Trauma ends for NBC

NBC opts not to renew medical drama Trauma past 13 episodes. Plus more news on Chuck and Desperate Housewives.

traumaAs expected, NBC has decided not pursue its new medical drama Trauma.

The show will be discontinued at its original 13 episode order. That shouldn’t come as any revelation to the network which holds the rights in Australia, Seven.

But NBC did pick up six more episodes of Chuck which brings the show’s total third-season order to 19 episodes.

The network previously picked up full seasons of Community, Mercy and Parks and Recreation.

Meanwhile Marc Cherry has signed a new deal with ABC that could keep Desperate Housewives on air until 2013. He will remain exec producer for an eighth and ninth season but the show’s core cast members are so far only committed through to season 7.

Season Six will screen in Australia next year.

  1. I’m new to australia and would like to know what channel desperate housewives is shown on?? also does anyone have any idea when its going to start being shown again???

  2. The Desperate Housewives (Teri, Marcia, Eva, and Felicity, not sure about Dana) each earn $8 Million a season. I would guess a continuation past season 7 could cost ABC $12 Million a piece per season. It would need good ratings to justify that.

  3. Burt, I sincerely doubt the likes of Hatcher, Cross, Longoria and Huffman are paid less than 5 grand an episode! 100K each a year – I don’t think so for such a successful show.

i haven’t seen it but apparantly i don’t think i have head one positive thing about it.

Could you repeat that in English mate…

  5. All the main Desperate show female actors are signed on for 7 seasons. For ABC in the US to have them do an 8th and 9th, the actors would probably want 5 or 6 grand $US each an episode, so 2 more seasons would be hugely expensive.

  6. @Jack yes I know that but the number of eps before the winter games is not my point, I was saying shows like Chuck got a 13 ep season and now an extra 6 but will that be it? with they get another 3 eps to make the 22 and how do the show runners plan the SL for that. And if you’ve seen Chuck it has an underlining SL which has developed over 2 years and likely to continue this season.

@Simon – I think Chuck will be on 7TWO, if I’m not mistaken.

  7. Craig, NBC has the Olympics and can’t really fit in any more than an extra six episodes of Chuck, assuming it starts after the Christmas/New Year break.

  8. There’s no way Desperate Housewives has enough potential to last until 2013. Once the originals start leaving (besides Edie obviously), please end it.

  9. I hate how they are 6 eps to some shows and not the 9, how do they get a good story ark when they don’t know the total number of eps they have to play with.

So I guess Trauma is likely to pop-up on 7TWO at some point?

  10. i haven’t seen it but apparantly i don’t think i have head one positive thing about it.

i guess all the attention turns to the ABC now to see which one they cancel eastwick or the forgotten or both
