The Simpsons is offering fans the chance to create a brand new character for Springfield.
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary, FOX is giving one lucky contest winner a chance that money can’t buy.
The new Springfield resident will appear in an early 2010 episode featuring Chris Martin of Coldplay as guest star.
The contest closes on Oct ober 24th.
Online submissions at thesimpsons.com should be “pithy and funny,” said executive producer Al Jean, who will help judge them along with series creator Matt Groening.
You also have to describe a name, catchphrase, distinguishing features, blood type (just in case) brief description.
The winner also gets to meet Simpsons artists in Los Angeles.
“It’s gotta be a human being. We’ve narrowed it down that much,” Jean said.

No Mention in this article that this competition is for US Only!
They already made one Her Name is Ashlee Simpson.Singer
Maggie Outta My Head
Mike Retter is 100% right! The Simpsons these days is complete garbage.
I’d think Fox will iSnack2.0 this contest. I’d be not surprised if Fox has already drawings up of the new character, and is using the Australian “Vegemite Name Me” concept to decide a winner.
In other words, If you are expecting a second Mr Burns, you may end up with a Mosquito Man companion for Bumblebee Man…
Pitty I’m not American. If I could enter, I would call him Oakley Doakley Flanders. He would be related to Ned Flanders as his Long lost twin brother and he would live next to Homer, who in turn would be stuck between the Flanders’s. His catch phrase would be “Howdly idly didly” and he in turn would drive Homer mad.
Oh come on. The new episodes aren’t that bad. I am hoping that Judge Harm will make another appearance.
Getting the public to create a new character does seem like a good idea, pity the contest is only open to those in America. Although maybe Paul is right about it being just to boost ratings. Maybe the character should have a behavioural disabilty. I know that Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) has been done but there’s Autism / Asperger’s Syndrome, Down’s Syndrome, Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or AD/HD), Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), etc.
I wounder if they are looking more towards adults or kids.
I’ve just made one, his name is Peter Griffen, lives in Rhode Island and he owns a talking dog.
I really hope they end the simpsons ASAP. Loved the mid nineties episode, but now days… :S
an Aussie!
Maybe the next 10 will be better?
This is crap. I love the first ten years but the last Ten have bean crud. The show has become what it has always hated and parodied -mediocrity. Ughh! The writing is so bad and even the animation is harsh on the eyes. Kill this show already.
BTW I love the first ten years as much as anything else.

Ah man that ruins my character, a cool and hip dog called Poochie.
You have to be an American citizen to enter.
This has Poochie (ie: the Itchy & Scratchy “new character” that Home wound up voicing) written all over it!!
