Spin-off city

US networks are developing spin-offs for Criminal Minds and Ice Road Truckers.

cmLast night NCIS: Los Angeles had its Aussie debut, and more spin-offs are on the drawing board in the US.

CBS is planning a spinoff from Criminal Minds, expected to feature a new team of FBI agents.

The show’s executive producer Chris Mundy will be writing the spinoff, which will air as an episode of Criminal Minds next year.

Meanwhile the History Channel is making Extreme Trucking, which takes the Ice Road Truckers format to locations worldwide where truckers navigate hazardous highways.

“There’s an endless supply of dangerous roads, and they’re in places where they’re highly unregulated,” says History’s Nancy Dubuc.

  1. @ Jerome. Criminal Minds does quite well for CBS, it’s stronger than all CSI’s in the 18-49 demo, and had 15 million viewers last week, which is very strong.

I can understand the reasoning behind immitating a successful format, hell CBS are the king of it as evident with CSI and NCIS. But it is very unimaginitive. It somewhat works with the CSI’s/NCIS’ because they are restricted to specific cities, Criminal Minds however travel to all cities throughout the US in each episode. I can’t see how a spin off could be any different from the original.

  2. CM has never been very big for CBS, enough for it to keep getting renued but nothing compared to the NCIS/CSI’s. u’d think a 3rd spinoff for CSI would take priority over a CM spinoff.

  3. CBS is crime procedural spin off central.

Like Criminal Minds, I assume it would be produced by abc studios, which would make it another Seven acquisition.

  4. I remeber when last years development cycle begin, there was a spin-off planned for both NCIS & Criminal Minds, but the NCIS was picked, not the Criminal Minds one.

So it seems like CBS are planning a second shot at a spin-off.
