K9: trailer

And here's a look at the Doctor Who spin-off that has been filming in Brisbane.

k9_01A new trailer has been released for K9, the series spin-off from Doctor Who.

The series has been shot in Brisbane mixing computer animation and live action

Set about 40 years into the future, Brisbane doubles as a ‘future London’. London icons including St Pauls and Trafalgar Square are CGI inserted in between buildings.

John Leeson is the voice of K9, a part he originated in the 1970s.

Bob Baker, who wrote many Doctor Who episodes and Wallace and Gromit films, has written the new series. There are 26  half hour episodes.

K9 is expected to air in early 2010 on TEN and on Disney XD in Europe.

  1. @Michael As I’m pretty sure this show fulfils Ten’s Australian children’s TV programming requirements you can bet it will be screened in full. Not in prime time, of course. Maybe Fridays at 4pm?

  2. Wow looks thrilling.

I remember late last year, I was given the opportunity to audition for this as they were searching throughout Brisbane schools for talent.

The main girl in the trailer was actually in my acting class last year and I remember her telling me that she had gotten the role. It’s pretty cool to finally see her on film. Can’t wait to see the whole series.

  3. Michael of course it will air the full twenty six episodes. In Britain it is airing on a childrens cable network where ratings really will not influence shows futures, and here in Australia it will just be chucked on at 7am on a sunday morning, or on toasted tv. Toasted TV remains on air because it appeals to a niche market, focusing on much younger demographics than Sunrise and Today – ratings really wont play a part in this shows future. Channels are generally much less ruthless when it comes to shows that are both out of primetime and aimed at children.

  4. Raise your hand if you think this will get through the full 26 episodes?? The fact this is K9 doesn’t make a great deal of sense if they choose to connect this to you the new Dr Who series since K9 was on Gallifrey and Gallifrey doesn’t exist

  5. OMG!!!!
That is fantastic … it gave me goosebumps … who cares if it is a kids show … I have always adored K9 and now he, like Sarah Jane Smith, has his own show … I love it, I can’t wait!!!! That has made my month!
    Jack!

  6. Tim – The reason why K9 here look so different is because the K9 series is not made by the BBC hence why the new look.

It has been explained elsewhere the K9 here is Mark I after he left Leela.

  7. How are they going to explain to 5 year olds how Sarah Jane’s K9 is completely different design to this new one? Especially if the old K9 features more prominently in the new series of SJA

  8. @Tim, K-9 looks different bacuse although Bob Baker owns the character rights, the BBC owns the original design. The BBC decided not to get involved in the new series. According to Bob Baker, K-9 will be K-9 mark I (last seen with Leela, a companion to the fourth doctor) and will undergo some form of ‘regeneration’ in the pilot to the new design.

  9. Do you mean early 2010 David?

I’m a bit over Dr Who stuff, I think it jumped the shark at Torchwood – series 1 good, series 2 declined rapidly.

Might give this a go though. I always liked K9.

  10. Probably too obvious to mention and not that i mind but someo9ne will sayit eventualy.

“K9 is expected to air in early 2009 on TEN and on Disney XD in Europe.:”

Do you mean early 2010, as its already late 2009.

I hope they explain why K9 looks quite different (maybe its a K9 mark 10 or something and has no relation to the Doctor or Sarah Janes K9)
