Matt Saville to direct Cloudstreet

msDirector Matthew Saville will direct Cloudstreet for the Showcase Channel.

The 6 hour miniseries about two working class Australian families in Perth, 1943, will be adapted by its author Tim Winton and writer Ellen Fontana and produced by Screentime.

Saville’s credits include Tangle, The King, The Surgeon, The Secret Life of Us, We Can Be Heroes and the feature film Noise.

Screentime’s Des Monaghan said “We are delighted to have Matt on board for this incredibly important production of Tim Winton’s iconic novel. We are all aware of everyone’s high expectations and we believe that, in Matt, we have someone with the talent and track record who is right for this challenging assignment”.

Perth-based Herbert Pinter (Mao’s Last Dancer, The Contract, Paradise Road, Black Robe) has been appointed as series Production Designer.

Pre-production commencing on November 16 with filming to begin in 2010.

    Please, please, please keep “clloudstreet” as raw & australian as the book. it will break my heart if that is lost! hoping classic aussie actors are cast .

    Can’t wait. One of my all time favourite books. Hope TV can re-create the novel’s essence and spirit.

    7TWO, Go! and ABC2 should be buying the repeat rights to these cable series.

    Would be a great way to have more (well, any) Australian content!
