Rove: time out in 2010

As previously tipped, Rove (the show) will be taking time off in 2010.

rmThe Herald Sun yesterday confirmed a radio tip on Monday that Rove will be taking time out from TEN in 2010.

“McManus has decided to delay the return of his self-titled talk show until later next year,” it noted.

One suggestion is that Roving Enterprises is looking to focus on The 7PM Project, which is understood to be continuing through summer.

Next week TEN has its 2010 program launch in which it will have to clarify more of its brands for February and beyond.

The network has previously indicated a desire to strip The Biggest Loser and MasterChef Australia from 7:30pm following The 7PM Project. Based on figures thus far that would be a risk, but summer buys the network more time to tweak its format.

Roving also produces Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader? and Before the Game for TEN -the latter continues to enjoy good word of mouth.

TV Tonight hears the final episode of Rove this year on November 15 will still be shot at ABC Studios, but with a very different set-up….

  1. The only problem is if they change 7pm Project to 6pm Project they have to go back to the drawing board to find something new for 7pm.
Though it doesn’t sound like a bad option given that the Simpsons at 6pm with a few exceptions have been done all over to death many times over and we need a change.
They could show some old british comedies as a 7pm offering

  2. @ KFed – the comment never said anything about ten as a network. Just mentioned lowest common denominator tv in general which covers all channels not just 10.

  3. I think too many people are on Rove – love the new girl Kristy; could do without Ryan; tkae or leave Judith; more H&A ( they couldn’t carry a show on their own – as they have proven but great regular guests)
Need to do more really live interviews in studio – more spontenaity and hey Ch 10 – how about more promotion and a better time slot???

  4. I used to love the show ‘Rove Live’. Everything about it was great, the opening jokes Rove did, What The?, Flick Your Switch, Rons Review, 2 Minutes at Your House, the get John Howard on plan, it was a weekly routine, 9.30 every Tuesday. And Peter Helliar was funny.

I watched most of the first season of ‘Rove’, but now haven’t seen an episode for a few years. The timeslot is stupid, the show has lost everything that I liked about it. Can’t they just make ‘Rove Live’ again?

  5. Rove has always been smart to put funny people around him to disguise the fact that he’s completely unfunny. Peter Hellya, Hughsey, Hamish and Andy etc. and geniunely great talent. I’ve yet to hear a Rove monologue that raises a smile, let alone a laugh.

  6. His show is one of the few other than Letterman or Jay Leno I don’t mind viewing.

God help them if the 7pm Project Fails and they have to go back to the drawing board for something new and fresh.
They have done all the now gone US Sitcoms to death so that is not an option which leaves them with Little Britain or Jamie Oliver Cooking Shows

  7. Oh well, I wasn’t a huge fan of Rove anyway.

I still find it strange that 10 want to move The Biggest Loser and MasterChef from 7pm. Maybe it could be:
    7:00pm – The 7pm Project
    7:30pm – The Biggest Loser/Masterchef
    8:30pm – Other shows
or they could do something to fix up their 6-7pm line-up, idk

  8. Hopefully it won’t be too long away. Very sad too if Hey Hey isn’t back in the meantime. I love Rove and Hey Hey and we need variety shows like those for Australian and overseas talent.

  9. @koverstreet and Goonies Oh yes, Rove really brings down the tone of the otherwise high-brow Ten Network.

@Zambora Dave Hughes hasn’t been on the show for some time now. Regulars Judith Lucy, Hamish & Andy and Ryan Shelton alternate weeks.

  10. This is awful news, as I’m a huge fan of his work. Hopefully, this will give time for audiences to miss it and want it back. Say what you will, but the show is doing something right.

  11. Rove’s 10 Year episode was filmed the day before. I think it needs to go back to being Live….. not “as Live”…. but actually Live.

@Josh – I like Paul but i went to a taping a few months back and he comes across as a very Mean guy in real life…. i dont know if it is a persona or if he is actually like that but he wasnt very keen on the audience.
