Come back, Jacki.

By David Knox on October 3, 2009 / Filed Under News 24

hh4Hey – it’s Saturday! And still no confirmation of Jacki MacDonald’s appearance next Wednesday on the final reunion for Hey Hey it’s Saturday.

And that’s despite even the on-air pleading from Daryl Somers.

These days MacDonald spends her time being a mum actively involved in the world of horsing.

Former co-hosts Jo Beth Taylor, Penne Dennison and Denise Drysdale are all set for the special, but McDonald has not confirmed.

Also set to appear is Harry Connick Jr, before his Australian Idol appearance a few days later.

Somers told the Herald Sun if the show returned next year it could mean a new team.

“If we do come back there’ll be new people, new media, new segments but with the same Hey Hey flavour.”

He said even Red Faces could continue without Symons – if necessary – next year.

“Red Faces wasn’t named after Red you know,” he said.

“It was a play on New Faces, the show I started on.

“If we had to find a new judge, I’m not sure what form that would be in – it wouldn’t necessarily have to be a nasty judge.”

Symons has reportedly said he was “definitely’ open to the possibility of returning to Hey Hey.

If the show does return in some form in 2010 the network would doubtless be keen for it as a mid-week programme, where it can attract the biggest audience. Maybe it could even run against Packed to the Rafters, the same night Dancing with the Stars pulled a big following for Somers on Seven.

Hey Hey its Saturday would run mid-week extremely well – Wednesday night seems a great time for this show. No need to change the name – this program is an aussie institution – Well done to Nine, Daryl and his team for bringing it back with all the fun and magic that it always had. Hopefully Jackie will join in come Wednesday night – she was an inspiration and is very much respected across the country.

Channel 9 are now even airing ads asking ‘Will Jacki be Back?’

yay, everyone loves telling those minority of people against Hey Hey of what they are missing. A sin on all those who watch that “disaster chef” show or whatever its called…

I remember hearing of a “fake” ChookLotto, for the second reunion special, I’d expect she’ll be back for that.

I might watch it later (a friend recorded the first one and will have the second) but I won’t be watching this week as there is to much else on that night…

I’m sorry, but Red Faces with no Red just isn’t going to fly.

Sorry Craig, I reckon we’ll all still be watching.

I don’t care if Jacki is one next week or not since Nine dumped the re-run tonight!!!

People should not watch int second on in protest, who’s with me?

It would be nice of Jacki did come back….but it’s all up to her, we can’t force her!

If she decides not to come back then get Gina Riley to do her best Jacki impersonation – even Jacki said that Gina does her better than she does herself!

Seriously I enjoyed the Hey Hey Reunion more than I thought I would – was very fast paced and most importantly didn’t resort too much to endless nostalgia clips which would have been very easy to do. It was fresh and new whilst feeling like old times all at once. Seeing Raymond J Bartholemew and his young protege together again was a nice touch.

If it does come back I’m tipping it will be a 5 or 6 shows per year deal. That way it would be possible for Molly, Red etc to appear in them without having to bring in new members…watch this space.

But next Wednesday’s special will rate its socks off – especially if Ossie puts in an appearance.

Jacki, if you are reading this, don’t listen to the nay sayers about your looks, lovely women like yourself should grace our screens more often and I for one would love to see you back. A hey hey reunion would never be the same without you, no other female could hold a torch to your infectious laughter and beautiful smile after you left the show. Come back please !!! Who’s with me?

If Hey Hey comes back I’d watch it… They should play it on Sunday’s to compete with the bland Rove Live.

@Glenn: They probably said a similar thing when the Women’s Weekly became a monthly magazine, but sometimes the brand name becomes bigger than common sense :-)

Jacki appeared on QTQ’s 50th Anniversary show in August.

Looks pretty much the same (even same haircut). A few more facial wrinkles, but that is to be expected. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of.

David Knox: “If the show does return in some form in 2010 the network would doubtless be keen for it as a mid-week programme”

If that happens, then it wouldn’t be called “Hey Hey It’s Saturday”.

Fantastastic News and I’m led to believe Jacki Mac will be back all being well next Wednesday. Yippee !!

  19. Chris M October 3, 2009 at 11:14 am -

Kyle Sandilands could be the new nasty judge! lol

  20. Boy Wonder October 3, 2009 at 11:12 am -

I have loved Jackie since I was a kid. I would love to see her regardless of how she looks. So long as she brings her personality and humour I am there.

  21. John Jackson October 3, 2009 at 11:00 am -

Oh.. when they do get themselves in order to returning it permanently, I really do hope Red is part of that. He’s always been there hanging with Wilbur, or on Red Faces…. c’mon Red get done whatever is needed to be a permanent part of it again!

Mid week is definitely a good move! No-one is home on a saturday night – that’s why ratings suck on Saturdays.
Only thing that does well on a Saturday is sport

  23. Jase72 October 3, 2009 at 8:26 am -

eerr mid week? i do not think the true fans would like that, i am on the facebook group and they all want it back on a Saturday. And Red does ABC 774 Breakfast and starts at 5:30am each weekday.

Somehow I don’t think Jacki’s television face has kept up as well as Daryl’s and the rest of the gang, hence her apprehension.
