7TWO to launch November 1st

It's official. Seven's new digital channel 7TWO will be a broad entertainment channel with new seasons of Lost, Ugly Betty, Heroes and 24.

72Channel Seven has unveiled its free-to-air digital channel 7TWO, a broad entertainment channel set to launch on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at 12noon on Channel 72.

Channel Seven’s Director of Programming and Production Tim Worner said, “I am pleased to announce that 7TWO will be the new home for premiere episodes of our international hits including J.J Abrams’ Lost, Ugly Betty, Heroes and 24,” said Worner.

“We’ve been strategic in putting together a program schedule for 7TWO that allows us to grow our audience between our two channels, without sacrificing one for the other. It is a complementary relationship that will go from strength to strength maximising the opportunities for our audience and clients.”

Other titles including The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Murphy Brown will screen on the channel alongside new, primetime episodes of The Jay Leno Show, five nights a week.

7TWO will feature British television including A Touch of Frost, Prime Suspect, Judge John Deed, Rosemary & Thyme and Minder to premiere episodes of motoring hit Fifth Gear, Heartbeat, Holby Blue, Benidorm, Gavin & Stacey and Britain’s Best Dish.

Additional themed nights of programming include Action & Adventure, Lifestyle and Movies with family titles from Disney’s studios.

Cooking programmes include Jamie Oliver, Curtis Stone, Rick Stein, Ainsley Harriott and Gary Rhodes on Monday to Friday afternoons.

There are new and classic programs – including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Shortland Street, The Martha Stewart Show, Home and Away: The Early Years, Sons and Daughters, Magnum PI and Moonlighting – complete the channel’s daytime schedule.

Channel Seven also announced popular television presenter Tom Williams as the face of 7TWO.

“What I love about 7TWO is the great mix of the new and classic. I’m a big Leno fan so it will be great to be able catch that on a daily basis. And I can’t wait to see how the last season of Lost unravels,” he said.

“It’s fair to say I’ll be booking in some extra time on the couch. I can’t wait for it all to kick off.”

To watch 7TWO, tune into channel 72 on a high definition digital television or on analogue or standard definition digital television connected to a digital set top box.

  1. How slack that the top US shows are going straight to their second channel … very unfair to the majority of viewers who do not have Digital and the cowards way out of needing strong ratings for these shows … !!! (Do the majority of viewers Not have digital???)
    Jack!

  2. I don’t think this will hurt GO!, its really aimed at their 7 audience (despite what they are saying). Moving Lost, Heroes etc to 72 is interesting and may annoy some viewers. Playing British shows during the day is only going to take from the daytime audience they have now. Hit US sitcoms primetime is going to do the same.

  3. This is a major disappointment. Lost is the only thing that appeals. The rest is just filler that couldn’t find a place on the main channel. No imagination or innovation.

  4. No guarantees Jay Leno is before Comedy Ch yet. 6pm doesn’t necc. mean same day and date. I will look into it.

The line about high-def set to box was straight from 7 press release, but I have amended it (breaking news hence the line about This Post Updates). God there is so much news around this week arghhhh…

  5. They are showing The Jay Leno Show before the Comedy Channel. Foxtel will be a little peeved at that. I’m guessing they would have got Hulk Hogan to do a promo for American Gladiators while he was out here recently. Looks pretty good.

  6. That daytime lineup of British and NZ soaps is rubbish- like something from the 1970s. They should’ve had Leno and the lifestyle stuff in the early afternoon and scheduled classics from 4 to 6pm. Have they released the post midnight schedule? Hoping for repeats of the prime time shows.

  7. I think what Richard W is trying to say is that one of the last lines of the article says that to watch 7TWO you need a HD box, when an SD box will suffice.

  8. It’s SD – if you look on the yahoo7 page about it, it says 7HD remains as is, so this can’t be HD (as they only have one HD channel).

The last line in the tvtonight article is a bit misleading….

  9. doesn’t nine have the rights to the sopranos and six feet under…?

it looks like the age demographic for this channel is quite broad ….

with 24 and lost for young and emmerdale and coro for the old.

Again i assume coro street, shortland street and emmerdale and martha stewart are new shows not old eps?

  10. “To watch 7TWO, tune into channel 72 on a high definition digital television or on analogue or standard definition digital television connected to a high definition set top box.”

David, 7TWO is SD not HD.

  11. Could someone please tell me if it is new episodes of coronation street and shortland street as my mum will watch these shows…

I like coro street and shortland street…….but if it is old eps … then no way will i watch 10 year old eps.

  12. Nice to have Leno in primetime. 🙂

I also did a mock and had Home And Away The Early Years scheduled for afternoons and prehaps an omnibus of the previous weeks Home and Away scheduled Saturday Mornings for people to catch up similar to what they do in the UK.

I hope Prime pick up the channel 🙂

  13. wow!
