I think a sci-fi channel (including a healthy dose of sci-fi based Anime) would be relatively popular.

It’s most likely going to be a Ten spin off channel in the same vien 7TWO is for 7.
Ten have a heap of content that I’m has a strong following, but is unwilling to show on Ten for ratings reasons.

I’d worship Ten if they gave us a documentary/science channel but am not getting my hopes up. ABC 4 will definitely be a news channel, so not that hopefully. A movie channel, I hope not as I’m not really that into movies and they’d be better suited to a HD channel anyway. Youth channel, well isn’t that the main channel? General entertainment, seems like the safe but boring option. Another sport channel, I’d be disappointed but couldn’t care less. Lifestyle channel, meh. Lamp channel…I don’t know, could it be a hit?

Don’t have a problem with niche, I mean I only watch 2 shows on GO and about 2 on ABC2 and the occasional show on SBS 2. 7TWO with it’s dagging naame ain’t too bad but again only a handful of shows. It just means there’s probably something on every channel it you really try and don’t go in with preceived notions of “I hate… ” or “I love ….”.

geez bindi there is only one sports channel and many general channels but something still irks you with 1NE HD. It’s the HD part right.

at least you can enjoy something in the same way many enjoy one and not GO etc. without whining and bagging as you do each and every time.

if you can bare it, try recording the climbing specials in about 10 days, there’s three of them in a row – who knows it might fill in 1 hour of non Go,7TWO and see how us sport dummies live.

It will probably be another general entertainment channel like 7two and GO, I hope it will cater for all age groups rather than youth orientated. What will 11HD be used for?
7HD and 9HD should be used for movies and I here there will be ABC4 News, 7teen (Ch71) and Sky News Australia on FTA, can anyone clarify this?

Whatever genre the channel takes, there has to be at least a small percentage of programming allowed for some Australian classics. GO! plays old Amercian sitcoms, cartoons, drama’s, why can’t they show Australian classics also? An Oz retro night on Friday is a no brainer. Good on channel 7 for adding Home & Away classics to their 7TWO lineup, hopefully there will be more Australian classics to come. And if people say no one watches old shows, then why are shows such as Macyver, Magnum, Bewitched, I dream of Jeanie, Flintstones ect shown? People will watch Homicide, It’s A Knockout, Prisoner, Number 96, old games shows, Hey Hey repeats. It’s free to air, so people will love seeing these classics, as long you make it a special night of all Australian classics. Take what Rage has done every January on board for a model on how to do it. Start after the Friday movie and go all night with nostalgia, and just like the 1980s Gaytime commercial being shown earlier this year, advertisers would happily re-run classics commercials in the retro slot, TEN could even make money this way and still keep with the theme.

@patrick. I’d love to see some of these shows too, absolutely, but a lot of them are no longer kept (TV stations were notorious for trashing master copies of old shows or re-using the tapes for other programs to save buying more videotape) or not maintained in a format that can be played back now and there’s a big expense in converting them to be compatible with today’s equipment.

Plus as explained on this site the other day there are expenses in playing old Australian material such as obtaining copyright and paying royalties to performers, etc. WIN owns Crawford Productions now so that enables them access to that material but so many other programs are lost forever sadly.

I wish people would stop asking for classic/retro shows, they are dated and belong in another time, anyway isn’t that what foxtel is for.

Wow how predictable are the people on this site – I bet myself that the First comment here would be “No not another sports channel” and I was right.. get a life people – who cares what TEN does with their third channel as long as we get more choice and variety (and yes two sports channels equals more variety if thats what they chose to do)
