Seven today announced the appointment of a Channel Sales Operations Manager for its impending digital channel.
Lisa Squillace, who was previously Group Sales Manager at Nine for four years, will take up the role.
Squillace was also at TEN for five years before this.
Seven’s Director of Sales, Kurt Burnette said, “The unveiling of our new digital channel is fast-approaching.
“Lisa’s role in the new channel and her experience in sales combined with her capacity to think and integrate across media assets will work in seamlessly with the Seven Sales and SMG Red team culture of breakthrough ideas, delivering results for clients.”
The channel will appear on the 72 band.
The network is yet to reveal a start-up date.

i reckon it’ll be called ‘prime’
@Paull, but 7 squared is 49 not 72, so that wouldn’t make sense. If they called it 7² there would be great backlash from perfectionists highlighting that fact, and they’d be forced into a “iSnack 2.0” situation, as it were.
@tasmanian devil : There’s always the chance that they will put it on 77 aswell, just like ONEhd is also on Channel 11, like Channel 11, they might not advertise the fact that 72 is also on 77. As it is, why do we have to have 71, 72 and 73??? Just keep 07 and 70 like nine have done.
Anyway I agree that the 2 must be incorporated in the new 7 channel somehow. Might thoughts are the channel might be called 7 (squared) and the 2 would be raised to represent that, so 72 would make sense.
I think (but not hope) it will be called 7 Two and here’s my reasoning. As kurt mentioned, why can’t 7 put the channel on 77? I’m thinking it’s because they want to call it 7 Two and make the LCN match the name. Other than that it’s illogical to have it on channel 72, because in the space of time it takes to move your finger from the 7 button to the 2 button, one sees something eye/ear-catching and refrains from switching the channel. Far fetched yes but that’s the tricks of the trade.
i was discussing this with insiders. a few weeks back. didn’t get much info but if this is any use: 72 is the official “working title” which i think cancels the chance that it would be the final title. by the sounds of it there is a lot of work going on right now re it.
if it is ‘mate’ is sounds like an australian adaption of UK’s ‘dave’ which last time i checked is quite successful. but sounds like a 4th or 5th priority not as the 2nd digital.
Anyone got any idea what TAAM is? It was registered by Seven after all of 7PLUS, 7TWO etc and before Mate. I wonder if they are just laughing at us with all these registrations…
Well thank god for that David, “mate” is such a ridiculous name, i would prefer 7two or 7plus over mate.
Seven should just announce it and stop playing games.
Pathetic seven pathetic.
@David well thank god for that!
I’m hearing whispers Mate is not the name of Seven’s new digital channel.
Don’t know why we are all getting frustrated that this channel is not broadcasting yet. It will only be repeats or shows that where shafted by Channel Seven.
Although sport is not everyones cup of tea, I applaude Ten for actually releasing a “real” multi channel and not just a bucket channel to throw all the scrappy shows away into.
What ever the name of the channel Seven names it, I hope the people enjoy that channel. I cannot see it coming to Darwin for a long time, so I hope people enjoy the channel while they can.
Channel Mate,
the “tool box” channel?
the blokes channel?
The Rob Palmer channel? sounds a bit lifestyle-ish.
stop the leaks, and announce the bloody thing.
pathetic seven pathetic
“channel mate” makes it sound like it’ll be Seven’s version of Discovery. Ugh.
i liked it better when Seven said/leaked that their channel would have a lifestyle focus.
aaron.. not quite true 😉 but if you want to take this further….. the reason is because everyone else is leaving nine!!!!
“channel mate”!!?!?!?! sounds as laughable as “isnack 2.0”
Oh sorry i forgot,
pathetic seven pathetic
Mate! sounds like it will be an Aussie channel.
Seven has put Channel Mate on ip Australia
let’s hope it’s not full of Australian stuff
not home and away marathons
As long as they launch before the end of the year…
I find it ironic that Stokes, who was the one that argued for the ability to multi-channel when the digital TV leglisation was being written will be the last to start a proper multi-channel.
why channel 72? thats just stupid 7. its a lot easier to click 7 twice than clicking 7 then moving your finger to the two!
Yes Michael agreed.
Seven really have slipped on this one and when they cant find someone good enough form there own stable, where do they again turn to? Nine….
I have heard thats a few people in the Networks Sales Dept aren’t that happy they were over looked for this appointment……. 🙁
“Fast approaching” eleven or so months late, what a joke.
just saw an article on media spy about some new trademarks registered by 7 revolving around “channel mate” and variations of that.
Just launch the damn thing already. This whole thing of “we’re going to play it low to create talk” isn’t working and people are getting pi**ed off.
As the slogan goes, “pathetic seven pathetic”
