles.

  2. RichoTB, what the hell are you talking about? It’s improved every season, with the mythology aspect getting bigger and better. Every season has had its filler episodes, but there’s no doubt season five will be the absolute best regardless.

  3. I’m with Craig, stuff waiting for channel 10, especially since they’re not “fast-tracking” it.

    It’s back next week!!!!!!!!! I can’t wait.

Unfortunately for those who wait for channel 10……..it’s back next year???

  4. I didn’t start off loving the show from day 1, but i grew to like and appreciate it over time. Can’t wait to see how the season progresses and how the story is wrapped up.

  5. They should have ended this show after season two when the main storyline wrapped up and they killed the demon who killed their mother. Since then the quality has been laughable and its been the same old, formulaic, “demon of the week” crap. At least shows like Buffy had a real arc and characters that developed, and none of this repetitive crap. And no, I don’t count “Sam is turning evil, now he’s not turning evil” and “Dean is going to hell, now he’s not going to hell, now he’s in hell, now he’s out of hell” as a legitimate story arc. Not to mention it rates terribly, 500k week after week is horrendous. They may as well replace it with 90210. Another terrible show, but it would probably rate higher and appeal to a larger audience.

  6. Let me start the fan badgering =D
Ten better hurry up and air season 5. They messed us around at the start of the year, then we forgave them a bit when they managed to show the last 14 episodes in a row (Although the time shifts got a bit annoying) so now this season is make or break I think, either they get on top of it and regain our trust or we just find another way of watching it.
