FOX8 has picked up the Sam Raimi-produced fantasy series Legend of the Seeker.
Filmed entirely in New Zealand, it stars Australian actors Craig Horner (Blue Water High), Jay Laga’aia (Water Rats, Xena, Star Wars – Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith), Jessica Marais (Packed to the Rafters), along with Bruce Spence (The Matrix Revolutions) and Craig Parker (The Lord of the Rings).
It premiered in November 2008.
The series follows productions Raimi’s Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. Based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind, it follows the story of mountain guide Richard Cypher (Horner) who is thrust into an epic adventure after falling in love with Kahlan Amnell (Bridget Regan) – a beautiful woman with magical powers that are dangerous to any man she loves. With the help of a wise Wizard named Zedd (Spence), they set out to stop the evil ruler Darken Rahl (Parker) from capturing a magic box that will give him ultimate power.
Craig Horner said, “As an actor, it’s been a dream come true to work with Sam Raimi and a company like Disney and I’m grateful they have shown such faith in me, my fellow cast mates and crew to keep this exciting series going and continue to broaden the audience worldwide.”
It premieres on FOX8 Sunday November 29th at 6.30pm.

the dvd boxset says region 1 usa. can you play the dvd’s in australia? and more than just a couple of times?
I Can’t Wait!! If this series is half as good as the books this will be the best tv show Australia has seen in a long time!!!!
LOTS fans!!! Starting in US supposedly Nov. 7th. Looking forward to season
beginning. (It’s been forever!!!) If other readers like Bridget and Craig…go to portraitmagazine.net They are running a survey and vote for Bridget and Craig …they were nominated for best actors under the age of 30…Vote for them!!!! I enjoy both Craigs….but CH has my total attention!! 🙂 Super series. DVD set is great too. Wish there had been commentary on some of the
other episodes….Fun to hear them chat….HOpe all of you enjoy LOTS too.
Oh about time! Seriously Australia… Finger, thing you sit on… extraction time!
Lol, they don’t mention Bridget Regan as one of lead actor, btw she’s great in role of Kahlan, one of the most important charackter and one of main reason why I still watch the show. J. Marais is also great in role Denna, but she’s only in two episode, if I recall right. In short, good escapism in the world of magic and true romance.
Also grabbed the DVDs from the US.
Can’t wait for season 2 to start in November! Rumours suggest we’ll get to see at least a little more of Jessica Marais (and plenty more Mord Sith).
Interesting timing by Foxtel. I assumed that Ch 7 would have shown this on FTA.
My dvd boxset of ‘Legend of the Seeker s1’ just arrived this week via Amazon.com, as I’d preordered it months ago, when I had no clue how long it was to be shown here, despite it being filmed in NZ & stars alot of Aussie & Kiwi Actors!!
I wonder til we’ll see s2?.
argh, i wanted to see this i was hoping a FTA would show it.
Holy crap, I have been waiting o long for this! I thought we’d’ve gotten it sooner given it seems to be a New Zealand production. I still won’t be able to see it though, since it’s on PayTV… *sigh*
Yeah, Neon Kitten, she’s only in 2. But very memorable performances they are.
Awesome series. Glad further Australians will be given the opportunity to see it. Jessica’s character couldn’t be a further departure from Rachel in Packed to the Rafters, and is oh so sexy. Craig Horner also spends much of the series topless, which should delight females and some males alike.
I have seen the first 14 episodes and I rather like it especially Bridget Regan.
Jessica Marais fans expecting more warm homey goodness are going to get a bit of a shock when they see this, as that photo implies 😀
She’s actually not in very many episodes, if I recall.
