NBC picks up 3 titles

By David Knox on October 25, 2009 / Filed Under News 12

communityNBC dished out full season pick-ups to three of it titles on Friday: the comedy Community, Mercy and the Kath & Kim replacement, Parks and Recreation. All three have been modest performers, but the order buys them time to potentially improve their ratings.

The network, however, left its other medical drama Trauma off the list.

Community stars Joel McHale as a fast-talkin’ lawyer whose degree has been revoked. With some help from his fellow classmates, he forms a study group who eventually learn more about themselves than their course work. It also features Chevy Chase.

Nine has the Australian rights to the single camera comedy.

Mercy, which is already airing on Seven, is being touted as a potentially strong player for NBC, boosting its timeslot  by 37% compared with the previous season.

Recent comedy Parks and Recreation, which was hurried to screens following the failure of Kath & Kim, is said to have taken a giant creative leap this season.

Meanwhile the struggling Trauma, also due for Seven. could be replaced by Chuck.

was so excited to hear about community being picked up for the back nine…and the i read ‘Nine has the Australian rights to the single camera comedy’

well that brings an end to that i guess…

NBC comedies r great i don’t get why they are treated like sh*t is Aus-30 Rock, the Office, P&R and until recently Scrubs. the only one (recently) that has been given a decent time slot is My Name is Earl. the way NBC lets these shows build is great the aussie networks could learn something.
hopefully 9 gives Community a chance-what am i even saying its not a CBS comedy…guess i’ll just get the DVD when i’m in the States…

Community has been improving each week, started off as ok, but now i really like it.

Parks and Recreation, i watched the first few episodes and didn’t like it at all. I have then seen a couple of more recent episodes and it seems to have gotten better.

Community is the funniest new show in years. I haven’t seen Parks and Recreation yet. Is Seven planning to show it during Summer?

I saw the pilot of Community and thought it was overrated. A shame as its gotten near-universal positive reviews, but when I watched it I chuckled around three times the entire episode. Even 2.5 men is more amusing.

I wanted to like it, but the characters were so jaded and shallow that I couldn’t get into it. I’ll stick with HIMYM and The Office.

I agree that Community is hilarious (who sits in a room for 26 hours waiting?!). Sometimes NBC doing so horribly is actually a benefit to shows, because by CBS or FOX standards, it would definitely be cancellation material unless nearing syndication.

    Yay! Chuck!

Trauma is pretty terrible…. the opening scene is soooo far fetched it kind of sets the tone of the actual series. Great scenery shots of San Fran but the show is let down with the writing.
Id be putting this on 7TWO if i was working at 7

Community is hilarious but why even bother Nine?

We know you will show it once or twice and pull it because it didn’t rate over 4 million viewers….

parks and recreation is fantastic – the first series was brilliantly done, so if it has made a ‘giant creative leap’ then that must mean the second series is incredible! i hope it is picked up here. everyone who works in government will be awe struck by its accuracy.

Community is hilarious, great to hear we will get more episodes

So hopefully Mercy sticks around long enough to improve the local ratings…

Any chance Kath and Kim will come to 7TWO? Ditto for Knight Rider, October Road and any other shows Seven has shafted recently…
