SBS wins United Nations Media Peace Awards

SBS has won all 3 television categories at the annual Australian United Nations Media Peace Awards.

david_osheaSBS won all 3 television categories at the annual Australian United Nations Media Peace Awards in Melbourne on the weekend.

Yalda Hakim won Best Television News for her series of personal stories on Afghanistan for World News Australia defeating ABC News report ‘The Long March.’

In its 25th year, Dateline Video Journalist David O’Shea (pictured) won the Current Affairs Award for his story “Bali Shame”, an investigation into the treatment of psychiatric patients in Bali. The other SBS finalists in this category, Yaara Bou Melhem and Aaron Thomas, received a special judge’s commendation for their Dateline story: “Jordan: Jailing the Innocent.” ABC TV Asia Pacific Focus was also a contender for ‘Ramsi Future.’

First Australians winning the Documentary prize for producers Rachel Perkins and Darren Dale ahead of Four Corners and Foreign Correspondent.

Director of News and Current Affairs, Paul Cutler, said, “SBS has continued to prove that we are not afraid to tell stories from around the world that other networks often disregard. Our news gives viewers an insight into important global issues and we are proud of the many accolades our journalists have received.”
