And the new Simpsons character is…..

By David Knox on November 20, 2009 / Filed Under News 14

sim52 year old hospital operations manager Peggy Black from Connecticut has won the viewer contest to create a new Simpsons character from more than 25,000 entries.

She came up with Ladies’ man ‘Ricardo Bomba,’ a handsome, smooth-talking South American nicknamed “La Bomba,” who works at the town’s nuclear power plant by day and by night, works Springfield’s singles scene.

“Rrrri-carrr-do Bomba,” Black said, extravagantly rolling the “R’s” in Spanish-language fashion. “He’s someone that all the women love and all the men want to be.”

Springfield needed “something like a Casanova,” she added.

In “Million Dollar Maybe,” to air in the US on January 31st, Homer is rushing to meet Marge for a date when he encounters Bomba. The episode had been mostly completed, with a spot reserved for the contest character.

According to executive producer Al Jean (pictured with Black), it’s possible Bomba could also appear again.

The ep also guest stars Chris Martin of Coldplay.

@Stewie – yes that would be true except in the US it’s one of FOX’s best-performing 18-49 shows. Not bad for twenty years.

And yes the show is nowhere the classic years but some of the recent eps have been quite good in terms of putting the ‘heart’ back into Simpsons. Even in the “Let’s make the show ultra-zany and Homer ultra-stupid”-years, the show IMO has always been funny.

I doubt this “La Bomba” will be making a second appearance tho.

Sounds more of a Bumblebee Man companion character, than a stand alone.

I’m tipping they’ll do a “Police Cops” on Bomba, transform him from ladies man, to even more bumbling sidekick to Bumblebee Man.

They obviously just picked a random winner, I read a few people’s entries and there were some genuinely funny ones.

I do find it funny that a Family Guy fan doesn’t know the meaning of the word ironic. As woeful as The Simpsons has become, it is and will always be infinitely superior to Family Guy.

Is Conan O’Brien back writing for The Simpson’s or something … I am sure he refers to the Trumpet Player in his Tonight Show Band as La Bomba and jokes about his moustache .

In the words of Lisa Simpson:
‘Adding a new character is often a desperate attempt to boost low ratings.’

How ironic one of TV’s greatest shows should have to sink so low.

In other words, the Simpsons has its own Quagmire now.

Exactly there was that guy Marge was dancing with in the early seasons. What a fail, epic epic fail.
